starstreak Posted December 13, 2009 This review will be on the 5982 Smash'n'Grab from the Space Police collection A quote from www.lego.com about the 5982 Smash'n'Grab. Priority one to all Space Police units in Galaxy City! Squidtron has just smashed into the Space Bank and stolen an asteroid ATM asteroid and all! It’s up to the Space Police commando to stop the space-crook before he gets away in his custom ram-raider vehicle, complete with dual firing plasma cannons, a spiked ramming grill and a heavy lifting crane for escaping with the loot!</FONT> Set Name: 5982 Smash'n'Grab Theme: Space Police Released: 2009 Pieces: 188 Price: $22.99/$15.60EURO/14.11GBP Here are some quicklinks Lego.com, Brickset, Bricklink Wanna see some pictures? Let's start with the normal box arts and manuals! Box art front I must say the box art for the Space Police sets are getting better. My son is a Space Police fan. I'm not, but this set caught my eye and I just had to buy it. Box art rear Again, nice picture. Shows the different things this set can do. Like having a asteroid ATM machine that opens, Two missiles that really shoot by the way of a ramming rod. Unlike the normal flick-fire missiles you see on some sets. The crane works. Instruction manual Nothing too special. Duplicate of the original box art. Part listing The parts page. The purple pieces I wasn't thrilled with until I built the unit. It's a nice purple. And the helmet looks neat. Not the normal smooth helmet. Bags of parts Only four bags for parts. Nothing numbered so you're gonna have to struggle. Lol. Sticker sheet Very small set. I think they could've made the set with a screened on button layout for the atm buttons than a sticker. The flame decals are neat. They work well in covering the ugly defects on the nacelles. It seems all colors of the nacelles have those circle "birthmarks" on them from where they detach it from the mold. Extra parts My extra parts. Hey I got a extra red visor. I see other people got a solid black one. Hmm this set uses a lot of fluorescent pieces. Build process First is the ATM. Finished. Interesting idea. I myself wouldn't put money in a ATM that is in an asteroid field. Btw, you get two 100 bills. They get deposited in the back door. Wow, I haven't seen those thrusters since I had the original Space sets from before the 80's. The roadster space mobile. Here is where you can see the shafts that would "hit" the flick-fire missiles to shoot it off. In case you're wondering this is the front grill laying flat. Looks like fangs. Flame stickers are now covering those ugly warps on the nacelles. I wish the flames lined up better. I mean it's straight, but you see the yellow angle line in the front? It's not matching the angle of the nacelle so I couldn't put it all the way forward. All done! The engines and the crane are all in place. I thought while I was building the engines, it could be ridden on because of those handle bars. But it's really just decorations. Finished photos Here you can see how the crane can hold the ATM. All joints are articulated for the crane. And the ATM seems to fit perfectly. Officer:"Don't tell me, your the ATM tech and you're just taking it back to the office.." I like the new helmet the Police is using. Even the orange visor is interesting. Front view of the vehicle. I pity him driving. With a flat head, it looks like grandma trying to see over the dashboard. Top front view. The stickers look good on it. Everything fits well. Only thing I don't like is why they put his tool and gun on the outside of the vehicle. Rear view without the ATM. Here you can see the polls used to hit the missiles that would shoot out in the front. I think the engines looks awesome. I think the side profile where you can see the technic part with the holes in it looks a bit out of place. Same with the external gun and tool holder. Side view. Looking good! It bulky. Looks like it could ram its way into a building if it needed to. Comments This was a good set. I don't normally buy Space Police but the color grew on me. The figures are good. The helmet and body armor is nice, and even the bad guy is designed well. My rating: Playability: 4/5. This set is very playable. It was made to be played with. Some stuff falls off easy but I think it's good for safety. Like the swords in the front grill. Design: 3/5. It's designed well, but I think the ATM looked like they couldn't think of what he could steal or haul away. Build experience: 5/5. Nothing hard. All perts fit together easy. Only thing is you might need help with the stickers if you want them on straight. Overall: 4/5. I think it's worth the money. If for parts or minifigs or just for the cool purple colors. It's fun to play with. My son will be getting one for Christmas. He doesn't know this yet. :) Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoyed it! Legostein Posted December 13, 2009 Hello! Great review with good photography. What I like about the many reviews here on these boards is that you also look at sets which you normally find less interesting. Personally I am no fan of the new Space Police series but with reviews like yours also me gets an impression of new pieces and colours. So, I just found out there's a new trans-yellow windscreen introduced which delights the classic Blackspace fan. Cheers, ~ Christopher

KurttKrueger Posted December 15, 2009 Excellent review there starstreak. I'm a big fan of the new Space Police line, as I grew up on the original. I love the new helmet and the nod to the original SPI sets with the red visor. Will be picking this one up for sure.
