It has some issues as all official sets do, but overall I'm thoroughly impressed especially considering the design of the real car and the endless curves.

The P1 seems like the most complete 1:8 supercar yet in terms of design and functions and the color choice is fantastic.

Wow. Blown by this one! Not fan of supercars, but getting tempted here :) I like the looks, the color is nice (and lots of new parts in it), and the shaping flows nicely, large curvy panels and not much clutter. And the new mechanical stuff is a very pleasant surprise, the 12T clutch gear already, but the suspension arms are the real treasure here for me. They seem quite realistic and seem to be working for driven suspension as well, enabling the springs to be placed inside as in real models. Those parts could be very useful for off-roaders as well, exactly something I'd need for a current build, where the front suspension I built from many small parts is the weak spot. BTW, I think they are 7L, but they have two pinholes at the base, so they can be extended. I wonder if the same part is used at the bottom though. Does anyone see that?

Exactly. I hope a 7L link will follow as well. They could have just come out with that in this model though..

The steering links are shorter than the suspension wishbones.. which means the wheels will turn in/out during suspension travel. The last time they made that mistake was 8880 I believe.

It's the same suspension arm 8x and yes, 7L as mentioned before.

Have you read the first 6ish pages?

Answer is yes.

The quality improved after that as actual leaked pictures were available.

I still only see 4 of them. The reason I wonder is that if the top ones have a hump upwnwards, that means that at the bottom they would have to have the hump downwards. Just wonder how that would work on off-roaders.

Sorry to disappoint @thekoRngear, but I tend to agree with @amorti here that the first pages of this thread were pure speculation and wishing based on close to zero information, just because the topic was opened (a bit early). Would have been happier with a more informative discussion, but to find that out, I have to read through it..

Well, to be honest, every thread is like that. Guessing, speculation, and wishlists until we get actual images and reality hits us square in the collective face as we realise NONE of what we wanted in the set is in there! :laugh:

@Maaboo the Witch I'm not sure about none of the wishlist.

It was kind of always going to get a new gearbox based on the Yamaha parts, and since these things are mostly conglomerations of panels with gearboxes under them...

There are 2 per wheel so a total of 8. Top bends downwards, bottom bends upwards. Here is a better look from one of the prototypes shown at the RLFM  VIP unveiling:

I see, thanks! Now that I think of it, I guess the bottom ones need to bend that way to avoid collision with the wheel hub itself.

Is bump steer a real problem with a small travel suspension, or is it just a matter of principle?

From my experiences building fast motorized cars... usually not, as long as the suspension angles are low. In this specific case it would actually cause toe-in which is much better than toe-out.

In my MOCs with 5L steering and 7L arms I've never seen it be an issue.   It was an obvious issue with 8880 but it had much larger angles between the rack and wheel.

Not a big deal in this case, but if I want to use it for off-roaders with high travel, it might become one. Though in that case it may be better to extend the arms to 9L. But the principle also matters :)

In this specific case, it won't be too much of an issue. My gripe with those new parts is that they will eventually land in some kind of moc, and the set basically teaches you the wrong way to design suspension setups.

Looks very odd from the front, nose is too high, too much black and lights are too big. The back is mega though

Not a day one for me, will wait for a discount. I've still got the Sian and SP3 in boxes waiting to be built.

Just had a look at photos and the Designer video on YouTube and Supercars of London has it too. The back looks great - really great - but the front doesn't look right at all. It's too squashed? Or maybe the elements aren't continuous enough to make it work? I don't know, but it doesn't appeal, which is such a shame, as I love McLaren's and the colour. Maybe it will look better in person.
