But it looks like the operation of this is a Technic black gear which sticks out on the right side of the car.

Worth the trade off imo. Blends in enough

i don't get it why lego complicates things all the time. same people want a batcave, some want an art sets, display pieces for living room like a giant batman symbol. but is there anyone who wants both in one? I don't think so. Lego designed something which is overpriced for both kind of people...

the set also appears to have some light functions. The video lego posted on instagram looks like there is at least one, possibly more, light bricks above where the suit display is. This is at least something and from the quick video the light brick provides some nice spooky not-too-bright light to the batcave (which I am a fan of)

comparing this to the 2016 60’s batcave…yikes. That one had all exclusive minifigures, and a detailed build that was accurate to its source. Also crazy that this set based on returns doesn’t even have the batskiboat from that movie lol.

Seeing the new cowl version in the same set as the 89 cowl is TERRIBLE. They don’t look even slightly similar. Would it really have been so difficult for lego to make a new mold where it’s the 89 cowl just without the rubber cape? Rivendell got tons of new molds, this gets 1 and it’s not even made for this set lol.

So I guess it does include the batmobile, cool. The inclusion of the 2 suits are odd. The one with the new molded helmet piece is obviously Batman Returns, but the other one uses the '89 cowl yet has the Returns symbol....and the detailing on the abs are different too. What a weird set

So one of the features is to change the image on the Batcomputer from Catwoman to a Penguin that actually looks like Devito’s. Lol.

Not enough contrast for the shadowbox idea anyway.

Random question: Why does Catwoman have a hole in her head?

You don’t fall ten stories without suffering some sort of injury. :p

That makes sense. Except for how she's still happily swinging her whip! For some reason I cannot link the picture from the StoneWars page, but there's definitely a hole on top of the minifigure's head.

Oh yeah. That’s because she’s using the Black Panther headpiece which has a hole in the top.

Lego seems to have put the batcave up on shop at home for $400 not $450 even tho in the press kits for it they list it at $450

Seems like a missed opportunity. When this inevitably gets discounted by 40% they could have made more money by seeing it at $450 to start with. It's anyone going to buy it for either $400 or $450?

I might be tempted at 40% off because of the batmobile and the bricks for MOCs.

Ah yes armchair economics on eurobricks

Obviously we will have to wait and see how this sells, but this set to me feels very emblematic of a problem Lego has been running into with a lot of their new sets for adults, that being how unnecessarily expensive the sets are made by extraneous elements made to make the sets look more like high-end collectibles or something of that sort. The Star Wars dioramas all could be way cheaper without their base sections, same for other similar sets from other themes. This set admittedly does feel way more built around the idea of it being a big box, but I cannot help but suspect that most would have been happier with a similar Batcave for half the price of this one.

For those that have a good eye for repeated minifigure parts, what are the exclusive/reused parts on the figures?

Wondering how many could be recreated from other sets and which sets they are in?

Catwoman and Penguin are the obvious exclusive ones. Is second Batman using same torso as Batman in polybag and just new cowl (which will likely be in future sets the difference?) exclusive?

I like this set a lot better closed. I don't care for it in the open position. The Batmobile looks great, but outside of Bruce and Alfred the figs are TERRIBLE (why does Schreck look like Scrooge? Why is Catwoman Black Panther and not TLBM Catwoman?). I will grant them that getting Devito's Penguin right is nigh-on impossible, but it looks so strange without the hair.

It's such a weird mixed bag. The piece count and price are obviously wildly inflated by the need to make it a shadow box, but it looks better in that position, so I don't know. It's way too big when open to display well, and the Batmobile platform doesn't look great (it should extend and float out in the open/rotate). Will hold final judgement until I see the light elements but yeah, this will be a pickup when it goes on sale.

Yeah I think LEGO are definitly trying to appeal to people outside the usual AFOL fanbase.

The issue is that sometimes they end up chasing gimmicks. Instead of designing a Batcave, it feels like they designed a shadow box first and then tried to cram a Batcave inside it.

Kinda different take on batcave, but I would definitely get rid of front panel and made bigger interior.

These figures are kinda horrible, especially Schreck and Catwoman.

I will definitely wait for sale.

I agree with others … wait to see how much this ends up being in a sale … build it without the front. Build the batskiboat and buy a custom Catwoman that looks so much better

This would be cool .... at $200 or $250 but hard to stomach at $400, especially when by my rough estimate fully 2000 of the 3900 bricks are used to build the box.

What a waste. 400 USD for a black box you can't display when opened because it takes up too much room and when opened doesn't resemble the Batcave of said movie because it lacks the boat among several things.
