MotoMan

Recommended Posts

Here's another MOC I made in LDD.

MotoMan

MotoMan is a transforming robot with wheels, jet boosters, and foldable wings for speedy travel over land or air. I'm sure he would fare well in space too.

Note 1: LDD was quite finicky about some hinges, so I had to partly disassemble MotoMan in order to bend those hinges into a reasonable position.

Note 2: As with my previous LDD MOC posted here on EB, you may need to rename the file with an .lxf extension and save it as "All Files," otherwise it may save as a .zip folder.

 Thanks for Popular Science and Jake Loniak for the inspiration, and Superkalle for LEGO Universe Mode.

Enjoy! :classic:

Im not much of a fan of LDD but this moc is very cool Toa_Of_Justice!

I like how it transforms from a robot to vehicle.

Thank you, LegoGalactus! Actually, I intended the transformation to be primarily the other way around, but I suppose it doesn't matter all that much, since my model can go back and forth between the two modes.

I hate being so blunt, I really do, but I'm afraid this is not very good as far as transforming MOCs go.

The transformation is incredibly simplistic, it practically just falls flat on its face - I would hesitate to call it an actual transformation, in fact.

The limbs are equally primitive, and the whole thing is awkwardly proportioned with narrow shoulders and wide hips - and no waist, on top of that.

Also, in robot mode, the chest is, unfortunately, plain ugly; the underside of a 4x10 plate is not exactly high on aesthetics.

However, I do, in fact, like the head; not an overcomplicated design, but it looks pretty good nonetheless. The claw/tooth pieces are a nice little touch, they add a bit of unobtrusive detail to an otherwise fairly simple design. Functionality-wise though, it would have been better to put the socket part of the joint on the head, and the ball on the torso - in the current configuration, the robot can't look sideways.

I'm sorry if I sound harsh, but the MOC does need serious improvement - I would advise you to look at the following Transformer MOCs for inspiration and building tricks:

Actually, I consider the "transformation" to be a bonus feature--I originally intended my MOC to remain in its main "transport" form.

The limbs are equally primitive, and the whole thing is awkwardly proportioned with narrow shoulders and wide hips - and no waist, on top of that.

You're right, I should have added a waist. I might redo my MOC sometime with an articulated waist, but with my summer college term coming up very soon, that may have to wait.

Also, in robot mode, the chest is, unfortunately, plain ugly; the underside of a 4x10 plate is not exactly high on aesthetics.

:yoda: Aerodynamic, a flat surface is, in my opinion.

I'm glad you like the head. That was one of the most difficult parts of my model to design, next to the wing mounts.

Thanks for those links. :classic: If I ever get around to re-building MotoMan (or a similar MOC), I'll remember those MOCs.
