Captain Lysandre Bernadotte in the streets of Qasr Abbad, symbolically crushing a scorpion in the aftermath of the quelling of the bloody Maimakterion Uprising.

A peculiar branch of Oléonder art is the so-called Guelphian exotic style. As its name indicates, this art style features its subjects in exotic dress in mostly Guelphian settings. Often these artworks focus on the exotic life in Oléon's oldest overseas province, with subjects ranging from trade in spices or colorful clothwork to bacchanalia at the lush courts and sensual odalisques.

Often, the portraits are commissioned by benefactors of the arts wishing to parade with their cosmopolitan senses and well-traveled life, having spent a period abroad in Guelph to indulge in life there.

However, others are simple memorabilia of events that have occurred. Such is the case with 'Captain Lysandre Bernadotte in the streets of Qasr Abbad'. Commissioned by the captain's family, it commemorates Lyandre's part in the quelling of the bloody Maimakterion Uprising in southern Guelph. This is symbolized by his crushing of a scorpion underneath his boot. Despite being a military man, Lysandre is nevertheless portrayed in Guelphian dress instead of uniform, for further exoticness - which will surely impress any visitor of the Bernadotte's estate.

I was doubting for a very long time which character to pick for the challenge. I was playing with the idea for a new character and came up with several new ones, but I also didn't want to discard the current one yet. I feel like I've only hit my stride with Lysandre and I still have plenty to tell, so there you have it: Lysandre will remain my main character as of yet.

I'm curious to see what the new rules will bring. Perhaps I might still discard him in the future, if I feel another character would fit the game mechanics better.

I wanted to expand upon Lysandre's Guelphian back story, plus I like Lord Byron's Greek painting and the orientalist movement, so I knew I wanted to build something along those lines.

Here's the BTS (different figure with Lysandre in military dress, but the backdrop is the same) :

I find the reflections cast by the light through those headlight bricks strangely intriguing. :pir-look:  :pir_laugh2:  A really nice shot with great color composition, the blue makes the figure pop while the white and red tie into other parts of the photo, brilliant.

A good decision to choose Captain Lysander Bernadotte as the main character! I like his clothes and the oriental background.

What I didn't notice until now is that the eyes are green and white. Is it Lloyd Garmadon's head?

I didn't even notice the reflections of the headlight bricks before you mentioned it . I made the pictures and then I thought "I should've put some black paper behind it", but I also wanted it to feel "sunny" or "well lit" so I didn't make new ones.

Thanks for the comment. Glad you like it!

Yes, indeed it is. I chose that head because of the green ones which stand out from the usual black ones. And also because there are different versions of the head available, with different expressions, which is pretty useful.

Lovely. Hope you entered it into the Summer Joust's Arabic category as well.

Thanks! No, didn't enter it into the Summer Joust. To be honest, it didn't cross my mind. I doubt it'd gain much traction as it's basically more of an "glorified backdrop" than an actual full-blown MOC as most entries are. Maybe next year!

I know I am late, but this is beautiful.

Thanks! The Lego scorpion is certainly huge compared to a figure . Maybe the artist took some artistic liberties to make it more heroic.

Glad you like it!

Slowly coming back to answer the newest topics... I love this entry, and it is amazing how you created a full diorama just as a "frame" for your entry! The choice of the "Oriental-style" (or rather Southern-style, given our geography) portrait is very original and really appropriate for the time frame! I also love the setting, with the half-said story about the desert uprising, leaving much to the readers' imagination!

Thanks! More (exotic) figures would've probably added even more to the "orientalist" atmosphere, but then it'd detract attention from the main character.

The half-said story is a loose frame I have in mind, that I will reference further in the future or maybe come back to in a larger manner.
