LEGO Star Wars 2024 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!

I know it’s very much an apples and oranges thing, but from the standpoint of Lego sets as toys above all else for kids and if we take these toys at face value, Star Wars sets simply don’t compare to Ninjago. Ninjago sets are often much more colourful, well designed, and have a plethora of interesting minifigures and new weapon moulds year after year by virtue of being Lego’s own IP and not being beholden to the same scrutiny by the company’s bean counters the way Star Wars is. I thought 2024 was a decent year for LSW (although I’d argue the March and June mini-waves were better than the summer wave), but the Dragons Rising sets blow them out of the water.

That’s not to say this theme is inferior, but most if not all of us are drawn to these sets because of our love for the source material, as is the case for any licensed theme really.

Only 2 weeks to go until Rebuild the Galaxy, can’t wait! I’m so happy they’ll be releasing all the episodes at once, a miniseries like this is the perfect way to celebrate the theme’s 25th anniversary.

I think 2024 is an awesome year for the theme. The Mando S3 and Ahsoka sets are fantastic, the anniversary figures a great idea well-executed with some fan favourites finally getting the spotlight, and the whole RTG idea still puts a big smile on my face  The reveal of the 2HY set list was the most fun I ever had with LEGO rumours bar none.

While 2024 isn’t my favourite year for LSW specifically (it’s definitely in the top 3 though), it’s my favourite LEGO year overall so far. And it’s not recency bias at play here. Animal Crossing, Zelda, and Barad-Dûr alone are responsible for that, and other themes like Ideas and Icons helped as well

Totally agree, the Zelda set alone made this one of the best years for me as well!

I think this theme as a whole has been strong since 2021 - I know people were more or less happy with the 2020 summer lineup (not to mention in all fairness it was the swan song of the beefy January waves), but I feel like that was a transitionary period between LEGO Star Wars concluding its coverage of the Sequel Trilogy and gearing up for covering the Disney+ shows / Clone Wars etc. the following year and beyond.

Exactly. People often cite 2013 or 2014 as their favourite LSW years, and those were great, don’t get me wrong, but I love the variety we’ve been seeing since 2021 in particular

If only they could even things out between waves a bit more. It’s annoying to always have to wait for the 2HY waves for the juicy sets

Agreed on both builds. The Scout Speeder is drop-dead gorgeous, but the Dropship looks so bad it's honestly making me reconsider a set that I'd planned on buying day one. Even outside of my general issue of this (like the 2019 version) failing to really capture the original set or what certain parts of it represented (I HATE the dark blue, the only reason the OG used blue was because that color was used on TIE Fighters at the time), the shape is so funky, the overwhelming amount of brown makes it look rusty, and it's funny how every version of this craft removes another seat from the troop transport.

It's odd that they introduce a new medium nougat female Rebel head when they could've just reused the nougat female Rebel head from Yavin. Not complaining, but I feel as though if they were going to make one new Rebel head print they should've made it more distinct. I don't mind the reuse of Captain Antilles' head, but I do mind the lack of back printing on QT-KT - way to make the last anniversary figure feel special.

Honestly, I wish this set was just the Rebel Scout Speeder with 4 Rebel Fleet Troopers and QT-KT at the standard $25 price. Have one of the Fleet Troopers be the long-desired Rebel Friend, and I'd probably pay $25. As-is, I might end up skipping this one, which is disappointing.

Has the price actually been confirmed yet though? Just think 45 is crazy considering the BP we got in January was 25. I know there’s an anniversary figure so I expect a small increase but not nearly double. 

I do want this set id even get two to get more fleet troopers but as it could be a Lego exclusive I doubt it’ll ever be on sale and if it is 45 then it’s too much to get more than one

Imo the 2008 versions looked better, the new ones are too small and cut in half, detail is better on the speeder though

Both the AT-AT and the X-Wing didn't leak until about a month before they released. The fact we've already seen Crumb and one of the inner boxes is more than we usually get. Either way, we could very well see something this week.

90% of my rebel fleet troopers use the no-pupil chinstrap head, so honestly I'm fine with whatever they throw in expression wise, but I can see the argument against a named character head.

I can't find whatever better images of the set you've found, but your view on the dropship concerns me. They did such a good job in 2019 with that year's update, I'm sad to hear they've dropped the ball this year.

I can agree with this, but I can't help but think of how much better it'd have been with three full waves of playsets instead of one wave diluted across 1hy and another in august. This year, like you said, had some really incredible ideas, but the volume of system sets just isn't what it used to be.

Won’t it just be lukes lightsabre or is it a geo just when you buy the barge?

I think as far as 18+ sets go we should get three a year, whether its helmet, midi scale, or diorama (not including UCS). They typically cost between $60-$100 so all together they would roughly average around $240 which I think is enough for most AFOLs if they want to collect them all.

If it's like the previous lightsaber GWPs then it'll be just the big set itself (previous ones were only for Mos Eisley and the AT-AT). 

Very strange that they made a new head for the female Rebel- the one in the Yavin base is great and they could've reused that to save costs (to be clear I'm not complaining about a new head, just weird that it's so similar when they might as well have made a completely different one altogether for more diversity).

And talking about diversity, some in-universe diversity could have worked if they given us a non-human rebel too. That would have been cool.

I agree in general, but I do miss how we used to get waves with a central theme, such as a specific battle. There's enough content now that that's harder to do, but I think a wave with 3-4 sets each from a specific battle could be a lot of fun.

Non-human rebels work and we need more of them, but the Fleet Troopers are mainly Alderaanian, and from what we know they're mainly human. I believe one of the battlefronts gave us non-human fleet troopers so I wouldn't be super opposed, but for a battle pack style set I'd prefer human ones.

It's because Disney isn't creating any compelling new content anymore. If every Disney+ show was like seasons 1&2 of the Mandalorian kids would be screaming for new sets. Cool characters, spaceships and classic good vs evil action will suck kids in.

Instead we get the Acolyte which has almost no compelling characters, iconic locations or interesting spaceships, plus a storyline which is too grey for kids to follow and too cringey for adults. I suspect Lego took one look at the concept drawings and wisely decided there was no money to be made there.

That was pretty neat back in the day, but even then I would’ve preferred more variety. I remember being disappointed in 2013 that all of the AotC sets that summer were based on the Battle of Geonosis, no Jango’s Slave 1 or Bounty Hunter Chase to be found, which still haven’t been remade to this day

Jakku, Umbara, Endor, Ryloth, Geonosis 2 (electric boogaloo) and Utapau would all be great choices.

The fact that it's been 22 years and we haven't seen a remake of either of those two sets is a genuine tragedy. The Bounty Hunter Pursuit is the perfect LEGO set. Two bright colourful vehicles, 3 must have and desirable characters, and the possibility to add a few extras too.

That Zelda set looks great, wished that I could afford to expand my collection beyond SW and LOTR but I cant. Would be a supercool set to havr next to my nintendo.

I agree, mostly because they could‘ve included Nien Nunb in there, freeing his anniversary spot for a different minifig
