One would think that at least at nearly 1:1 scale LEGO would get rid of the ugly blue pins and yellow axles, but they have to stick to their brand values lol.

Finally, the G Class set released! Thanks TLG for providing a baseline and new parts!

Really look forward the modification of this set (or "wish list" LOL):

  • Quick removable body, it is always good to see the chassis detail and easy to maintain.
  • RC version(Performance-driven and Ready-to-run on the terrain)!
    • RC Steering (maybe with steering wheel linkage)
    • RC RND/High/Low gear selection
    • RC Central / Rear diff lock(maybe linked with Low gear?)
    • Bonus:
      • RC Front diff lock...maybe it is too hard to fit into this small scale IFS...
      • RC winch as optional part

If you would like to share your "wish list" that would be great too! Cheers!

Or if you really want to push yourself, maybe a 7+N would do, but I can't see how could it be implemented with RC without sacrificing the interior. Or, a DNR selector would make sense if you used an LPE to power the model, but then, fitting a 3x diff lock, valve motors, and an air tank would be challenging

At first I was not interested in the G500, it seemed to be just another technic car, another Land Rover...

But the more I see the better it looks. 

I like the drivetrain without excessive gearboxes (that only causes issues).

 

Damn, I should not buy another set this year... :devil_laugh:

Are you sure he's right about that? I thought it was confirmed that the three levers were DNR, Hi/Lo, and central diff lock?

Cannot tell for sure. Take a look at it. He switches the lever with satisfying click and, both pair of axles move. Before switching it was only the rear axle. In both cases the other guy was moving the red gear of the rear diff.

Of course you guys are more expert on this one. :classic:

Btw do you think it will have rolling resistance as much as the Ford Raptor/42126 had?

I'm probably not going to take the time to find the spot in the video (Sorry!), but that behaviour does sound consistent with a central differential lock. With it unlocked, the tendency would probably be for the rear axle to just run the engine extra fast, while with it locked, the front wheels would have to go along with it

That's because front axle has more friction than the rear one, so when the central diff is unlocked, the drivetrain chooses to only propell the rear axle. But when the diff is locked, it's forced to drive all wheels so it looks like an rwd/awd selector.

Yep! Though I think he was saying it's being shown working in reverse in the video, being manually driven from the rear axle instead of from the engine

Well of course, I imagine how challenging it would be to move a complex drivetrain by a fan or something. I'm just used to building rc models, so my logic flows engine/motor>wheels

I just watched a speed build of it, nope, the rear diff lock seems to be manual only... :/

Maybe it's a good thing they didn't make the rear axle differential lock automatic.

Since this is a manual model, there is a good chance that the gears of the differential in the rear axle will break during driving, especially given the profile of the new tires.

I seriosuly doubt that, those diffs are very strong and the load is spread over multiple gears.
