twindexx emu

Hey guys, after a long time of not posting anything due to lack of time (college), i present to you the twindexx emu passenger train. these are widely used in germany and are the successors to the locomotive pulled double decker regional trains.

they accelerate very fast, are quiet and nice and bright inside, all things the old ones are not. i use these daily to get to college, and no one else has done a model of the emu variant, there is a bluebricks one of the locomotive pulled intercity version but that doesnt look that good tbh, and isnt the emu version.

at first i made a model of the middle car, because it was easier to go from middle to end car than to do the reverse, the design is inspired by @HoMas regionalexpress, and by the bluebrixx one for the top part, but with my own ideas sprinkled in.

and this is the finished version, the front wasnt easy to get right, its very round, and organic, and thats not very easy to get right in lego

this is the front in more detail, the window is just held in by the other parts, its not attached to the model, neither are the reverse parts of the headlights.

Hope you like this model!

Great work creating the latest DB EMU in bricks. Going from requiring a locomotive to push or pull to having the entire trainset be the motive source is progress. Thanks for sharing your latest creation.

Nicely done especially in 6-wide (I think?). I travelled on something similar on my trip to Vienna recently.

The "rounded" top deck passenger windows are clever, they look rounded at a distance, only in the closeup do you see they are made from angular slopes!

Can you not fit a hinge brick somewhere behind the scenes to hold the front window in place at an angle?

well thats only the partial truth unfortunately, unlike our other widely used emu train, the desiro HC, the front cars are actually "locomotives", they have to run with both pantographs up, because there is no HV connection between the two, but they can only be used in 4 or 6 car sets (multiple ones can be coupled together though), like an emu. afaik they can change the number of cars more easily than a true emu. the middle cars also dont contain any traction motors or other equipment needed for movement. as for holding the window in, yes it might be possible to hold it in maybe from the top with a brick modified, the windows space isnt a standart brick width at all. @idlemarvel

You picked a crazy difficult prototype to build. The front does not feel quite right but I'd be hard pressed to have any buildable suggestions that would be any better... well... one thing, it looks like you have a 1x4 tile at the top of the front, would a 1x3 tile work in that spot?

As for the windows, definitely a great job "anti-aliasing" the curve. You might soon be able to take it up one more notch because the 2x1x0.67 curved slope bricks should soon be available in clear.

Well, they are: 100 pieces for €5. (Warning: Link to BB)

Yes, this is really a difficult one! But I must say, you did a very good job!

Best,
Thorsten
