Review: 4768 Harry Potter - Durmstrang Ship - Picture

Recommended Posts

Hey Gang,

Finally got home and pulled out the parts to take some pics.

Haven't started the build yet (suffering through lack of sleep and food) but here's some pics for your delectation.

http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Quincy/S...768/4768box.jpg

The Fantastic Mingfigs

Krakoff's face is great!! The strange thing is, for the first time I can remember the Minifigs came decapitated, and there's no neckwear.

The Chubby Hull

Suprised at how wide this is, can be split in two. Not like pirates with bricks, it has connectors built in. So no making it longer!!!

The Balcony

Attention all castle builders, it may be bley but it looks great. Just wait for the Minas Tirith MOCs.

And last but by no means least.

The Black Falcon Shield

Here's a close up for all you cats.

The full gallery pending moderation is here.

Full review with pics of the finished model tommorow, plus my review!

Matt

P.S: Here's the comparison of movie Victor Krum and Lego Victor Krum.

Whoa! Nice big pictures! Sadly, on my 15" laptop screen, there's a lot of scrolling involved. (However, it is a good thing that I have DSL, or the pictures might take forever to load!) If it is not an inconvience, could you resize the pictures? I'm sure some of our dial-up users might appreciate it too. ;)

What about the other sheild? I haven't gotten a good look at it yet. Please tell me it isn't a sticker. Also, please tell me it is cool. Are there two sheilds on each side of the ship, or two total?

Two reasons for me not to get this set:

- peach figs

- figs would be the ONLY pro reason here, and they are not worth the expense of a WHOLE ship...

well...the faces ARE nifty though. Now if only they came in yellow and in a smaller set...

Nice review, but the pics may be too big for some...for me at least.

See you on the boards,

Cutty

Sorry for the big pics.

The review ones will be smaller!!!

Anyway, haven't made the set yet (as I want to wait till my Girlfriend is home so we can make it together).

But to wet you appetite here's a size comparrison of the hull to a normal pirates hull.

The strange thing is, for the first time I can remember the Minifigs came decapitated, and there's no neckwear.

I recall Jake saying something about it being new LEGO policy to supply the minifig heads and torsos separately.

What with the expenses-trimming and all, it's apparently one of the many little quirky things they've discovered in the manufacturing and packaging process that people have done for years without thinking (in this case, putting the heads on the torsos) but that turns out to be a surprisingly significant expense (timewise, I suppose).

Think it was in one of his blog posts, but not sure. Too tired (ie, lazy) to go hunting for it now, sorry >-|

But does this mean that they add to the piece count?

Is it a super secret clever way to make the piece count seem bigger than it is?

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM |:|

Addition

I've built it, review up later tonite but here's this to wet your appetite.

It's a shame it only comes with two figs. It would be great for my ancient Middle-East project.

MattZitron, you have done well to display images of the Dung Stain hull...

Its a darn shame that it can't be extended. However, I see no reason why LEGO couldn't produce a special middle hull piece that is compatible. Although the way they've made the hull is a bit stupid. The old system was a lot more flexible.

Better still why can't LEGO design a hull that can be extended in length and width... Then they could be as made as long or wide as desired and that would be great!

If you ever get a moment, I'd love some pics of that. I've been tooling around with something along those lines in my ever expanding fantasy setting.

WooHoo!!! Thanks for these pics. I'm probably more excited about the dark red 1x4 arch than anything else. I have a large project that I'm doing in dark red, but there has only been the 1x6 arch made in that color....until now!

Now to figure out how to score about a hundred of them :/

Right so here's my review (FINALLY).

The whole Gallery of box, parts, minifigs and finished model is here, over 2 pages.

So on with the Show.

Minifigs

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery....y.cgi?i=1340864

In the set you get Krakaroff (I dunno how to spell it) and Victor Krum. The figs are exactly the same, bar their heads. These are two fantastic figures, the expression on Krakaroff's face is priceless. Judging by the design I think we might get a Yellow Krakaroff cropping up somewhere, which would make me a happy bunny (he'd make a fantastic Viking) Ideally I'd have liked more than 2 figures for my money, three would have done it, I think 2 is too few.

[burns]Excellent...[/burns]

I love those parts shots, great stuff in there! This really is a good sign for the new line, hopefully there'll be the same level of usefulness in the others. Thanks for taking the time to finish it up!

Did you scan the back of the instructions?
