Mr. Hallcroft Py continues to tell Herlock Sholmes and Dr. Sonwat his story:

800x464.jpg

Elventree: “Easterhazy, Easterbunny & Santa?
I know them. They can’t be trusted.
What did they offer you as a salary?”

Mr. Py: “Three dubloons per week plus an extra Gwuinee every fortnight.”

Elventree: “Puh! Those misers. Just what I would expect from them. They are ripping you off!”

Mr. Py: “I thought that was pretty decent.”

Elventree: “Decent? For a bright young accountant like you are?
Listen, young man, the 'Fellowship of the Greybeards' (FotG) are offering you twice as much.
And a pet dog after a month to compensate for the extra Gwuinee.”

800x764.jpg

Mr. Py: “Wow. That is impressive. I will go to EE&S and cancel my contract.”

Elventree: “What? Talk to them again after they insulted you when they offered you such a pittance for a salary?”

Mr. Py: “But what shall I do then?”

Elventree: “The best way to pay them back is to ignore them completely and never show up.”

Mr. Py (to Sholmes): “And that is just what I did.”
“But my new job with FotG was strange.”
800x600.jpg

Sholmes: “Why was that?”

800x523.jpg

Mr. Py: “ When I arrived at the office on my first day, there was only Mr. Elventree and a secretary Miss Patricia Sevenfish,
who was working there on a part-time arrangement.
Mr. Elventree gave me a task that was not too exciting: I had to list all of the trade routes between Corrington and Eslandola.
That took me quite a while.
Then in the afternoon, after Miss Sevenfish had gone home Mr. Elventree approached me again …”

800x585.jpg

Elventree: “Mr. Py, excuse me, but would you mind being painted?”

Mr. Py: “Painted? Why?”

Elventree: “Well, this seems to be a matter of the heart. Before she left Miss Sevenfish told me that she has developed a liking for you. She would like to have a painting of you to look at when you are not around.”

Mr. Py: “That is surprising. I am flattered.”

Elventree: “And, do you agree?”

Mr. Py: “Yes, I think I have also started to like Miss Sevenfish.”

Elventree: “Very well then. I will do the painting myself. Just keep sitting there.”

800x550.jpg

Mr. Py (to Sholmes): “And after he had completed the painting – he was amazingly fast – I was finally allowed to go home, still feeling a bit confused about everything.”

Sholmes: “What a strange first day on the new job!”
800x577.jpg

Hallcroft Py: “The next few days were even stranger. There was no one in the office but Miss Sevenfish – who was obviously quite shy and would hardly talk to me – and myself.
And I got my tasks via notes on my desk.
Also, it was strange to have a painting of myself on the wall."

800x487.jpg

"This went on for the next few days. Then came the day when I was supposed to start my job at EE&S.

Spoiler

EE&S = Easterhazy, Easterbunny & Santa

I really did not feel good about not having gotten back to them.
Then things got worse yesterday.”

Dr. Sonwat: “What happened?”

Hallcroft Py: “When I arrived at the office, it was closed. There was a note on the door saying ‘The Fellowship of the Greybeards’ has been dissolved

400x261.jpg

Hallcroft Py: “Now I was really worried. And this is why I came to you.”

Sholmes: “To find out how you can retrieve your outstanding salary payments?”

Hallcroft Py: “No, to find Patricia Sevenfish. I really like her, and I fear something terrible has happened to her.”

800x600.jpg

Dr. Sonwat: “We will have to get to Pontelli as fast as possible.

Hallcroft Py: “That will be no problem. I have taken a ball-hover to get here.

Spoiler

ball-hover = Eslandolean balloon (invented by Alberto da Pontelli & his assistant George)

They are still waiting for me and would be happy to take you to Pontelli.”

An exciting and mysterious continuation of the story. Elventree probably drew a picture of Hallcroft Py so he could later make a mask of him.

Do you have a link to the ball hover story by Alberto da Pontelli & his assistant George?

Quite a mysterious case! Will Hallcroft Py and Patricia Sevenfish ever find love? What happened to the greybeards? Why the painting and where did the map go? What will they find in Pontelli?

Looking forward to the next chapter :pir-huzzah2:

That's quite the mug shot on the wall there :pir-laugh:  I must say, I didn't expect Patricia Sevenfish to be the draw for continuing the story.  I'm looking forward to seeing what this ball-hover trip will be like!

I will include the links in the next chapter.

The ballhover was invented 7 years ago:

Good questions. I think, the map is not important :pir_laugh2:

You were not fascinated by Patricia Sevenfish?  Such a great name... :pir-grin:
