Too bad the new panel doesn't have connection points to the 3x5 bow. Something like an downward-facing axlehole in the corner, or flip-flop style hole arrangement, would have made the part more versatile.

Isn't it fairly easy to mount a pin-axle connector (need to look up the exact name) which yields the same result?

Indeed, that could have been useful.

Are you saying it could be connected downwards from the inside? That indeed seems plausible, with various types of connectors, because the wall is thin, so there's fair amount of space inside!

Yeah, I think so. Not sure, but likely.

I didn't think about connecting through the inside of the panel, good find.

However, since all of the 3x5 beam's holes are covered, you can only connect them via the undreside, which means the construction still sticks out at the bottom. So you can't connect two 3x5 half-beams between two of those panels. That's a shame.

Hmm strange they didn't add connection points... an axle hole on the tip and both in the middle of the long and the short side a pin hole would have been nice...

I am already waiting for a particular B-Model :D

True, but that's just one quite special use case, though more similar ones will probably emerge, such as sandwiching 3x5 full beams, or the recent 2x3x5 curved panel from the Ferrari in between two of these.

Regarding the axle hole in the corner, I wonder which side gets it (if any)! Or even better, I have been wondering about such part design in general, if it would be possible to put two axle holes from both directions in the same amount of space. I have seen experimental parts with beams having pinholes from both sides in the same position (so not alternating), but that was probably too weak for a hole beam, removing too much material. So I wondered if it could work with axle holes (less material removed), especially if that's just in a single position in a bigger part. I think it would be doable with this one, though don't believe they actually did it.

don't use this picture; @sirslayer already made iron volture from same cartoon; don't tempt him

Taking a deeper look at this new corner-panel, we can clearly see that there are straight pinholes instead perpendicular holes, meaning there is no connection (and maybe no need for that) to the bottom. I wonder If the bottom fits regular 3x5 shape. If so, the panel fits all bows to all sides.

This part in yellow suggests me it will be very useful to shape excavators' counterweights :moar:

I thought the same. This part is very useful. Imagine a hovercraft where all the corners are made with this new part. This part has a lot of potential filling gaps.

The best Lego mechanisms always are in the planes and helicopters IMO, it looks like a great set with the colors I like and with 3 small red flipflop beams, not bad at all.

Indeed this is cooler than I expected, and it's good to see the new flip-flop beams being used in more and more models.

That propellor mechanism really looks like a redeeming feature on this model! I built some old helicopter set with a similar mechanism a while back, but that '90s (I think) era design probably wouldn't be as reliable as this nice new one!

Like this? I want make this as alternative!

Anyway, it looks very smooth surface.

Great detailed review, appreciate all the details you mention like RacingBrick does.

I gotta say, the internal mechanisms are pretty interesting on this plane, especially the bi-stable spring and the trigger mechanism.

Some things that I really wish they would've added are a flywheel to keep the props spinning longer, and joystick flight controls. Hopefully someone mods them in

I'd be surprised, the fuselage is quite narrow and seems pretty packed already, he even mentions that in the video.

Maybe with approach used on actual (older) aircraft, i.e. control cables. There should be little space for few strings and pulleys.

This is modelled after the DeHavilland Dash 8 right? Just looking at possible b-model mocs, this set could maybe be turned into a DeHavilland DHC-515.

I think this is the most interesting set in this March wave among the usual licensed car borefest. The lever mechanism for the propellers is quite cool, and the inclusion of "water" is a nice touch. However, it's way too covered in panels to admire the nice mechanism, two and a half functions for a 1100 piece set is a letdown (if you can call the spring loaded door a fucntion, and why is there no mechanism for the ailerons or the rear fin?) and the removal of B models even in unlicensed sets is a deal breaker for me. The 10 euro sets paradoxically still remain the highlight of 2023, the play value per euro on those is still great.
