Canadian Eh?

Sales tax is 6.25% in Massasschusetts (used to be 5% when I lived there). LEGO pricing appears to 20%-30% less than Canadian pricing. There are 3 LEGO stores plus a LDC down there if I recall. You'll have to do the exchange rate conversion math and see how it turn out compared to buying in your province. I got my sister to buy 8258 for me and she didn't have to pay duty. Your mileage may vary.

Thanks that helped. If I do buy Lego, it would be either the UCS Slave I or the UCS Tumbler so it won't matter too much. Also lack of transportation so I'd buy online.

TRU is having a sale on some superhero sets and Hobbit sets, in store and online. They also had a fair number of the Elves sets, which were on the shelves near the Friends.

Mastermind Toys has the new Ninjago, Pirates, Elves and City sets for 2015. If anyone (besides those I already know *cough*torolug*cough*) swings by the yonge near Lawrence location, keep an eye out for me on the job! I'd love to meet up with a fellow eurobricks member!

Weird, because website still says "Available Soon". I'm thinking it is just a mistake and they'll likely correct it before they put out their stocks, otherwise 12.5% off a newly released set would be pretty decent.

I'm still seeing the occasional Lego set at Target in the jumbled mess. Saw some large Chima sets and the Turtles Lair Invasion. They were marked 30% off last week. Just be careful if you find any while paying- I asked for the original price of should be a $24 city set - I was told it was $40 (The discount price was higher than it's MRSP!)

I have being buying new sets in Toys R US with the CineplexHoliday coupon since it is $10 off $40 for sets below $129.99 I think. If you get say a $40 set it is basically 20% off a brand a new set

Ran by the store in Surrey today to see what the pick a brick looks like now. About two rows are gone to make way for the models and with the bottom row full of 2x6 (or 2x8s?) there wasn't a very good selection left. At least they still had a few 1x2s that I could use. Plus they now have cups on the wall and on the counter behind the cashiers, taking 4 spots where bins used to be. My sister spotted the last few cats and seagulls in the minifig bin.

They did have some Easter sets and Tower of Orthanc, though. I forgot to see if they had any Pet Shops.

I was really disappointed when I saw what they did to the Pick a Brick in Calgary. Decreased selection size due to their new overpriced "Build a Model" and less opportunity for weird things like horses to show up in the bins. The bin the had filled with random pieces from old sets also appeared to be missing and will be sorely missed.

In the last 3 months I've hit Pick a Brick in three Toronto locations and one in Troy Michigan.

In all three Toronto location it was a struggle (I did them on the same night) to stay under 3 large cups.

In the Michigan store it was a challenge to fill one large cup. The wall was full but mainly of crap that I didn't want especially the colour selection. The only saving grace was using VIP points obtained in Cdn $$ and then applying them to purchases in American dollars.

I was kind of hoping the 'Build a Model' wouldn't make it way to Canada. With only 60 slots for PAB at the two BC locations, the Build a Models are going to take away so many possible better bricks. I'm not sure if it will be even worth it to stop by the store anymore, on the rare occasions that I'm in Vancouver.

The only saving grace was using VIP points obtained in Cdn $$ and then applying them to purchases in American dollars.

I wasn't aware we could do that. Good to know.

So, Western Canada is finally getting a brick convention: BrickCan in Richmond, BC, April 21 - 24, 2016.

Is this the first brick convention being held at a casino? ;)

Very interesting and 4 days?! I was just mentioning to my sister BrickCon in Seattle in Oct and wondering how many locals (Vancouverites) go to that.

Who are the organizers? The website don't seem to have much info yet. Do you have to be 21 and over to attend due to the casino?

BrickCan seems like a fun name. I can think of a bunch of going to the can MOCs for it.

It seems to say that the Saturday & Sunday are for "Families and LEGO Fans of all ages" and "Adult LEGO fans - Plan to attend all four days" so presumably the space would have to be all-ages.

TRU is having a 20% off sale on all Classic and City sets this week, at least here in Ottawa.

Picked up the Medium Brick Box and Racing Bike Transporter (60084) yesterday.

Thought it might be useful info for some :)

I have been to several BrickCons (coming from Victoria) and have met lots of Vancouver-area AFOLs down there. The organizers have, I have been told, been working very closely with Wayne and the BrickCon team who very much support this event.

Who are the organizers? The website don't seem to have much info yet.

I do not know the whole list but I do know a few of the people involved including Robin (LCP), Mary (longtime uber-volunteer for BrickCon) and John (long-time ambassador). They regularly come over to Victoria and have been keeping VicLUG in the loop.

Best Buy has a few interesting sets on sale right now - some of the Elves sets are about 20% off - didn't expect to see them on sale so soon.
