Welcome back to the Winter Village! To celebrate our return there is a festival to enjoy, We need you, Eurobricks members, to populate this festival with attractions, stalls and larger than life characters. With three categories to choose from, everyone has a chance to enter.

Category A: Festival Attraction

The festival has to have some big draws to attract visitors: Fairground rides, walkthrough attractions, contest grounds, games and more to excite and entertain. This category has to fit on a 32x32 baseplate, and of course match with the winter village theme.

Category B: Festival Stall

Once everyone has had their fun on the big attractions (or if the line is too long!) they will want to check out something smaller. A festival stall could be selling hot food, warm beverages or any number of lovely gift ideas for visitors to take home for the big day. Of course, a festival also needs sideshows, meet and greets and Photo Ops to make some great memories. This category has to fit on a 16x16 baseplate, it can be just one stall, or a few market booths or even a fenced space for whatever Winter or Holiday activity you want to see.

Category C: Entertainer

Create a wandering entertainer (or pair) who is in the market to spread fun. A little different to the Meet and Greet, as these guys and gals are doing magic tricks and handing out treats, spreading wonder in the crowd and adding to the atmosphere. So, nope, you can't just enter a lone Santa figure or an Elf (off the shelf!), there has to be some character there. This is the smallest, on a 6x6 base, at least one minfigure (max three: Entertainer, assistant and observer). Theme it to the event but don't let that limit you (Holiday Ninja anyone?).

Enjoy visiting our Winter Festival! The full contest rules are below:

The Prizes

Category A and Category B are competing for 10199 Winter Village Toy Shop (2011) and 10222 Winter Village Post Office (2012). Both kindly donated by a member who wishes to remain anonymous. There will also be tags up for grabs.

Entry Rules

You can join Eurobricks any time to post an entry.

One entry per category per member and no recycling of old creations or MOCs already posted unless you make some significant changes

All creations must be new for this contest, recycling elements of past builds is allowed but must not make up a large percentage of the entry.

All work must be your own - plagiarizing MOCs will result in immediate disqualification.

You may continually modify and update your entries and entry posts right up until the deadline.

No competitor brand bricks. However, accessories for Minifigures, custom decals/stickers are welcome

Digital entries will be allowed, please stick to the footprint limits, parts in physically existing colours only and the limitations of physics!

Post up to 3 pictures in a thread in LEGO Town that must start with the title Winter Festival [Cat - ] with the chosen category. This is to help with collecting entries for voting and any thread missing this may not be included in the voting threads.

Other Notes and FAQs

By entering, you consent to Eurobricks reposting your entry on Eurobricks' social media channels, crediting you as builder

Only Category C has a minifig limit

Some entries may get put on the front page or featured on Eurobricks Instagram. This will be to advertise the contest, not to promote any one entrant or MOC

There is no upper height limit to a build, though keep in mind a build has to be able to stand without toppling over.

If you see any issues with entries, please contact the Staff Team. Not the builder themselves, of course, a friendly reminder to fix a thread title is fine.

What a fun theme for this year’s contest! Will there be prizes or just bragging rights? Either way, I look forward to seeing the festival come together!

Another question: For our attraction, would it be ok to mix the holiday theme with another theme, similar to how A Nightmare Before Christmas mixed Christmas and Halloween, or would that take away from the spirit of the festival too much?

I think it would be best to keep things close to the holiday/seasonal theme as it is Winter Village so maybe a low percentage of Spook (in this example anyway). I know a number of people who would prefer to meet Jack and Sally instead of Santa, so a slightly hijacked Grotto/sled would work pretty well but it needs to be like, at least 70% seasonal for a rule of thumb.

As for Prizes, we do have them, but I need to match them to the right category before we reveal them.

Hype hype!

Good to finally hear what you're after. There goes more than half my ideas :D I'll see what I can come up with, and if I have the time to follow through on a build.

Thanks for clarifying. What are the rules on overhang? For example, if we build a Ferris wheel, does the whole wheel need to fit inside 32x32 or just the base?

Overhang has always been within reason: A few leaves on a tree can overhang, a sign or flag leaning off a structure can overhang. A Ferris Wheel with a 32x32 footing would be enormous, but a little one within the area of 32x32 wouldn't reach out too far.

So, for a solid rule, a 4 stud overhang is allowable, as long as it is not continuous on the 32x32 footprint. So no boosting up ground height by a brick and then making a four stud overhang across all edges, but a coaster track corner can be over an edge as it curves out and back in. Or a Carousel can be running over one corner slightly, but not all corners.

Great entries everyone! :sweet: Too bad there weren't more entrants.

So.... Any update on the status of this contest?

Yikes, is it over already?!  Somehow I had end of Jan in my head.  Was fun to browse through the entries though I have to agree, too bad there weren't more!

Who knows. We never even got a message saying that it's closed for entries and the rules don't mention any deadline, so for all we know, you can still enter.
