Yes, it's definitly the same boat as the Youtube video ! Damn' I really wished it was an official Lego set :pir-love:

By the way, what an amazing MOC from Sebeus I...     I love the 1x2 trans-clear blue tiles to make the sea. So nice !

It's certainly tantalizing. Only six months to wait! It really is a shame how modern it looks compared to pirate ships though. If it includes sails, it will be great at first glance, but likely quickly come undone. With that number of pieces, it may be a perfect candidate for modifying closer to a pirate ship though.

Here's hoping that it does not turn out to be just a Titanic style display piece.

I would actually think that this is the most likely option. I just don´t see them doing it in Minifig Scale.

It is exciting to see Lego cover a different period of history. I would not have thought that the Endurance was sufficiently established within popular culture to be honoured with a Lego set, and potentially with its own GWP as well. I keep on thinking there has been some confusion and there must be a Stars Wars or Marvel spaceship called Endurance as well.

I suspect it will be a display set also. The Endurance is most famous for being trapped in ice therefore that has to be included, which would then lend itself to be a static model for display. Nonetheless the rumoured piece count is large albeit with a wide margin of error, so it could have both sailing and icebound options.

I think the lack of widely recognisable expedition members will also make it less likely to have many, if any, minifigures. Shackleton would be the only name that would have any significant recognition, and even then I suspect the vast majority of people would not know what he looks like.

Up there with Notre Dame as being the most unexpected Lego set this year. The rumoured price  is also less than might be expected, albeit still way beyond my budget.

Yes we do, we know he looks like Kenneth Branagh!

I can't tell you how dissapointed I will be if half of the bricks are used for the surrounding ice, not for the ship itself! :pir-cry_sad:

On the other hand, the Titanic was most famous for sinking, yet the LEGO model did not present a shipwreck. Here's hoping the same will apply to the Endurance (but make it minifig scale, please :pir-sweet:)

Hello Governor and thanks a lot for your warms welcomes !

You know what ? I zoomed on the video thumbail, took a screenshot, then tried "Reverse Google" search, just to be sure...

You were true. Sadly, I think Bricker Clicker simply used a Flikr image named "The Spectre". An amazing Moc from Stefan Eeckman...

The Spectre

So... Nothing proves that this boat will be Minifigs scale. But I realy want to believe that Lego knows how much his fan would love this ! :pir_tong2:

I think Bricker Clicker should have asked me permission to use my image or at least mention my name for using it :damn:.

On another note, I do appreciate how people here recognise my work when they see it .

What an interesting rumor! Whether it's minifigure-scale or not, this will be the first set based on an actual historical sailing ship set in many years (I would not count the Queen Anne's Revenge since the Pirates of the Caribbean version is very clearly a more fantastical take on the real vessel of that name). The last one I can remember based on a real-life named vessel like this would be the 2003 rerelease of the 1978 USS Constellation, and I have no doubt that even if this set is microscale like that one, its parts will be more useful and its design more advanced than that rudimentary model.

I wonder why they chose the Endurance. I don't think it's a well known ship. But which sailing ships are well known all around the world?

Santa Maria, Golden Hind, Constitution, Mayflower, Victory, Vasa? maybe Kruzenshtern?

If I had to guess one potential reason, the Endurance was involved in neither warfare nor colonialism, unlike some of those other historic ships. There were no indigenous peoples in Antarctica who were threatened in the short or long term by Antarctic expeditions, unlike many of those other ships that were used for colonization and oppression of native people.

Also, Endurance is a famous ship of Antarctic exploration. Exploration, polar exploration, (space exploration) are all very much aligned with Lego's brand values. Endurance is probably the most famous sailing ship of exploration that was entirely peaceful. Beagle would also be a good fit, but to a lesser degree, and they've already rejected a Beagle project on Ideas a couple of times.

I guess you're both right. HMS Challenger was also famous for its scientific expedition, but it did participate in some nasty military actions before that.

Indeed. The Cutty Sark and the Mary Rose are well-known in Britain but perhaps not worldwide. The Cutty Sark would at least be relatively unproblematic as a merchant ship but Lego might baulk at giving us 32 sails!

The Mary Celeste is well known and the (non-Pirates of the Caribbean) Flying Dutchman would provide plenty of creative opportunities.

However, what I would really like is a Lego version of the Hispaniola from Treasure Island!

Yes, good shout. While it is not pirates, I am excited to see a sailing ship from a very different era in a very different setting, and with a more scientific background. Hopefully it will find an audience.

Eh…i will be honest i am not familiar with all of these ships you mentioend except for Mayflower. But i think it would be neat to have some of them!

“Endurance” name makes me think of Pirates of Caribbean…you. Kno, Beckett’s ship.

Even if the ship is a display model, with that many parts, it would probably be pretty close to minifig scale, anyways.

And now to be that annoying pirate... :pir-classic:

Lord Cutler-Beckett's ship was named "The Endeavour"...

In my opinion the HMS Beagle would be the ideal ship.
The ship was converted into a survey ship and had never been used in military operations before.
Charles Darwin's journey on the ship was the basis for his entire scientific work.

The ship was also successful in a Lego Ideas competition:

There would also be a matching free gift:

And there are already Mocs in Minifig scale, for example:

Wow, Darwin's cabin looks beautiful and the Beagle is a fine ship

And welcome to the forum @Planke :pir-huzzah2:

Thanks!
After reading for a long time, I've finally registered.
In my opinion, it's the most competent forum about brick-built sailing ships.

The Beagle really would be great. I assume it's a lot more famous than Endurance, but it seems that I'm wrong. Some lovely ideas and models in those links!

In general, I agree with your sentiment.

Though I can imagine that climate-change proponents might disagree with the original -and latter career of the ship...

That's definitely my hope. Any ship nowadays gets me excited, though. I bought Pirates of Barracuda Bay and didn't think twice about displaying it as the regular ship instead of the shipwreck.
