Capt Wolf Posted September 25 July – Sept 623. Vol. 8, Issue 3 Pirate Reign of Terror on Corries Continues Captain van Baarle Takes on Sea Rat Kane From Mesabli Landing we hear that Capt. Willem van Baarle returned from his pirate-hunting mission with mixed results. Leading a squadron out of Port Woodhouse that included the frigate HMS Phama; the man-o-war Semilliante, fresh from re-armament in Port Woodhouse; and HMS Melampus, a class 7 frigate recently assigned to van Baarle’s pirate-hunting squadron, reports from the Corrish admiralty indicate that van Baarle found his prey in the East Prio Sea when they encountered Kane’s new flagship, Perla de Labuan, a class 9 galleon, leading eight(!) other ships under his black flag – including the recently captured Corrish terraman ETTC Royal George. Capt van Baarle used the weather gauge to his advantage to cut out the man-o-war Paraiso from Kane’s fleet. But Kane was still able to maneuver Perla de Labuan, La Gomera, and Habana into firing position. With hopes of capturing Paraiso dashed, HMS Phama sank Paraiso in a hail of broadsides, but HMS Melampus was sunk under heavy fire from the pirates, and Semilliante was heavily damaged before Capt. van Baarle was able to retire from the encounter. With the loss of one ship of similar size on each side of the battle, one could call it a draw, but the size of Kane’s fleet will force the Corries to commit more forces to the hunt if they intend to prevail. Captain Nordau Attempts Raid on Jameston Meanwhile, Eslandian pirate Captain Nordau struck again, this time raiding the city of Jameston. His fleet, led by iconic flagship Buccaneer’s Dread, reportedly was otherwise comprised solely of captured Corrish vessels: terraman ETTC Sussex, fifth rate ETTC Pallace, and the brig-rigged sloop of war ETTC Muharib. The pirate fleet far outgunned Jameston’s meager defenses and was able to approach shore taking only minor damage. But when the pirates came ashore to plunder away, they were met with the better part of two battalions of battle-tested troops that quickly repulsed the pirate scum. More damage was inflicted on Nordau’s fleet as they made their escape. Surprisingly, three more ships flying Nordau’s black flag, man-o-war Tuna King and two captured gunboats, approached the port later in the day, apparently hoping to take advantage of the aftermath of a successful raid. But the redcoats were ready, sinking one gunboat and damaging the other before forcing Tuna King to turn tail with its damaged gunboat in tow. Pirate Round-Up LeColeon attacks new Terraversan trade ship Here in Kings Port, officials were happy to unveil the newly built Triggerfish, a small schooner designed for long-distance routes. Coastal observers were thus dismayed when, shortly after departing on a solo mission to Jameston, she was almost immediately attacked by the notorious pirate LeColeon in his flagship Reaver’s Revenge, along with a recently captured Namerean trader. Before Terraversan authorities could do anything, LeColeon had boarded Triggerfish, took her as a prize, and sailed her to the west to points unknown. Most concerning to local officials is that they believe the pirate must have had shelter somewhere on the island of Terraversa. It is unknown at this time if authorities in Oleon or the Commonwealth of Terraversa have given pirates shelter, but we sincerely doubt Grand Admiral L’Olius would ever stoop to such a low. Capt Merker lures away ESL Colonial Storm Our man in Nova Terreli reports that Captain Nordau is not the only Eslandian pirate on the Brick Seas these days. Adding to the Greenies’ headaches is Captain Jack Merker, who was spotted in the Cocovia Sea flying the black in the man-o-war Blackjack as the Sleeping Siren II fleet left King’s Harbour. The fleet proceeded on to Nova Terreli, dispatching the man-o-war Colonial Storm to deal with the pirate. Merker once served under the Colonial Storm’s captain before Merker was captured by the Lotii, and some believe Merker holds Captain Blowenhardt responsible. Sleeping Siren II watched Colonial Storm pursue Blackjack over the horizon, and Colonial Storm has not been heard from since. HMS Alice missing; JVS to blame? Our man in Belson reports that the HMS Alice is overdue and officially listed as missing. It had been working its way down the continental coast, where the pirate Jan Van Sud is known to hunt, but there have been no sightings of either the notorious pirate or the HMS Alice. From the War Zone Reports from the New Haven Sea and El Oleonda indicate a slowing down of hostilities with the Lotii, but that is not to be mistaken for an end to the war. Scamandre has close call From Fort Arltrees we have received word that the crew of the ship-of-the-line Scamandre had a narrow escape from what is believed to be the lone remaining Lotus war fleet. Scamandre could have turned back, but pressed on to carry needed supplies into Fort Arltrees. War junks Leapfrog and Lymph led several other junks in the attack against the Oleonder ship, and both sides took damage. HMS Dominance, the former Corrish dreadnaught, was among the Lotus vessels, but never successfully maneuvered into position to be a threat. Scamandre’s crew capitalized on the trouble the Lotus appeared to have working the unfamiliar ship to maneuver free and break for Fort Arltees. El Cisne captured! Meanwhile, sources on the ground behind Lotus lines report that the Corrish galley El Cisne was seen entering the Lotus port of Oryant under the watchful eye of the small junk Scorpion. From what we gather, the El Cisne was far of course on its voyage from Queenston in the far eastern reaches of the New Haven Sea, and by the time they realized their mistake, it was too late. All crew were taken prisoner by the Lotii. We have received no word from the Corrish admiralty as to what they plan to do about this. - page 2 - Weather Report A major weather system raged through the appropriately named Sea of Storms, wreaking havoc from Weelond to Terraversa. From Eltina we hear that the Eslandian schooner Midas Touch II was separated from her squadron and was diverted from her destination of Breshaun. Our reporter in Eltina also sends word that a Namerean trader expected in port from Nola Mar was overdue and thought lost at sea. Here in Kings Port, the Eslandian galleon White Rabbit arrived safely, but had severe rigging damage. And our man in Nova Terreli reports that the sloop Lady’s Revenge II, expected here in Kings Port, instead was forced to stop at the small Eslandian port of Montario on the island of Nelissa. The storm lost strength for a bit, but continued east and regained strength in the Sea of Thieves. From Elysabethtown we hear that the Eslandian nao Hidalga lost its valuable cargo in the rough seas and was forced to cut its journey to Nova Terreli short. The storm continued into the Cocovia Sea, and our reporter in Elizabethville sends word that when the Prio trade fleet arrived there, it reported that the sloop Patriot III had been separated from the fleet in the storm and is presumed lost. And Terraversan trade officials tell us that the sloop trident was forced to make port at Astrapi when it could not continue on to Salida Este. Mercantile News Our reporter in Breshaun says Eslandian crews are partying it up with the lovely Oleonder ladies after the galleon Le Contessa de Victoria and trader Far Horizon both pulled in top doubloons for their cargos. We also hear from Weelond that the crew of the sloop Lady of Madrice II was spending DBs in the bars all around port after a successful voyage. Continuing the theme of Greenie traders doing well, we hear that the crew of Valiant Phoenix is partying in Nova Terreli after scoring a top price for their cargo from King’s Harbour. Speaking of King’s Harbour, we hear that Corrish traders sailing Turaco II and Albatross got several shiny doubloons for delivering their cargo. And sailors throughout Quinnsville are celebrating the HMS Indominable delivering the naval payroll. Finally, our man in Prinport tells us the black market is once again booming in that Garveyian port known as a haven for pirates. Capt Wolf Posted September 25 Self-reporting an error in the result tables: The ships Cardinal's Shadow, Lucky Corsair, and Night Pillager, reported as belonging to the pirate Montroy, whereabouts unknown, actually sailed under the Carno flag to Seawatch this turn.
