I don't want to touch on hot topics, but the villains who have been omitted in 2023 all have one common characteristic. Harrison Ford's Red Hulk is on the set, a giant alien played by a Caucasian actor (like the ones rumored for now) shouldn't be a problem.

It's a hot topic, I know, but we can't ignore it in this historical period. I anticipate that I will not respond to any provocation :-P

When did you become extremely based?

I'm gonna provoke you because Red Hulk is not an alien.

Tbf, I think it's a translation mistake on his end

No, I meant that red hulk is already confirmed. So the unlucky streak has already been interrupted. The alien speech refers to Galactus, who in my opinion - for now - is not at risk

They were also one of my first introductions to marvel. Honestly I think they really snubbed Ioan Gruffudd in Multiverse of Madness, I mean if that office guy was gonna be Reed going forward that's one thing, but he's not anyway, so why not not indulge in a little nostalgia bait .

That makes more sense than the casting they did go with. I don't get why they used him when they admitted it was only going to be a one-time thing. Would have had more of an audience reaction if they brought back Ioan Gruffudd.

To get back to Lego 😃 for the X-mansion what interiors would everyone like to see?I’m thinking we’ll get cerebro, a danger room with possibly a small sentinel style build. Some classrooms and a random prediction would be wolverine’s room to recreate the meme of him on his bed looking at the picture. Would also guess  a small x-jet similar to the quinjet in tower.

Classrooms weren't a thing in the 90s show. By the 90s, the X-Mansion had stopped being a school and didn't become one again until the movies. I would love to see bedrooms for each of the X-Men, like a Japanese-themed one for Wolverine, some southern touches for Rogue and Gambit's bedrooms, etc. In the comics, Storm's bedroom is just the attic where she keeps her garden of plants but I don't think the 90s show went that route.

A somewhat missed opportunity is that if we had gotten the entire core X-Men team in the sets and CMF series so far, the X-Mansion set could have featured them in their civilian clothes or pajamas instead. Out of the new additions to the team (Morph, Bishop, Sunspot, Nightcrawler), I think Morph is the most likely to be a part of the X-Mansion set because he's always been a fan favorite character (apparently Michael Jackson's fav character too). I'm sure Lego won't miss out on a chance to include him.

You caught me Crossing Borders (2006).

I guess I shouldn't be surprised at all about this, makes sense people with the same interests would move on the same circles.

I've had my suspicions for a while, but I'm still going to have to make you one of my Prisoners (2013).

Perhaps that one was a tad forced.

In any case, I'm still kind of shocked how little we have discussed the sets lined up. This year feels like Infinity Saga part 2 to me, I'm beyond hyped to see the summer wave and D2C.

You forget Dar-Benn from The Marvels.

Given how poorly the prior Ant-Man sets sold (We only got one set for the first and second film), it makes perfect sense as to why we only got a buildable figure for that where they didn't have to make new figures. I expect they intended to feature Kang in the CMF and then later in Avengers 5 sets before all the controversy happened. Kang after all would be highly saught after and people would pay extra just for Kang.

As for GotG3, my guess is that they thought Adam Warlock would be more popular and budget constraints led to them picking him over High Evolutionary. This is likely a repeat of what happened with GotG2 with Ego where we got Ayesha instead.

It is also easier to market sets to children with villains who are more generically evil as opposed to specific relatable or traumatising evils such as the child kidnapper (Dreykov), abusive parent (Ego) or the animal abuser (High Evolutionary).

I'm hyped by the concepts, need to see the execution.

  • Buildable Green Goblin could be neat
  • Surtur Battle I'm interested to see how they do Surtur
  • Avengers Battle I'm curious as to what it'll include
  • Helicarrier depends entirely how it'll be adapted
  • Milano, need to see how it looks
  • Iron Legion set I've lost some interest due to the higher pricing
  • Age Of Ultron: Final Battle I think is mostly dependent on figures

There's other sets, but those are the ones I'm most curious about seeing and hopefully we'll see the buildable figures in March.

Lego doesn’t want to invest in any new designs, or is just plain lazy. They probably keep thinking that this or that particular Wolverine released is going to be the last, but people just keep buying! lol

If Galactus being the villain is true, how would y'all hope to see him portrayed in LEGO? Giant Minifigure like Ares, Mechanized build like Arishem or just a minifigure. Obviously it's reliant on how he's adapted into the film but just an idea to discuss

For me, I'd prefer it if large, brick-built characters look like Ares and the giant Ant-Man from the Civil War airport battle. It just feels more like a supersized minifigure that way, to me :sweet:
Sure, for Arishem his build is more fitting considering his general body shape, but still.

Mitch

Joker has also been portrayed in various cartoons aimed at children as a criminal prankster, and not exclusively as an animal abuser or child murderer. Plus, it’s the Joker. He’s arguably the most iconic villain in all of fiction, as opposed to some c-lister, which makes him much harder to skip.

I suppose, remember when they included Punisher in that Superhero Squad show for kids, Anyway they done Deadpool in the Ultimate Spider-Man show so they might find a way to make Victor Zsaz kid friendly xD

I wouldn’t read too deeply into these three villains not having minifigs :classic: Kang will likely show up in an Avengers 5/6 set (unless they completely push him into the background), Dar-Benn wasn’t exactly memorable, and the High Evolutionary is an animal abuser and genocidal maniac :laugh_hard: Ok, the latter is true for many villains, but most of them don’t succeed, unlike him. And then there’s the nice image of what Rocket did to him *huh*

It's not like they knew any of that while designing the sets...

It has nothing to do with anything, but I was thinking about how much James Gunn was involved in the problems with last year's sets:

1) it's his fault we don't have Star Lord's helmet. The director was even annoyed that it was present in Infinity War, because in his opinion it had previously been destroyed (as if it couldn't be fixed or rebuilt).

2) Bautista had complained several times about the long make-up sessions for playing Drax, so Gunn decided to do his friend a favor by making him wear the jacket.

3) The new spaceship isn't too bad in the movie, but it's too difficult to do it justice in toys. A ship more similar to the first two, perhaps with the colors of the new uniform, would have been a better choice in my opinion!

So Peter without a helmet, Drax in a suit and a disappointing spaceship: Some of the most iconic aspects of the group (and which would have improved the sets) overlooked in a shameful way. All thanks to Gunn (good director but very overrated) :-p

Fair point, the set designers probably don’t get any information like that :classic: Unless they were specifically asked not to feature the character by Marvel

I think a semi-UCS-style set could do it justice  If the Milano does well this summer, I can easily see them giving it a shot in a few years!

I see what you're saying and that is possible, but I honestly think it's a coincidence. It just happens to be that lego's drastically scaling back what they do for new releases, and Red Hulk made it in because kids see Red Hulk and it's more immediately "cool avengers character" than "weird face dude in a purple suit", "human-looking lady with hammer", etc. Kang is an outlier there, but at the same time, it's Kang, and I still don't see ANY way lego logically could have been like "nah, we don't need him in the sets" unless they knew what Majors was up to ahead of time or something.

2 hours ago, THELEGOBATMAN said:

Exactly. Whatever the reason, it's not going to be related to what the character did in the movie, be it particularly evil acts or just being a lame villain.

Rumors are that Kevin Feige is considering putting Deadpool and Wolverine in Avengers 5 so if that happens do you think we'll get them in a set since the movie is PG-13 so why not.

Wolverine, yes. Deadpool, no. Not to beat a dead horse, but Deadpool has a reputation and one PG-13 movie isn’t going to change his public perception. If anything, I think his presence in Avengers 5 would cause controversy for the film, not the other way around.

Depends on how big their role will be, and how many sets LEGO will make.

Not sure if they'll appear in The Kang Dynasty, but Secret Wars has potential to be the most soulless, cameo-filled movie ever made. If they have a big enough role, I don't see why LEGO wouldn't include them in a set.

Unless the merchandise takes the Endgame route, with totally random, inaccurate sets.

Depends on their focus. I think the easiest way would be a polybag, 18+ Deadpool Mask/Bust set, Comic-inspired Deadpool or something like that. Seperating Deadpool from everything else would help to ensure it does not impact the sales of the sets, which would be one of Lego's concerns of including an adult focused character such as Deadpool.

Just now, THELEGOBATMAN said:

Though I would'nt be surprised if we don't get accurate Avengers movie sets until a year or so after release, depends how they market the films.

There's also likely to be a large cast of characters so if Deadpool is just a small role then the chance of him being included is slim. I'd imagine it'll take them several years worth of sets to give us all the characters from Avengers 5 & Avengers 6 (Potentially Avengers 7 if its split)

8 hours ago, Legocentrico said:

That's fair, I'd consider the same if it was more reoccuring and if it was more specifically focused, but this is not the first time they've failed to give us villains and I can at least see potential reasons for why we would'nt have gotten them.

7 hours ago, Lego Nostalgia said:

I think it depends on what it is adapting from specifically, though admittedly the more likely explanation is a mixture of budget, focus and marketability.

Which is more marketable, a gold character (Adam Warlock) who pairs with the other gold character your released (Ayesha) or a guy wearing a purple suit (High Evolutionary)

I'd hope eventually we'll get legacy sets revisiting characters, but we are still waiting on The Destroyer, Whiplash MK1, Kurse, Malekith, Kaecilius, Ego and probably several other villains from prior phases they skipped. We'll get there eventually I imagine.
