I'm going to the Jedi Temple to start my training, I hope!

Hello dear community!

With this quote (topic title) from little Anakin in Episode 1, I'd like to show you

something different from what I usually post here. It's not a mini starship or

speeder, it's a building instead! :classic:

--------------------

Among the most impressive and famous buildings on Coruscant is the ancient

Jedi Temple dating back more than four millennia before the Battle of Yavin. The

shape is basically a ziggurat - a terraced step pyramid which could be found in

the ancient Mesopotamia on Earth.

One piece seems obvious to construct the Jedi Temple with bricks: The 75° 2x2x3

double convex slope (corner slope). They induce the size of the building:

jedi-temple-1.jpg

The real complicated part of this building is its socket. It stands on a sloped

socket. The correct angle would be realized by 1x1 slopes, studs not on top. A

gap of a half plate height is the result. By a rather weird bracket construction

you are finally able to close that gap (see detail photo):

All images of the Jedi Temple can be seen at BrickShelf, including instructions:

--------------------

Now, you know I like building small, very small. So the question occured if you

could even scale the Jedi Temple down more. It is possible!

jedi-temple-micro-1.jpg

You will say: "Hey you cheated! 2x2x2 double convex corner slopes don't exist!"

And you're right. I wish they existed. They would be such an enrichment for all

builders. However, the corners of the Jedi Micro Temple are not of this sort. And t

his not a normal 8x8 baseplate either - it's a grill plate! And now you'll most likely

know how it's been built. :classic:

All images of the Jedi Micro Temple can also be seen at BrickShelf, with instructions:

--------------------

... But those nice new corner slopes we still don't have and probably never will ...

That's my story for today! Have a great week, and see you soon!

Yours Christopher.

Wow, those are both awesome representations of the Jedi temple. I've always wanted to do micro building like this, but I don't have the right skill set (or piece set, for that matter) to do them. Using the giant TIE-wing connector piece is very clever!

Superb models, Legostein !

I also love your Eiffel Tower model.

You don't by any chance have a piece listing to go with the instructions, do you ?

Thanks !

Dr. D.

Very nice, I personally like the larger version because of the more detail, but they are both great.

Makes me want to make a larger version.

Hello again,

and thank you for the many nice comments! :classic:

Hopefully I can show you more soon. :classic:

drdavewatford, I can do a piece list. Just drop me a line, and I will send it to you.

Best greetings and thanks again!

Very nice.

There's a set of instructions in an issue of BrickJournal from earlier this year. They differ slightly to yours.

I have to say I prefer the one you made :)

Hello!

Thank you for even more nice praises! I highly appreciate all your comments!

I made these temples in light gray, as crucial parts are missing in tan. Furthermore it is not really clear if the temple is gray or tan. All images are in the sunlight, so everything appears more yellow than normal. :classic:

LEGOscum, um well err yeah, thank you! The guy who built the temple in BrickJournal and me, well, we're the same. The little gray one presented here is an improvement, as I could use lightsabres as towers now. But that grill plate in old light gray is very expensive.

Cheers,

~ Christopher

Looks very good. :thumbup::classic:

I think this is the best what we can get with the jedi temple, because it will be impossible to make a minifig sized temple.

Although a set with only the jedi high council already would be nice.

really fantastic creation, you got there...

I'm not too sure about the micro council tower because it looks a bit fat, but the mini version is really spot on in that scale...

the cleverness of some of your building techniques never ceases to amaze me...

Any other famous SW landmark planned next?

I'll add my voice to the chorus of praise!

I think it's a good thing that the Battle of Endor came with those 2x2x3 slopes in light bley - otherwise you'd be paying $5 a piece for the singular release of the part in light grey in one of the pirate sets (can't remember which offhand).

Very nice use of the 8x8 grill and that otherwise rather useless grey slopey thing

BTW, you should really consider entering the MCCV on Classic-Castle...

Thanks again all!

I have read about that castle contest. I would have some micro castles. :classic: Undortunately one is reserved for the next Brickjournal  and I think it would look odd if I just registered on ClassicCastle to enter the competition. It would lead to the impression that I didn't care about the community there at all and was only keen on the prizes. I will gladly show the micro castles in our castle forum, however. :sweet:

Cheers,

I'm not so sure about that - contests are an important form of publicity for forums, and encourage members to join. But it's your decision

Oh, and looking forward to that castle

Very good use of the "grillplate", you made a nice mini-MOC.

Looking forward to that castle too!

Oh, and enjoy that competition.

Extremely good MOC. It features original and innovative building techniques, as well as looking good.

Well done, and keep MOCing!

Hello,

and thanks again all. I will follow your advise and keep MOCing. But regarding architecture I will have to find some new object first, so I guess it's time for some miniaturized space craft from the Star Wars Universe. :classic:

Have a good time!
