Being a licenced car, it's not only up to Lego to make that choice.
It could be a request from Mclaren too, maybe they didn't want to share the design of the P18 before it is officialy announced in case of leaks etc

With the way the ball joints are usually mounted, this will mostly cause the hub to pop out once you really hit a bump. That is the reason why Lego couples the upper and lower wishbone on their suspension when the springs are mounted on the lower wishbone (mostly using some kind of liftarms)

Yeah, the new kind of hubs that have pinholes for balls to go into, those pins pull out if you put any load on the lower wishbone and it's not coupled to the top one.  I suppose the ones with integrated towballs would have to pop it out of the socket, which takes more force.

You must be missing something... Spinning the handle in your model will do nothing, it will just spin the opposite side of the differential with a 4L axle with stop, which is totally loose.

Yes, you are right. Forgot to fix that end of the diff. to the frame.

If I understand the geartrain right, it just waves the P1 and circles back and forth about 60 degrees?  And overall 4.28 reduction in gears, so about 4 cranks to fully go back and forth once.

So if I read correctly - this whole contraption does what a home fan does - swivel/swing/turn left to right and back?
Any mechanical reason for the diff to be there? Or the Orange friciton pin?

Haven't had a coffee yet, my brain hurts looking at this thing.

Yeah, definitely the most obscure GWP I've ever seen. Why couldn't they make something actually desirable, like an 8-wide Speed Champions P1 or something?

I do think it's a good gwp, just, if it's worth $200 now, imagine how much would it be 10 years later

It definitely would be a better collectible investment than a $100,000 McNugget in the shape of an Among Us guy. Yes, that's a real story.

What rare rings? Just because they haven't been used in a set in this color yet, doesn't make them rare. The part out value of this GWP is 30€, I checked. You can easily rebrick it and it's still cheaper than the discount you will save if you buy the McLaren later on.

I'm talking by gwp standards and not by general build standards. I won't buy this set anyway and even if I do, it will be for the parts, so getting a few more from the gwp is better than getting a bunch of system parts that you already have.
