Pirate Figures and Set Names

Recommended Posts

I heard the german audio dramas in the last days a few times and there is also a handler who's called McMoney (I think he isn't listed here, is he?).

The name of Will's father is William Gordon Frederick Carvendish. They found a treasure map with his full name in part 5 of the audi dramas "The secret of La Sceletta" (in german: Das Geheimnis von La Sceletta).

Awesome work Runamuck, this is very good reference material.

I'm pretty sure Runamuck is aware of them, as he transcripted and translated quite a lot of LEGO audio dramas, including those.

I’m not surprised that it’s an exhausting read. I wrote it up in Word and with all the pictures included its more than 150 pages long. The document actually became so heavy due to the pictures that I had to split it up.

Thanks for the suggestion TSONE, but they are already listed in post #90 under “Pirates and citizens of the Forbidden Island”. As Jamesster mentioned I have actually worked quite a bit with German audio dramas. The thread about the Pirates related audio dramas is here: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=76762

Oh, I'm sorry, I tried to read all, but I was to thumb to read this.

Is this post so idiotic like my first one? Hit my face with a bottle if it is, please.

Bootsman Wil

http://www.brickfact...990/003/020.jpg

Pirate who is shown in a Dutch catalog. He is Captain Roger’s right hand man aboard the Black Seas Barracuda.

Since the catalog actually refers to characters exclusive from “The Golden Medallion” comic, such as Captain Foul, it could be possible that this was actually supposed to be bo’ sun Will Cavendish, and they accidentally put the wrong picture next to the text.

I think this character is Bo'Sun Will. If I'm right, Bo'Sun means boatswain and that's "Bootsmann" in german and dutch. Maybe they made a mistake and printed the wrong head or he is much older and got a mustache. ^^

One last note: I'm not sure, but I would'nt say the shipwright's name is Neal, I just know the name Neil which sounds exactly like Neal, so I would spell him as this.

No need to be so hard on yourself, I could easily have made an editing error while posting it and have lost something, so I don’t mind.

Well, I have already made a note about it under the character, that Bootsman Wil might be Bo ’sun Will. In general the whole situation about who Bo ‘sun Will is supposed to be is kind of messy. We have several name variations across different languages and also various figures associated with the name, even within the same language at times. I went with the option of listing them as separate individuals just to be safe, even if it could be speculated that they are supposed to be the same individual.

Good point about Neal/Neil. I’ll ad a note about it under the character, but I’ll probably keep Neal as the main name because many of the characters in the audio dramas do have quite English sounding names.

LEGO Minifigures Online introduces new named pirates characters, and the new game trailer and website released today shows two of them; Captain Pete (the good guy) and Captain Dreadleg (the bad guy, similar to Brickbeard but a ghost):

http://www.playminifigures.com/en/node/155

(about two minutes in)

There's new locations as well, forgot which ones it mentioned specifically so I'm not sure what's public now and what's still under the beta NDA.

http://www.lego.com/en-us/pirates/characters

Only one new named character so far, Governor Hacienda. The captain is indeed Redbeard, and while Rummy's name isn't given directly, it's in the file names for his pictures:

http://cache.lego.com/r/www/r/pirates/-/media/franchises/pirates%202014/characters/mugshot/mugshot_pirate_rummy.png?l.r=1723381808

http://cache.lego.com/r/www/r/pirates/-/media/franchises/pirates%202014/characters/beauty%20shots/pirate_rummy_beauty.jpg?l.r=930048681

The website seems a bit sloppy... Redbeard is just called "Pirate Captain" on the main characters page, but called by name everywhere else. As said, Rummy's name isn't given anywhere except the image file names. And Governor Hacienda's name isn't given on the main page or even his own bio, it's just mentioned in the bios for other characters. I'd bet that there's more names for these characters that the website is missing, hopefully we'll get them from other sources like magazines...

The Bluecoat Sergant #2's bio states that "years ago, the sergant sailed the Seven Seas as part of a pirate crew, but he has now he turned lawful". Interesting character bit...and also his head was used for several of the 2009 pirates. Was he a part of Brickbeard's crew? pirate_laugh2.gif

Thanks for posting, thats for me one of the interesting posts about my beloved pirates ever. I am glad to see a new Governor Name. I am a bit sad that Will is not called will^^

Uh, new characters! Nice!

It is nice to hear that the governor is a new one. It’s probably easier to portray Governor Hacienda as a heroic figure rather than that old crook Governor Broadside, even if the profile make him sound quite greedy.

It’s not surprising that the new captain is the old Captain Redbeard, despite the brown beard. I guess Will has been demoted from Bo ‘sun to cabin boy if the set description is anything to go by.

So the Sergent used to be a pirate? Maybe Salty the sailor got a promotion after switching to the bluecoats?

I have my doubts that the new Rummy is supposed to be the same as the old one, the looks are rather different, the personality and the occupation doesn’t match, and the eye patch is over the wrong eye. Nice catch though, Jamesster.

I have also found some new things on my own; partially thanks to a book I got for Christmas.

Crikey the Kraken (LEGO Minifigures Online)

Løjtnant Streng (LEGO Minifigurer år for år en visuel historie)

http://brickset.com/minifigs/pi064/Imperial-Soldier-Harbor-Sentry

And some additional notes to things I posted earlier.

Corrections and additions:

Bo’sun Will Cavendish

French name: Bill (Les pirates le médaillon d’or)

First mate Rummy

French name: La barrique (The barrel)

6235 Will and Bill are probably the same person

Spinoza and Filou are the same monkey

Camilla

French name: Camille

Culverin

French name: Hippolyte

Captain foul

French name: Faucheton?

Dark-Eyed Kate

Danish name: Mørkøjede Kate

Captain Ironhook

Danish name: Kaptajn Jernklo

Captain Roger

Danish name: Kaptajn Rødskæg (LEGO Minifigurer år for år en visuel historie)

Admiral Valentina

Admiral Valentina is most likely the commanding figure of the new Imperial Flagship, as LEGO Minifigurer år for år en visuel historie mentions that the figure is an admiral. Also, the female passenger on the ship is apparently the governors daughter according to the book.

Does anyone know where I might be able to find a scan of the French version of the old The Golden Medallion pirate comic?

Please add if not mentioned before the some german names:

Will = Willi

Rummy= Rumpott (Barrel of Rum)

Captain Foul= Kapitän Baddog

May you post a link for the book, it seems to be very interesting for me?

Here you can see some pages of the searched french comic. May ask the poster, he could give it may to you.

Thanks Jamesster for the info.

Obviously, the new captain is, in fact, old Captain Roger/Redbeard, in a new design, and that guy is Rummy:

http://cache.lego.com/r/www/r/pirates/-/media/franchises/pirates%202014/characters/mugshot/mugshot_pirate_rummy.png?l.r=1723381808

http://cache.lego.com/r/www/r/pirates/-/media/franchises/pirates%202014/characters/beauty%20shots/pirate_rummy_beauty.jpg?l.r=930048681

Both 1989 and 2015 versions have brown tricorne, patch in an eye, grey trousers and the same jacket (even it is blue in the old Rummy and green in the new)

So I guess that guy is Will:

and that guy is Flashfork:

I shoud add that after seeing the pics of these minifigs, my appreciation for them and their classic look is as high as ever. Im also glad to see more diversity among the figs as well, especially the Imperials. Interesting that we got a new governor but the same pirate captain. Though its even stranger that Redbeard doesnt even have a red beard!

I dont think Sergeant #2s head ever appeared in Pirates. I know it appeared in some 2013 Castle sets, but I think it was introduced as Josh Thunder in Dino 2012: http://lego.wikia.co...ki/Josh_Thunder

Hmm, you are quite right. I was thinking of this guy, one of my favorites from the 2009 theme. The heads are quite similar in many ways, but definitely not the same. So no connection there. May be for the best if this turns out to be another "prequel" to the original pirate theme.

I know there is a thread with names... But I can't find it.

I went to my favourite toy store today and looked at old catalogues. I noticed that the pirate sets in Sweden had quite different names compared to the English names:

Black Seas Barracuda = Tigerhajen (The Tiger Shark)

Skull's Eye Schooner = Tigerhajen II

Eldorado Fortress = Fort Brass

Imperial Trading Post = Port Piraya

Saber Island = Fort Lillön (Fort Little-Island)

Caribbean Clipper = Havsörnen (The Sea Eagle)

Imperial Flagship = Sjölejonet (The Sea Lion)

Renegade Runner = Piratskeppet Kaparen

Gouvernor Broadside = Guvernör Bredsida

Admiral Woodhouse = Amiral Ruff

Captain Roger = Kapten Roger

Does anyone know if these are based on for example the German or British names? And does anyone know more names of the figures?

(Please merge this with the old topic if possible)

The german names where very simple and uninspired. The names from the audio-dramas are not the same like the names from the catalouges. Nothings seems to be near to the svedisch names.

Black Seas Barracuda = Tigerhajen (The Tiger Shark) = Piratenbrigantine

Skull's Eye Schooner = Tigerhajen II = Piratendreimastbarg

Eldorado Fortress = Fort Brass = Gouverneurskastel

Imperial Trading Post = Port Piraya = Historischer Freihafen

Saber Island = Fort Lillön (Fort Little-Island) = Gouverneurs Vorposten

Caribbean Clipper = Havsörnen (The Sea Eagle) = Gouverneurskogge

Imperial Flagship = Sjölejonet (The Sea Lion) = Admiralskaravelle

Renegade Runner = Piratskeppet Kaparen = Einmastpiratensegler

Gouvernor Broadside = Guvernör Bredsida = Gouverneur Breitseit

Admiral Woodhouse = Amiral Ruff =?

Captain Roger = Kapten Roger = Kapitän Roger

Thanks! It seems no one has mentioned the Swedish names yet. :) I see now that the Swedish names are similar to some other European ones. The American names are still the best ones for some reason. They all have alliteration!

Btw... A funny thing about the Swedish name for Eldorado Fortress (Fort Brass) is that 'brass' is outdated slang for weed.

But I think that the old thread that you were thinking of could be this one:

http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=50788

Actually it's this one, you can find some interesting information about set names in different languages there.

Merged these two with this topic, and updated the Long Standing Topic Index with the name of this topic.

What's in a name... was too vague.
