Etzel Posted August 16, 2009 Fantastic work! Not only are all the buildings extremely well built with many details but it also depict a very interesting and important subject. I find it very brave to take on the challenge to build a scene that contains sensitive questions and present the final result in such great way! I really like the looks on the damaged houses, all those bullet holes, barricaded windows and the election(?) posters are great details. The use of the truck cover from the IJ set at the house under construction is pure win. Wow, I really got inspired from looking at your creation, I want to build something similar too now! PS. Etzel: Yes these are election posters For thoose who want a "background": The PPDK (Fr: Parti Pour la Démocratie au Kotonga; En: Party For Democracy in Kotonga) is a political party supposed to restore "true" democracy in ths african country. In fact, this is a "fake" party leaded by some Angolese insurgents refuged in Kotonga. The party did not win the elections and his supporters bacame violent. After some riots in the capital, the PPDK clamed his victory and decided to "retake" government by force. The well equiped national army soon crushed insurgents and pacified the capital. Some militia are still fighting in the South, but Angolese army decided to help Kotonga fighting resistance (which is, after all, their problem). This diorama represents a part of the capital just after the battle for the city, with troop patrolling. Little history of Kotonga: Kotonga is a former part of the Belgian Congo. Kotonga was a very unstable region because of cultural, linguistic and ethnic particularities of his inhabitants: the Mahimahis. When Congo became independant in 1960, the main Kotongese independentist movement, the MDLK (Democratic Movement for Freedom of Kotonga), demanded the independence of Kotonga. Fearing a civil war, the Belgian autorities decided to give independence to Kotonga. The young Congolese governement wanted to see this rich region come back into his country. After his coup, Mobutu decided to arm various military groups in Kotonga to destabilize the Kotongese governement, but failed. During the first Congo war Kotonga joined Laurent-Désiré Kabila's troops. Since the overthrow of Mobutu, the relationship between Kotonga and Congo are much better. Matn Posted August 20, 2009 This looks very good! I've seen it on Flickr, The Brothers Brick and BeLUG. But I've never taken my time to make a good comment on it. It's really great. I first thought it was an impressive post-apocalyptic scene, but when I looked better, I noticed it isn't sci-fi, it's the real world. It's very realistic. I love the use of the Indiana Jones KOTCS tents on one of your buildings. Also, the layout of this is nicely done; it is easily viewable in any direction while giving it a street-like appearance and feel. Way to start of with a bang! Lots of great details Also a very interesting theme for a MOC, there's not many Africa themed MOCs.
