True, though given the history of LEGO themes’ lore, I consider both tie-in comics and designer intent to be equal in terms of canonicity.

So, zero. Same for me. We use our imagination in Legoland!

Canon is for licenced products like Star Wars

I meant that since the information we have for classic themes comes both from marketing materials (comics, catalogue descriptions, etc) as well as designer interviews (such as the meaning of the CS colours), I consider both marketing and design teams’ interpretations to be equally valid with regard to LEGO’s intent for a theme (that is, a theme with minimal lore that needs to be pieced together from a variety of sources).

Yeah but I feel comic is…werid. I mean Wanda About in our present time going to Planet Nine (Planet X)? Space. City sets look very futuristic than modern-day versions like 2022’s lunar sets. I prefer using my own imgination than follwoing “facts” provided by comics.

Given variety of sources, it’s pretty cool to piece them together into a lore but i’ m not crazy about it myself.

This is another contradiction - The designers stated that the sets were intended to depict the far future, but the comic takes place in the present day.

The beauty of CS is that there is no "story" - it's purely what the kid wanted it to be.  I also think it's great that all the faces are the same (two eyes and smile) - could be any personality, gender, role you wanted it to be.

I agree with first leaf of this. I respcefuly disagree with classic smiley face. I understand that Classic Space theme must have classic face for old time’s sake.  But…Since 2018, Modular Buidling Collection no longer feature that classic face, in the result, it brings more personalities to modular citizens. I was a kid in 2000s and there were no classic faces at that time. I love modern faces - so many facial expersision, so many colorful lipsticks, so many facial hair, so many personalities. I love it. Plus, I don’t know if classic face will appeal to the young kids in 2020s when we have Space City subtheme? I guess it’s only for Space AFOLs.

I have a question for you folks - IF anyone has a Retro Space Logo Cap from Insiders’ Reward section…. Is that cap supposed to be for kids or adults? The picture is little hard for me to tell its size.

I don't know for the Retro Space Logo Cap, but I 'purchased' the Cap with Adjustable Logo, and that one definitely is adult-sized. In fact, its a bit big for my head.

It's true, the more detailed faces give each minifig a "personality" (at least how each person imagines it).  i think that works for many themes.  However, with space (CS in particular) where so much was left to the imagination, I just don't see the need for specific personalities.  With all the different face prints today, I found my kids changing the heads of minifigs a lot to get the one that "matched" the role that person was supposed to have in their made-up game.  I guess that adds to the play for kids.  On the other hand, it means you want to have a lot of different face prints on hand.

I thought about getting one of these, but one of my pet peeves about clothing is the "worn" or "distressed" look of some new clothes.  I'd love to have a CS logo cap, but I refuse to pay for a new article of clothing that has been deliberately "distressed" just to make it look old.  If I am going to pay for a new article of clothing, I want it to look new.  Would anyone buy new Lego bricks that had been deliberately "aged" to look old, like "yellowed" white, for instance?  I think not.  (Sorry, for my little rant there.)  Obviously some like this look, but it's not for me.

I got that blue hat - it fits an adult head. I didn't like that it's pre-'worn' either, but I got it anyway.

And I'd rather they never replaced the classic smiley on anything

You are right about CS  stuff not needing modern faces. I feel classic smiley face is more iconic for space themes.

Agreed with you two it looks like someone wore that cap several times before donating it to Lego, where they stitched Space logo on it!

The orange Futuron torso from Build a Minifigure is a great addition to the Space theme along with the new Blacktron, Ice Planet and M-Tron minifigs.

Wow!  Those look great!  I'm trying to find those torsos on the US site...but no luck so far.  There are a few 'Mini Upper Parts' that don't have a picture.  I was wondering...might you have the part number or ID that was listed on the Build-a-Minifigure site?  Would love to order some of these myself!  Thank you for considering!

EDIT:  I see they're perhaps only available in LEGO Stores!

As a huge fan of Futuron I was very happy when I found these. They are all bought from Legoland Billund and Lego House so I haven't seen any part IDs or numbers but I found them on Bricklink.

Very cute! Incidentally, since the print on the torso is the new Reddish Orange that might be a closer match, though while arms exist thanks to the construction workers in some of the new City sets, and hips and mid-length legs will soon exist thanks to Audie from the Animal Crossing theme, it may be a while before we see hands, helmets, airtanks, or full-length legs in that color.

Interesting. Thanks for the information. I guess I have to make a reddish orange one when all the parts become available sometime in the future. The printed color on the torso is close enough to regular orange to make it look similar.

These look great! The orange tone mismatch is practically imperceptible on camera but at least the parts you need are coming soon. You make me wish they'd use these figs in a set in the future as I don't have a Lego store near me. These look basically official is what I'm trying to say. Much respect to you!

Thank you! If I get all parts in reddish orange I'll keep both versions. The torso is available on Bricklink, I posted the link above.

The trailer for LEGO City: No Limits is up, and it looks like we will be getting a Space episode along with some lore.

It looks like the No Limits crew has been working on the Space vehicles and equipment (we see the exploration rover in the background of Mech Max’s garage). The green robot from the base seems to go haywire and escape in the car from 60415, and Bytz builds the construction mech (with the 60400 go-karts as skates!) to chase it down. The robot ends up on Planet X and befriends one of the blob aliens, and Wanda About heads there to retrieve it (riding one of the space-horses from the magazine comic).
We get some good shots of the base and mining facilities on the planet (most of the modules are the bottom portion of the main base, with the pods stacked on or around; both the base and science lab themselves appear as well), along with some City Space 2024 recolours of a few of the 2018 mining vehicles. The base has some kind of energy shield, so we can add that to the list of technologies that the City Space team has! Also, Wanda and Bytz are seen running with interesting-looking guns, while fleeing from purple energy beams. These beams seem to generate a stasis field around objects that they hit, so whoever is chasing them seems to want to capture them (or steal crystals/batteries/equipment from the Space team).

I wonder why they didn’t include Wana About, Mech Max, and Bytz characters in Space City sets but only show up in comic and tv show. Anyways, that trailer is pretty interesting.

They are included in other sets - Mech Max was in the 2023 custom car garage, Bytz is in the 2023 downtown and 2024 robot world coaster (along with No-Face), Wanda About is in the new sightseeing bus, and Just Jason is in the harbour.

I was talking about those those characters not in Space sets. But yes I know the are included in non-space sets.

Thank you for the detailed synopsis, I'm interested in these as they can help flesh out my son and I's world building with our space stuff. I love that these videos combine multiple characters across various satellite City themes. I will be sure to watch this with my son later on. Thanks so much for the heads up about this!
