No it's not possible to animate anything, you can only construct in their software. Its easier and looks so much better than mlcad and ldd which is quite outdated though. Besides, SR3D Builder had quite a few bugs that never got fixed. I tried using it long after support ended, but it was just a pain

The product is Stud.io and I believe animation is in the pipeline.

So regret that Sergio was pass away. 
I saw some  of his videos in youtube, and his software simulate lego set are so awesome.
Wish some of developers can continue his work.
