Aliencat's Modular Buildings

I have to say I really love the modular buildings Lego has released, Café Corner, Green Grocer and Market street. Not only are they great sets, they also present another step in the direction of making a whole theme targeted at AFOLs.

The modular system is great, finally a system everyone can follow to join together and make huge busy street layouts. And if you want to rearrange your houses, no problem, just put them in a different order. If you want to rebuild one, you can just take it out without affecting the rest. I love the system so I gave it a try and built some MOCs following what the AFOL world calls the Café Corner modular standard:

Jobasha's Odd Books

bookstore1.jpg

Brickshelf folder

Jobasha's Odd Books is a bookstore specialised in ancient scripts and accounts on the occult and anything science cannot explain. In recent years it has turned from just a bookstore into a place of discussion where many people meet to conjure up explanations for strange events.

If you have something you can't explain, Jobasha's Odd Books is a good place to go for advice, not only does Jobasha the Cat know a lot, most of his frequent customers can explain a thing or two as well.

Bistro Le Pont

Or the Bistro next door, as Jobasha calls it. His little apartment above the bookstore lacks a kitchen so this is where he eats, but if there's anything he can't stand it's a rude waiter!

Harry's Hardware

harry1.jpg

Brickshelf folder

Harry sells anything you need to build, repair, fix, or demolish. And if he doesn't have it, he'll find it for you!

I took this one with me to the Classic Castle meet in Billund last may, where we found an inventive new use for the roof: a battle arena!

Town Hall

cityhall2.jpg

Brickshelf folder

This is an old gothic town hall as seen in many old cities. It's 48 studs wide so quite a bit bigger than Café Corner and Green Grocer and them to make it stand out as an important building in a street scene.

I'll be making many more of these, because I really love this modular system!

Aliencat, your modular buildings are superb. I love it very much. They are great stuff. Will it be possible to arrange all modular buildings together on street. I am sure it will look very impressive. The Town Hall's gothic looks, is certainly very incredible. Thanks for sharing.

I will be looking forward to more of your such creations. :classic:

Thanks for the compliments :)

Unfortunately I can't set them all up in a row because I don't have them all in one piece at the same time.

Right now the only one in one piece is Jobasha's Odd Books, which was modified to fit into this MOC. I have to keep that one in one piece until after Legoworld, and then I'll see how many (NEW!) modular buildings I can make at the same time to make a streetscene or even a cityblock (with four corner modules and a couple of straight ones to make it square with a little park/community garden in the middle maybe :D)

I love the shape of Harry's Hardware store. Kudos for originality, it's not often you see unusual shapes in town MOCs. The town hall is great as well the use of different coloured bricks really helps the building look old and weathered. Fantastic work.

Amazing works, really.

I specially like the Harry's Hardware (very well designed and with a nice color combination) and of course I  the gothic Town Hall!

Beautiful stuff my friend, you are very talented. It never ceases to amaze me when I see the talent on this board! I think if everyone pooled their resources and imaginations together, we could give TLG a run for their money!

Beautiful stuff you have there. I especially like the open detailing on the bistro. Great use of roof and courtyard space. Your use of arches and brown textures on the bookstore is quite an original combination. The hardware store has just enough unique angles to keep it from being just another rectangular building, and I don't even know where to begin with the town hall. Fantastic!

These are just fantastic! I'm crossing my fingers that you'll get the necessary bits and pieces needed so you can have them built all at once. I love the hardware store, because of the odd-angled walls, and that it isn't a "classic" corner building.

Great work!

That's for sure! Maybe an idea for a future building contest? Modular houses!

I've built some new modular buildings, called Bob's Grease Pit and the Amsterdam Eyecandy Shop.

^ those folders are public now, but here's still some deeplinks:

The two new buildings next to eachother.

Bob's Grease Pit.

AFOL playing with his new Mindstorms NXT.

Buy eyecandy here.

My room.

The back door, this side is to be coupled to the next building, creating a passage under the arches to the back of the building, as seen here.

More modular buildings coming soon!

Thanks for viewing! :)

These are some amazing buildings, Aliencat! I especially love the marbled brick pattern on the Town hall.

Man, it's been really awesome seeing so many AFOLS making additions to go with the official modular sets. TLC definitely has a hit on their hands, and it's one of their best inovations yet.

I couldn't agree more. I love the whole modular buildings series, and I love making MOCs for it. I also really enjoy seeing all the other modular building MOCs out there.

Again, these buildings are fantastic. It's that simple.

The brown building, Amsterdam Eyecandy Shop, is my favourite of these two, mostly because of the innovative walkway, but also because it's an innovative solution to corner buildings. There's plenty of corner buildings out there using the diagonal wall technique, so much that it's starting to get a bore. So this is a refreshing change.

Thanks Freddie, I wanted to go for something different :)

Here's a render a fellow Lowlugger Dryw Filtiarn made of my MLCad model of the building:

Update: Sorry the links weren't working, I moved stuff around on my brickshelf to rearrange things a bit so of course the URLs changed. I edited all the links and they should all work again :)

awesome modular buildings.

i like them all especially the city hall.

great color scheme.

did you design them manually or by CAD?

how much time you take to design them?

you must be have many LEGO parts to complete all the buildings.
