I'm on the way with one alt-model for the 42175 Volvo Set. We rebuilt it into a Mercedes Atego Camper with air-pumped stairs, foldable sunroof and a liftable platform in the back to carry the quad-bike. The model has also pendulum axle between the drivers cab and living cab and many equipment included. Funny easteregg-thing is that the model uses exactly 2024 parts from the 42175 inventory, so I decided to share a pic here in the 2024 corner.

Does anyone know when the McLaren P1 will be released to the wider retailers? Not just the Lego shop?

Asking from Australia

I think the previous supercars had a 2 month exclusivity to the Lego shop, so it should be available more widely by the end of September.

In The Netherlands I see 1st of September as the date most webshops will send it.

In the last page of Lego Technic magazine, which has a wrecking ball set, there is a sneak peak picture of the next magazine set for which should be released this November:

What a weird... Creature

It reminds me a bit of 8650. Also, I don't really get why the wheels protrude from the tires..

This is cute! Reminds me a little of some of the 90s/00s Technic sets I grew up with, which often had simple builds using flex hose or flex axles for shaping. I'm generally glad that modern Technic has mostly shifted to builds with more coverage in the form of panels, but for a cheap magazine promo like this the classic style is still pretty great!

In other magazine news, seems to be confirmed that the heavy-lift helicopter has Bright Green as its accent colour (using parts that are otherwise unique to the Kawasaki Ninja)

Actually that color first appeared in the 2015 24h racer, and later in the zetros, so the Kawasaki is it's third appearance. Also, what heavy lift helicopter are we talking about?

NZ Brickstore.nz has it available now at 15% off, so I’m guessing AU retailers must have it pretty soon.

The one from the LEGO Technic magazine issue Nr.2. Btw. the included 7L beam is also not red, but reddish orange, which is pretty cool.
Also here is the name of the Model Designer of this helicopter. She's from Cyprus and used to design construction toys for Engino before. I'm curious if she also designed any of the 2024 retail Technic sets or just this small paper bag and 31149.
Here's a clearer instruction sheet of the model: 412402_LEGO-Technic.pdf

Issue Nr. 3 will come out October 25th, at least here in Germany. Looks pretty good for it's size. Will probably have the set nr. 412403.

Here's my try on reverse engineering it. Still missing 5 pcs. I take it back that it looks good. It's hideous!

In Hungary the 2nd issue with the heavy lift helicopter will be released on the 27th September. I thought the release date would be the same worldwide.

So this is it? Really? 2024 technic lineup has got to be one of the worst ever. I feel like we didn't actually get any technic sets except for Truck+Digger.

Lego needs to do some soul searching, cars might sell well now, but long term I don't think it's a good strategy.

I think it was one of the best ones, and about "real technic" sets, you shouldn't forget about the space lineup. The yacht, g500 and lrv were also interesting sets. Only disappointments were the supercar and Porsche.

Don't see any issues with line-up this year, there's even pneumatics.

42175 is the only good set this year if you ask me. The bulldozer is tiny and dull, and 42163 is a contender for worst Technic set ever. Meanwhile, the space sets are pretty but ultimately boring, and the sheer amount of cars has diluted the definition of Technic to critical levels.

Add to all that the elimination of B-models, and this theme is in serious danger of losing my interest. Creator and Animal Crossing are looking like much better prospects.

EDIT: On the bright side, it's great to see more women on the Technic design team.

Maybe not the only but one of the best this year. Varity of different parts in this set is very great, thats why I was so keen for a B-model of it.
