I bought the first 3 supercars and I didn't buy the Ferrari. I thought Sian was the peak and Ferrari is just Sian 2.0 so I thought I was done with these supercars, but this McLaren looks so nice it makes me contemplate buying it.

There's no way the gear on the rear is for steering, it's not accessible enough. Although I hope that Lego will add it somewhere else.

What a beauty!

And obviously it comes with rectractable rear wing, which will be most likely a feature of the technic model as well.

Edit: And that is what the 12t gear at the back is for

Ah finally a McLaren P1 build that looks to get the rear quarter panel curvature's proportions correct. Don't care about all the whinging that this car is over 10 years old, it's still beautiful and an excellent candidate (although I do kinda prefer the Speedtail)

Looks like we're getting new, taller wheel arches - at least in the rear. I think the 12 tooth gear is for actuating the spoiler.

I didn't like that the Lamborghini and the Ferrari were less iconic models.

While those two aren't exactly Chirons, it is still quite the wierd criticism when the series was started with a mundane GT3. I'd say the Bugatti is the odd one out.

Well, while we're on the topic- I think the Chiron should have been a Veyron, based on my much larger exposure to the Veyron compared with the Chiron in media. Following this, I think the Sian should have been an Aventador. I'm not sure about the Porsche or the Ferrari since I don't really have any big feelings about any specific recent models from them. But, at least IMO, the Veyron and Aventador are more iconic than the Chiron and the Sian. Which is why I'm more happy to get a P1 than some new car I've never heard of before. (Artura, P18, whatever we thought it was gonna be)

Exactly what I'm saying, I agree with both. An Aventador would have been much more exciting, and features the exact same features present on the Sian model (Rear wing, doors, gearbox, steering etc) and the same with the Chiron. A LaFerrari would have suited the Daytona release much more I feel as well. The exposure time those cars have had to media and fans is way greater than a brand new car which personally never appeals to me as much as something thats beeb around for a while.

Sorry, if the Sian is the 1.0, the Daytona is the Sian 0.5.

No mechanism for doors, no AWD, no charisma :D

It does actually jave it, but it's hard and annoying to access.

Im more than happy with it being a P1, as someone has just said previously, being an older car, its had time to collect fans and people who appreciate the model because they know what the car is.

Headlights loon way off, and the "Mouth" is way too big. Rest of the car is amazing.

Completely agree. The rear photos of the set do look amazing! But the front needs some modification.

Interesting choice.  I know I already made comments about comparing this with @brunojj1 's P1 but it will be now even easier given the color choice.

Well, I myself would much rather own a Chiron than a Veyron or a Sian rather than a Aventador. I'd love to own a GT3 as well. In recent years there have been quite a few more rare models of the 911 released compared to the GT3 RS, but back when the 42056 was released I'm not so sure that was the case.

Well, I'm not a big fan of the Veyron, not because I think it's a bad car, it simply doesn't appeal to me.

If real car is in question, then my (Bugatti) choice is Type 101 van Anthen coupe...so no composite materials or plastic (except in Lego) for me

Why are we talking about bugatti type 101 and bugatti Veyrons when this is a thread about the LEGO TECHNIC 42172 MCLAREN P1 🤔

Nice to have another pic of the P1! Am I the only one getting Chiron vibes from the rear 3/4 view? The Chiron also had a curvy rear fender with solid red taillights and adjustable spoiler:

Hopefully the functions are a match for the quality of the exterior, although adjustable suspension may be too much to hope for.

Well, the matter discussed was weather the Chiron should have been its predecessor Veyron instead because the latter supposedly is a more recognizable car. Same with the Sian vs Aventador. Namedropping random cars is not very relevant in my opinion.

I believe the argument was raised that the P1 is a welcome choice for the next 1:8 lego supercar since it is arguably a recognizable car, supposedly more so than the Sian or Chiron (that could have been the arguably more recognizable predecessor Veyron instead). Perfectly on topic I would say.
