[MOC] 420024 Flatbed truck

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm trying to create my first technic MOC based on 42024 with similar kneeing mechanism as in 8109, but extra platform. I'm looking for some inspirations. Here's what I got for now.

Nice start. There seems to be some kind of sliding mechanism with the tilted bed. This looks interesting, and I can't remember having seen such a "double action" system before, where you first raise the bed, then use a linkage to slide the top part off.

Just asking, but have you seen the current competition [TC27]? It looks like this should fit the requirements! :)

I've seen it (and even replied in that topic), when I was looking for information how this kneeing mechanism works. But my plans are not to use sliding mechanism. Instead of that car platform will move up/down using linear actuator and extra platform will  slide out below it. To do that I need to add simple gearbox and switch, but for now I'm looking for some solution to extend range of this platform. This one in the picture reach to low and touches the ground.

@Erik Leppen
@Paul B Technic
Thank you both :)

There was not much time but I got back to it today, and wanted to show new version. Bit ashamed, comparing to your constructions, but..

New mock-up in which I'm trying to fit all planned mechanisms, with the bricks I have. There's much to do. I don't have enough panels to create platform, but when final version shapes I'll go for shopping to BL. Kneeing mechanism needs to be redesigned as for now it doesn't really lower the platform. Platform extensions will be shorter and I need to figure out simple mechanism to set them in line with main platform after the go out. Gearbox needs to be created and fit in a place. To accomplish that I need to change steering and move linear actuator bit back. Firstly I wanted to use metal one, but it's move range is to large and it goes to high. Anyway  for now that's the plan.

An update with gearbox. Not the first version, but rather last. It' would be nice to reverse direction of sliding platforms to align movement with, second mechanism, but I didn't figure that out yet. Now I have to focus on sliding platforms itself.

An update:

Big progress. I've managed to:

  • Adjust platform high
  • Secondary ramps mechanism is much slower than main platform
  • Flat gearbox with build-in reducer for secondary platforms fitted in place
  • The whole construction is much stiffer.
  • lifting platform and sliding out secondary platforms is now one mechanism
  • thanks to above second gear is for winch, so I've figured how to pass movement to the platform

Todo (for that stage)

  • Stiffer gearbox - sometimes it grinds. I consider using axles instead of liftarms
  • Not sure if it's possible but clutch seems to be useless here
  • change battery mount (already done)

I skipped one version with cross-mounted motor (last photo). The track was shorter, but whole construction was to loose and it couldn't be corrected. Thanks to change motor mount it was also possible to reduce gear ratio, so it takes longer time to reach min/max position and there's more time to watch it. It its even better to have longer truck - longer car can be fitted.
