Renny The Spaceman Posted June 5 How dedicated is the Pharrell fanbase? I doubt this is gonna appeal to anyone else given the price.
TeriXeri Posted June 5 (edited) Definately not an interesting set for me , seems very focused on the "create a minifig with your personal look" , and the colored trail, and very little spaceship. In this case, even the 4+ City Spaceship is still a much better set, and this year has been a treasure trove of Space sets overall, with City and Friends, or Technic, and those Alien Pack sets as well. Lyichir Posted June 5 Hm... the Pharell spaceship is not only smaller than I expected, but quite a bit less zany. When I heard it was going to be something with such unusual theming and a decently high price I was hoping for something more creative and off-the-wall like some of the Lego Movie sets, but apart from the (admittedly well done) rainbow launch trail, the ship looks disappointingly mundane. Black Falcon Posted June 5 10 hours ago, Space78 said: Excellent point. Maybe this is a licensed set, thereby raising the price? Well it is licensed and surely that also increases the price. But the ship itself is making maybe 20% of the Sets Price IMO, the majority goes for the (admittedly well built) stream, the minifigures and the "phriends". Whyever someone would behead his friends and display their heads is beyond my imagination though. The ship itself is pretty basic IMO, not a bad build but nothing compared to the Lightyear-ship either.
TeriXeri Posted June 5 (edited) To be fair, I think I'd just use the Everone is Awesome set parts + City interstellar Spaceship if I wanted some rainbow trail display, and even brand new from LEGO.com at full price that would total at "just" €55 , and then you still get a ton of figure parts and hair pieces to go with it. But I can understand this set was mainly meant to draw in people from this Pharrell fanbase to LEGO as their first set, as has been quite clear with many of those recent "AFOL" oriented licenses (Icons/IDEAS mainly), or display models (many of reallife objects) Edited June 5 by TeriXeri
Lion King Posted June 5 So all of those heads are new, right? Not eer reused from other licensed themes, such as Harry Potter, Star Wars, Marvel, DC? I feel like that those head designs could explain why the price tag is high. Spaceship is simple and small, which it should be $20. I totally get that there is a licensing fee Lego shoudl pay but I will NOT buy that. I agree with TeriXeri that it will lure Pharrell fan over to Lego shelves. Stereo Posted June 5 Maybe the spaceship having a simple design makes it look smaller on its own, it's similar dimensions to the Creator shuttle which was $40 several years ago. Same as the recent women's soccer set I expect having a lot of minifig parts raises the price, I know that one went on sale direct from Lego.

Wait are you talking about soccer table set, right? If so, then I agree with you. But it’s a different story - this spaceship set is licensed.
Space78 Posted June 6 It would probably make the most sense to think of this set as a "movie tie-in" set rather than a space set. Since the Pharrell Williams biopic is a Lego anmation movie, it was a forgone conclusion that there would be one (or maybe more) movie themed sets.
Space Coyote Posted June 6 The only thing I like about that Williams set is the black space helmets. The frame with the heads feels half-baked, it all does especially for the price.

If people like the movie than potentially people will overlook the price of the spaceship. 2 hours ago, Lion King said: Wait are you talking about soccer table set, right? When Brickclicker first announced that there will be a large black spaceship, he said that it will be unlicensed. I heard Pharrell Williams will be collaborating with Lego for an upcoming movie.,

I don't know if Lego still needs a license. The ship is fairly small and the around size of the Blacktron Cruiser. The description of this being a 'big black ship' is wrong. Agreed, I'm surprised this even got described as a space set to start with.
MonkeyJay Posted June 6 (edited) The craft's shape is ok, but the technic looks lame. It's designed for Pharrell's fans, not for Lego fans. I'm itching to make a MOC of this space ship lol And I agree it's a licensed set, not a space set. Edited June 6 by MonkeyJay

Yes, I'd be surprised if he doesn't get a percentage of the sales of the sets just to use his name.

I know all of that, but it's not really what I asked. Everyone knows 'who let the dogs' out, no-one is buying a 'Ba-ha men' spaceship set. Of course Pharrell is much bigger than that band ever was but the principal stands, how many of the people who like Pharrell are dedicated enough to buy an over a hundred dollar display piece is the question. Especially as the set isn't really related to any of his music

Especially as the set isn't really related to any of his music That last part remains to be seen, it will likely be related to things going on in the movie or possibly new songs being made for it. It's not gonna be for me, like so many I had hoped for the focus to be with the spaceship, and for its price being significantly bigger and less basic. Especially as the set isn't really related to any of his music We'll have to see. Lego released portraits of Elvis and the Beatles. Did they sell well among fans of those music artists? There's a strong chance that I would not buy it if I were a fan of Pharrell. My brother likes Star Wars but hasn't bought any Star Wars sets. Well it is obviously not an inhouse Set but using an IP - also it isn´t like Lego decided they would want to make an Pharell Williams Film but they were asked - so Lego has a part in the Production of the Movie but isn´t producing it - you could say they are the Licensing Partner for the Video and Pharell and/or the Movie Company the Licensing Partner for the Sets. RichardGoring Posted June 7 (edited) The trailer for the movie has released and I can't see the spaceship in it anywhere. There is a very brief glimpse of him at 1:57 in the trailer, in a space suit in space, but the suit is white, not Black, and looks close to a standard City space suit. Also, the dialogue feels really flat and monotone - especially Pharrell. The LEGO stuff looks good. The music is great. But this feels like it will be a really dull experience between all the songs!
