Love the bomber, my only complaints are the gap for the flick fire bombs (easy to mod a panel to cover them) and the opaque cockpit window (might also be fixable but less easy) but they aren't significant issues. I also have 2 of the original set from 2003 and this new one is the same size but sturdier and better in every way.

As for price, you can find it a bit cheaper on eBay. I got mine BNISB for £35. As great as it is I definitely wouldn't want to pay significantly more than that. (And yeah the Sloane figure is really nice to have)

Thank you. One question though: how were you able to get it for that cheap? The only ones that price I can find on eBay don’t have minifigs.

The Bomber is fine with good figures like Sloane and the Droid (edit: I made a mistake and the Droid I mean is part of the below mentioned Tie Fighter).

I only can complain a little bit about the smaller size compared to the Tie Fighter 75300 and the cockpit window.

Thanks.

Anyone else surprised that Lego has never made a proper imperial base on par with all the hoth play-sets they’ve made over the years?

I’m talking about a proper base. Not the bunker.

A question for owners of the 2023 Tie Bomber:

How good is it? I’ve recently been contemplating buying it because I’d like to expand my imperial forces (and because it looks beautiful). I’ve also recently finished the Aftermath trilogy and have an urge to get Sloane. I’m on the edge.

But I also want to get the ISD and 1-2 Dropship + Speeders.

Should I wait for better deals? There’s a good one on Smyths rn for £42, but could the price lower further?

I got mine from Smyths as well iirc it was discounted to £40 at the time. The minifig selection is a bit weak ( only 3 minifigs in a £60 set, and no whilst cool the Gonk is just regular bricks, The Vader is a good looking fig but one I already had several of so really it felt like 2 useful figs, that being Sloane and the tie pilot for the ship) though them including a book character at random in a imperial set gave me slight hope they might do it again (Eli Vanto maybe? Or Pealleon or Moff Ghadi). I've not read the aftermath trilogy, are they any good? My current SW reading is deep into the High Republic. But once I've finished that ( and the books have finished coming out) the next 3 books on my list are Plagueis, Tarkin and A New Dawn. Is aftermath worth adding to the list?

But back to the Tie bomber, I have seen it sealed for as low as £35. But I'd say it's a good set just not one worth it's full recommended retail price.

I was hoping the imperial death star player would work as a generic imp based if one took away the super laser... But it's was a star destroyer all along!

Sloane has the added advantage of having been featured in Squadrons, which came out not long before the Bomber IIRC.

And the Aftermath trilogy is really solid. I wouldn't say it's essential reading, but if you have an interest in the story immediately post-RotJ it's good. Similar vibe to the Battlefront II storyline IMO.

I know I’m making a big deal out of something really trivial, but blacking out the cockpit windows on the TIE Bomber and TIE Fighter is really weird to me. I get with larger ships it’s not always possible to add transparent canopies to see the pilots inside, but for single-pilot ships it’s just odd, even if it’s only to achieve a better rounded effect with the front of the TIE Bomber and Fighter. Part of the charm with smaller craft is seeing the little minifigure pilot at the controls behind the cockpit window.

As much as the ISD is a really well designed set, part of me does still wonder just how awesome a Death Star playset could’ve been, especially if Lego had taken some lessons learned from the Yavin IV playset. That said I do appreciate the smaller playsets we have been getting like the Peridea and Mandalorian Bunker sets, and hope we get more stuff like that in the future. The Bunker one still amazes me as not only is the build itself quite solid and coherent, but we get a bunch of new helmet moulds and characters in it at a relatively low price.

I personally really liked Aftermath. Norra Wexley is a very moving character. (So is Sinjir) Though Wedge Antilles is quite questionable at times.

Tarkin is frankly amazing. So is Thrawn Ascendancy.

Same. Why can’t Lego just make a turbolaser emplacement with a small barracks or an Imperial hangar or even a checkpoint or something?

Also Pellaeon is quite likely since Filoni has plans for him.

Not surprised at all. Why release an Imperial base when battlepacks, starfighters, or cruisers have much broader appeal?

Let‘s take the Imperial base in Mando S2. Iconic scene (especially the tense Tarantino-esque moment between Mando, Mayfeld, and Hess), but what’s more likely if they wanted to make a set based on that episode? The base, or the juggernaut they steal to get there? I think the answer is obvious

And I still want that set. We’ve been robbed!

Agreed: Luceno and Zahn are two of the best when it comes to writing Star Wars.

And yeah a base build of some sort would be great. Honestly I think my favourite set this year (pending the Sail Barge) has been the Tantive IV hallway (bought it without the minifigures though since I have enough Stormies/Rebels, and the RRP is a bit too high for me). I love getting the interiors of ships done properly like that. I'd really love some nicely-done Imperial settings like the ones you've mentioned; the small cramped scenes they put in the Star Destroyer or the 10188/75159 Death Stars just don't do it for me.

I guess that's also why I want the Sail Barge to have a proper interior.

I’m not surprised tbh, although we’ve had parts of different imperial bases.

think of the OT only kind of imperial base is on Endor which we’ve had, everything else has always been rebels featured hence why we’ve had a Yavin and echo base and after that a lot of the films are on capital ships.

outside of the OT in the imperial era, rebels focused on ships and land vehicles (tbf most of LSW does the same), rogue one we did have the scariff base set. Mando we’ve got the new set with Paz vizla and moff Gideon.

I think the big issue is selling a set that is an imperial base most sets are kind of based on something from films/shows is there an imperial base that features prominently enough to warrant a set?

also it’s Lego we can pretty much make and design our own bases, that’s what I’ve done in the past.

I feel like the best shot at getting some sort of imperial base would probably just be a Death Star playset along the lines of the (false) rumor from earlier this year. Unless they do Endor at some point I just don't think anything else is really iconic enough to get a decently sized build, especially considering how few location sets we get to begin with. Now would be a decent time for a Death Star playset since there isn't an UCS version out, but who knows, maybe Lego is already cooking up a new one.

Aldani (focus point of 3 Andor episodes), Endor (ROTJ, BF, BF2) the base on coruscant (TCW, TOTE, TOTJ, TBB), Lothal (Rebels), Imperial Hangar/ Airbase (Andor, Rebels, TBB, OT, Mando, Ahsoka, BF, BF2, JS, Squadrons, Outlaws…

We’re pretty much guaranteed a Sail Barge reveal any day now, right? Right? :pir_laugh2:

Possibly.

I honestly just want to see the GBP price of the Dropship + Speeder. (Pls be £35. Pls don’t be £45)

Might have a Rix Road moment if it's £45  (still not over the UK price of the Phantom II back in 2017 being £40 while it was 30 USD; even with taxes taken into account there was no justification for that)

I know it'll never happen because I feel like at $30 they're probably breaking even on that set sales-wise, but if it's $30 I will purchase at least 4 copies over the course of it's run. Otherwise:

$35: probably still get 4 copies- $35 is about what I think it should cost.

$37.99 (this is kind of what I think it'll be, might be slightly optimistic): three copies

$40: two copies, but only one at first, crossing my fingers for a sale

$45: one copy a few months after release

This is a set idea I've wanted for forever. I think literally since 2010 when I saw pictures of the scout speeder in the visual dictionary, it just stuck with me for some reason. It turned out OK (I would have liked Rebel Friend and a Shadow Trooper instead of QT-KT, and the dropship doesn't feel like a significant upgrade over the 2019 model), so pricing is going to matter to me a fair bit here.

"Price inflation is a disease that thrives in darkness. It is never more alive than when we sleep. It's easy for the people who weren't going to buy it anyway to tell you to boycott, and maybe it's true, maybe boycotting it is useless. Perhaps it's too late. But I'll tell you this- if I could do it all again, I'd wake up early, and be boycotting these increases from the start."

I dunno honestly if it's $40 or under I'll probably still get two, even though I think it should be $35, but I just wanted to roll through with the Maarva quote.

There is one way out. Right now, the Lego Store is ours. You need to run, climb, buildl!
You need to help each other. You see someone who's confused, someone who is lost, you get them building and you keep them building until we put this place behind us. There are 5,000 of us. If we can build half as hard as we've been working, we will be home in no time. One way out! One way out! One way out!"

Fingers crossed. Venator was announced on 12th Sep last year. Not sure if I remember any decent leaks in advance.

It’d be funny if the Rebuild the Galaxy special was our first look at the Sail Barge. Maybe Jabba in the bizzaro galaxy is a Mr. Beast type.

The Venator leaked on September 9th. Pretty decent, since it was on display at a Lego Store at one airport in Singapore (?).

Take this with a grain of salt, but @TandNbricks is hinting at something Jango-related. The post makes several references (donuts, a tale as old as time, a fellowship, a superhero team, family), and one of them is a „simple man trying to find his way in the universe“

Probably the rumored Jango Fett helmet?

I know that there was a rumor recently that we're getting both a Jango and Bo-Katan helmet, so perhaps this is further comfirmation.
