Picked this set up at my local Toys R Us last night for $79.99 CAD.

I have done a review of it here. Fantastic set IMO. Enjoy the review!

Thanks for the review!

This looks like a nice set to have, especially considering the fact that the trailer is made out of many different parts instead of the one big piece Lego provided us with, in several trailers preceeding this one.

The only thing that seems a bit odd is that the truck-and-trailer and the escorting car have the same licenseplates....

Thanks for the review.

This is a good set, but not as good as the Vestas windmill. I also feel it's a bit expensive (€59,99).

One question. What's inside the turbine? Is it just piled bricks or is there empty space?

Thanks again! :sweet:

Thanks for the review! :classic:

Wait...so $80 CAD is around $70 USD. :look:

I don't really see why people like this set that much. In my opinion this set is much more different than the Vestas set (I looked at all of the instructions books, and it looks really good), and doesn't have a motor.

By the way, since this is an off-site review, it won't be indexed.

I agree, the Vesta's set is much better then this. However, we have to make the best of what is avail to us sometimes unless you want to pony up the 500$ USD + shipping for one.

The inside of the tower is empty except a 32 long technic axle. There are also blue 2 x 2 round bricks that the axle goes through for strength. These are attached to 4 x 4 round plates like we have seen in the beach house. I am attempting to motorize mine now and will update with pics when I get finished.

It is ok that this is not being indexed, I just noticed that it had not been reviewed so decided to share the set with as many people as I could.

Thanks for the review. I think it is a great set. On the other hand, I think it would have been nice to get a house instead of a truck (one more truck). The Vesta promo set was great for the house ( I think ) ... It is not like LEGO is running out of trucks or anything. :-) Anyways, I still think that this set is very original and I will probably buy it.

Thank you very much for that great review, Getsome! :classic:

I ordered my first exemplar (yes, I'll buy another one in late summer or fall) on Wednesday and already got it yesterday (with the gratiy chrome gold minifig key ring). So I built it up yesterday night.

I voted for

Outstanding

since this set is simply outstanding and imo not only one of the best City sets of this year but one of the best City sets ever!

Cons:

-no tools for the four boxes in the transporter

-wind power plant should be taller :cry_sad:

Pros:

-set to make "green" energy and to show how important this is and will be

-both cars include car doors

-transporter looks very realistic :oh:

-escort vehilce looks that lovely

-wind power plant looks awesome :oh:

Of course this wind power plant can't be compared to the Vestas one since the Vestas one was much taller, included that lovely hill with the bench and the foliage plants, the service vehicle and the lovely cottage with the sun terrace.

But we should get away from always only comparing 7747 with 4999 since these two sets are totally different: In 4999 the main focus is (since it is a promo set for the Vestas company and first of all not a set for FOLs) on the wind power plant and on the cottage - in 7747 the main focus is on the tthe transporter and on the servie vehicle (since it is a set mainly designed for kids).

The transporter and the service vehicle are perfectly designed and can imo be used in all our Lego Cities (TLG even didn't forget to include car doors in both vehicles!). The wind power plant isn't very tall - but it is even not tiny. When you put it somewhere on your layout where there aren't that big houses (e. g. next to a field and the new farm - where it would btw fit the best anyway) then it even doesn't look that small. And what concerns the lovely cottage in 4999: Since TLG asked their fans for input for new City sets last year and since one of the most demanded sets was a family house I bet that TLG will offer some family houses to us next year or in 2011. :classic:

To put it in a nutshell: Imo TLG did a great job with this set since it combines playability (which is mainly important for JFOLs and therefore even for the success of this set) and a "green" power plant (which is supposably more interesting for AFOLs). And I'm very, very glad that TLG offers us the opportunity to get this outstanding set since I can't afford the Vestas set! Thank you very much, TLG!

More "green" sets and more outstanding City sets in general on!

Wait...so $80 CAD is around $70 USD. :look:

or $60 USD. Because the Gallardo is $80 CAD and $60 USD

The price of 60 Euros/Dollars is imo justified since this is an awesome set!

And when you compare 7747 to last year's CG Platform (for which the regular price was 70 Euros for nearly nothing) then it's more than ever justified.

Of course 70 would be too expensive - but it isn't 70 Euros/Dollars (until now).

I think this set is too expensive for the fun you get. Maybe I'm spoiled with the vestasset, but this one is very tiny small. For the windmill, this set is a big loser. However the truck is nice, nothing more. The little yellow car is the reason why it didn't get the vote poor. I like that one :classic: .

I voted 4, although I'm not very interested in this set.

Everything is done quite nicely, perhaps only the trailer gives me some doubts by having only a set of wheels... would it realistically hold all the weight of the turbine shaft? I think I'd feel safer if it had a second set of wheels on the front. I also think the set would be slightly better with a truck engine the same shape as the helicopter transport, which looks more powerful for a heavy cargo.

In any case, the model overall is certainly very original!

Awesome, Awesome, Awesome. I can't wait to get this set... And along with others I'm waiting to see how it's going to spin.. Anxiously waiting to see if power functions can be incorporated.

Greetings! :classic:

Very nice review and nice pictures too! I have to say that this is a pretty good public offering for lego fans. I have considered picking up a set to go with the vestas one to start up a windfarm so my town can be semi-green

Blast LEGO and their beautiful semi trucks. They are always so expensive, but I NEED all of these semi trucks. They are so fun and big and well designed. Unfortunately big also means long and I am really running out of road for all of my big trucks. Guess I need a truck yard because I have to have this truck.

Thanks for the review. Looks good.

Very much to my surprise this set was available at the local Toysrus! I was under the impression that this set was not going to be made available in the United States according to the Lego website. So without hesitation, my girlfriend and I purchased the set. I'm going to motorize the kit.

Are you guys kidding? This set is Fan-bloody-tastic.

Just cause the wind turbine isn't as big as the Vesta's one doesn't make it worse. Chuck a minifig next to it and it looks plenty big. If it's not tall enough just add 2 more rows of white cylinders.

The truck is one of my favourite of recent times. It incorporates an important element that has been missing from a lot of city vehicles lately. Opening doors. It has a superb design with the 4 tool boxes and exhaust stacks, and the extendable multipurpose trailer has no competiion whatsoever. The support car is excllent in it's own class (again with opening doors) and I picked up my set for $50Au from Big W which I thought was an absolute bargain. If there'd been more than 1 on the shelf I reckon I would have bought at least 4.

I gotta vote "outstanding" for this. I'm thinking a 9v micromotor in the windmill as a next step. Either that or 3 windmills on a hill with a single motor running the lot via the long axle up the centre.

Great set IMO. Truck is really good. Like it very much.

I just miss the crane for turbine.

I really like the set, but €60 is a bit overpriced in my opinion...

Yeah I think the same. Would like to get two or three turbines only, no need for the transport...

Very nice set, maybe a bit overprices, but the combination of truck, windmill and car makes up a lot.

I will be waiting for the time when the set goes into sail for a lot less to buy some more.

I agree on the pricing. The orange helicopter transport (7686) was a much better deal for a truck and trailer. But then again: most people will buy it for the wind turbine.
