How many of you bought Avengers Tower this weekend?

I haven't been able to bring myself to get it yet. I'm excited to buy it, but I already got the 2 GWPs last weekend, and the Black Panther Taxi set is so dull that that hasn't pushed me into the buy camp. I'll probably wait until the next double VIP weekend and some decent GWPs before picking it up.

I did! I love the taxi set, though. That's why I ordered the set right away :sweet:

Mitch

Sandman will use the face piece from the buildable figures (cap, ant man etc).

So at long last, LEGO are finally forcing me to buy one of these things... as long as it's only a faceplate and not the same as those accursed figures I'll forgive it

BRING BACK THE BUILDABLE LEGO FIGURES, BE GONE WITH THE LEGO BUILDABLE FIGURES!!!

Same here. I hate the piece too, just a dumb molded slab meant to be printed. I have a crippling fear that any future bionicle theme would think it's a good excuse for the masks.

While I do want this subtheme of buildable lego figures to stop (I've been ok with 3: Venom, because he can grow to large sizes sometimes, Ant-Man, for the same reason, and Spider-Man, purely because of how cool he looks on @Ransom Fern's hulkbuster.), I don't want them to put enlarged characters in sets as brick-built minifigs. For something like Sandman from NWH, I'd prefer a display that looks more like the shifting mass of the movie character than a giant minifig. They're funny, but don't display well IMO.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I understood that it only uses the face piece, Tandnbricks didn't talk about the body (which I think will be different)

I might not have said that right. I wasn't talking about this specific sandman, I was using him as an example for large figures I wouldn't want as brick-built minifigs like 2016's giant man. We know this specific one won't be that as it's got the buildible figure (recent style) head mold, but I also assume it won't be humanoid.

Ah ok, well I agree with you!

(But I have to admit that I would like the “buildable figure” format for the X-men Sentinels)

-Coughs loudly- :p

The above set was $29.99 featuring three figures (Spider-man, Mysterio, Fireman) and a brick-built Molten Man using a head piece similar to what the buildable figures use.

This time it's $34.99 (Inflation/Price gouging) and will feature three figures (Spider-man, Electro, Lizard) and a brick-built Sandman using the head piece that the buildable figures use.

This way we have a Sandman that is close to the scale of the NWH set we already have - which is likely the main reason we're getting an additional set so people can finally replicate the below image. As such I understand why they would have used the buildable figure head piece as the shaping is close to how Sandman's face is here.

Same. The flat head would actually work pretty well too for a Sentinel.

and with that price you could build a small army quite easily

I wouldnt be against this but I much prefer the maxifigs (eg Harry Potter/Pirate/Upscaled Figure). Im attempting to do a figure like that for Sandman. For Sentinels that type could work for a Master Mold then a smaller build for standard Sentinel (like blackbird one) could be its children

If its this then I guess its the piece with the nose they'll use

Master Mold will be the D2C of 2024 :-D

unfortunately the maxifig model seems abandoned :-/

That Ant Man from Civil War was fantastic!

Patiently waiting for January 2024 Marvel set pictures. I hope they make a new Venom design.

There are so many venom designs they could do that I would love, even putting aside the symbiote suit (Why does everyone but peter get a lego fig of them venomized? This wave's especially cruel, both his archenemies get them...)

Movie Venom- white lines, no spider-symbol

McFarlene venom- more musculature, blue lines for muscles instead of gray

Spider-Man PS5- Bigfig

Agent Venom

Cates run Venom has a couple interesting designs too, like King in Black, even if the main ones aren't big departures from what we've been getting.

Hmm. If they integrate it well, I suppose the head could work, but I'm still pretty skeptical. I think it'll look really unnatural on a brick-built sandman, and we've seen solid brick-built faces around the scale that head's at.

Why do you think the maxifigure has been abandoned?

It debuted in 76051 Super Hero Airport Battle March 2016. It reappeared again 4 years later in 75967: Forbidden Forest: Umbridge's Encounter in July 2020.

You also see it larger in sets like this:

While it definitely works, it's insane that we're getting a Sandman action figure with minifigs before a Sentinel action figure with minifigs.

Precisely for this reason: it debuted in 2016 and has never returned. We're talking about Marvel obviously, I think 7 years is enough time to say it's been abandoned...

1) I can‘t think of a Marvel character that absolutely would‘ve needed a „maxifig“ in the last seven years.

2) As has been pointed out, “maxifigs“ still exist in other themes.

3) Didn‘t you say the exact same thing about bigfigs?  And now we got two this year

1) Ant Man?

2) other themes have other characteristics, we're talking about Marvel here, right?

3) no

3) no

1) The set‘s supposed to be a constraction figure though, not a minifig-compatible set. A maxifig only would‘ve worked if there was some other stuff included (which I think we all would‘ve preferred, but I digress).

2) Well yes, but it goes to show that this style of figure still hasn‘t gone the way of the dodo  They could very easily bring it back for Marvel too. The constraction-style figures are a separate thing, not a replacement.

3) Really? I may misremember things, but I thought it was you who was worried they’d never do bigfigs again since the last one got released in 2021, before the Thanos bigfig was then confirmed to return :classic:

1) If we want to be picky, your previous statement is wrong, as no character would "absolutely need maxifigs", Lego has many options to represent large characters, it did so with the latest Ant Man (which is not a compatible minifigure set ACCORDING TO YOU, but still contains a microfigure and is for all intents and purposes the official movie set -something the buildable figures never were), and did so with Molten Man and Arishem.

2) We connect to point one, the buildable Ant Man has in fact replaced the Quantumania set, Arishem and Molten Man are even in a playset, it seems clear to me that when faced with the choice, Lego has always opted for non-maxifig solutions. Of course you can always go back, but this is obvious, it applies to everything. At the moment however, given that we haven't seen any for 7/8 years, I think I can say that Lego Marvel has abandoned that path.

3) And we connect to point two: of course I have doubts and fears if I no longer see a format that I love, just as I am afraid that Lego will put fewer and fewer main villains in film sets, as it did for the three films this year, but I'm not stating anything. If in 7/8 years we no longer get the main villains, then maybe I'll claim that Lego abandoned them. In my language it's a simple concept, maybe the translation complicates things, I don't know... Furthermore, I was never really worried, because Falcon had confirmed that the bigfigures were not finished. So yes, you definitely remember wrong…

Well, neither Arishem nor Molten Man would have made sense as maxifigs. Arishem is way larger than that and doesn’t have human limb proportions, so a maxifig would’ve looked pretty silly. Same goes for Molten Man

Beh, né Arishem né Molten Man avrebbero avuto senso come maxifigs.

I had no doubt that you would give such an answer. Where I come from they say: climbing on mirrors :-D

However no problem, in my opinion the format is not used by Lego Marvel, in your opinion it is still widely used by Lego Marvel. I think we can both be happy ^_^

I pulled the trigger to get the Taxi and other GWPs, wasn't really sure I'd like it, but it's a nice Taxi ! Build it today after receiving (still waiting on the tower) and it's nice, Put it next to the one from Daily Bugle and they go great together, plus the fact than this one got printed brick, tile and slope instead of stickers on the previous one (with design coherency nonetheless).

No, my point was just because they haven’t been used in a while doesn’t mean that maxifigs are done for  They’re brickbuilt and don’t require any special pieces, so there’s nothing to prevent them from coming back, if they’re required. Wouldn’t be surprised if an upcoming Infinity Saga set included a Giant-man maxifig :shrug_oh_well:

I received my order today, as well. Just have to pick it up at my neighbour's :innocent:
