LEGO IDEAS teams up with Dungeons And Dragons!

Recommended Posts

I'm not really familiar with D&D, but I'm really excited about the prospect of a new dragon. I hope whatever the resulting set is includes tons of great new parts for castle building.

Hmm. Interesting thing. I do hope it generates some exciting submissions as I love to see a god Fantasy build.

I think this thread will have more audience in Historic Themes, as that is the home to the swords and the sorcery.

The final five are up and, for me, they appear to have left some cracking models out of the final, which is a shame. Obviously, I couldn't do what any of these creators has done, but there's really only one that is vaguely appealing. The LEGO designers will almost certainly bring the winner to life a lot more, but still disappointed not to see others in the final vote.

What a really disappointing choice for the ones you can vote on. I imagine the big one will win as it will appeal to LEGO Castle fans who are used to paying large sums for such builds, whereas the other ones are more D&D. Assuming most votes will come from LEGO fans.

I thought that there were some really well done and much smaller designs but they have all been ignored. I cannot really see D&D fans buying a large static display model as it cannot really interact with the game. Having some smaller builds that could be used in the game and also inspire the players to build their own custom versions when doing their own storylines could have been a nice idea.

Zero interested in D&D but that Dragon's Keep looks great, would definitely buy it if it wins.

Me too. It should be à must have for Castle fans.

The choice was obvious, I didn't have to think. However, is it really possible for LEGO to choose Dragon's Keep model after "all" these recent Castle theme-inspired sets? Wouldn't it be redundant to release such a set after the references 10305, 40567, 31120, 21325? for Marketing reasons in order to diversify its offer, shouldn't they rather choose the model namely "The Monster Manual" which is just as emblematic of D&D?

Winner announced! Dragon's Keep: Journey's End

While I'm not a huge D&D fan I am a castle fan and this thing should look great.

Now the question is, how much will it cost? What will a Wizards of the Coast/D&D tax look like? Will stay below $400?

Holy cow! I must say, I’m surprised, but I’m certainly not disappointed. It’s a great looking entry and I’m sure TLG will do good things with the translation to the official set.

Can’t wait to see how this shapes up.

This is absolutely fantastic news! This model has basically everything a castle fan can wish for, a masonry wall and tower, a half-timbered building, some landscaping. I personally don't care about the dragon, but whatever.

The big question in my eyes is about the minifigs. If they cheap out and just put in some Black Falcons/Lion Knights and a pirate the set will not be nearly as attractive for me. I really hope they make the effort of making some interesting and unique minifigs.

There is a 0% chance that we will see Black Falcons/Lion Knights. I am not a DnD fan, so I don't know what to expect; but I know what not to expect.

Really hoping they plus this up with some minifigures/accessories that are authentically recognizeable as D&D.  I like what I see in the fan made set, it just doesn't scream D&D outside of the Beholder in the cave area.

I get that the minifigs in the fan display can only really be represented with parts that already exist in Lego, I just hope the real set will pick some D&D specific races and make em look authentic.

The best of the four won, although I imagine this will be another very expensive castle set so I'll probably skip it.

I will skip it only if it is not expensive - the fan model is 3,000 pieces.

Lego,

Please do not give this set the foosball table treatment!

Yeah, it looks like a great design and generic enough not to be obviously D&D. I'm at the point where I have enough bricks so buying large sets with even more (basic) bricks is not really worth it for me. I'll still built it or a mod of it from existing parts and save the £300 or whatever it will be. Better still if any unique parts or minifig parts appear on PAB.

I look forward to the finished design.  I hope we can get a variety of generic figs that fit in with the castle theme.  I also hope that they might have some generic looking heraldry and shields.

As long as LEGO doesn't go crazy and turn it into a giant Tiamat with a tiny castle set (meaning where dragon is like 70-80% of the focus), but I'm fairly optimistic.

What do you expect the final set to look like? I think Lego will make it smaller, the color of the Beholder could be blue, heck make him Xanathar. Also, the red dragon is needed. A Dragonborn would be fun too, what if Drizzt is included with his panther? So much potential. Oh, what if the tower is made into Castle Ravenloft?

The set needs DnD lore and references.

Agree but it will come down to who they put in charge of the set and what they can use as parts.
