[CATC] Edie and Wicker Witches

Recommended Posts

Edie and the Wicker Witches is my new theme idea. The wicker witches are a group of witches that live in a wicker huts and use witchcraft to keep to the powers of magic from falling into villainous hands. Edie Brightland is their newest initiate and the hero of this theme. I wanted to make the theme that would've kept my sister interested in lego, witches fighting vampires is the simplified premise. A 'girl' thme with mostly female characters but more aimed at 'tomboys' with no minidolls and a less over the top colour scheme. Now I did accidently mis read the rules so I've made 3 sets not 2 but I'll omit the boat from this entry to keep it at 2 sets. ( please excuse my poor photography, I'm used to mostly sharing digital mocs , but I wanted to build something real for this contest.)

Set 1: Black Wicker Cottage - Sinewbat assault £80 - 850-ish parts

Edie and Vanessa have gone out to seek the witches of the fire swamp in the black wicker cottage. Hoping to meet the vampire pyrowitch Vix to seek her help against the the vampiric warlord Duchess Valeria's dark army. But they have been followed by her forces led Baron Vlod upon the terrifying sinewbat.

257 part in the roof alone! (It's definitely the most parts dense part of the set but I liked the look so I went for it), speaking of the roof you can take it off ( it is only held in by gravity) to access the witches cottage's interior, a magic research lab with all sorts of mystic niknaks.

fish for lava carp in the fire pool! It also include transparent stands for the witches broomsticks, the sinewbat and the Vamp-flier. i was designed to work the together with one of the 310 sets 9 the one I deicide to omit from my submission. But the idea is that the witches can commandeer the magisail and then park the boat under the cottage.

set 2: Frostfiend attack on the queen of magic - 97 parts ( but  the minifigures take up 4,4,5 and 7 parts respectively so it's only 77 if we exclude those parts which I think was said to be the rule)

The Vampire warlord Dutchess valeria seeks to claim the crown of magic form the queen of magic! to that end she has made her vampirc cyromancer underling connjure up a fearsome snowman called frost fiend. Edie has taken the royal staff and seek to free the queen but it won't be easy!

the set features the royal lockbox, wicker throne, and of course Frostfiend!

the ice block trap is makes up frost fiends back but can be removed, frost fiend has a rotating head, one posable arm are one ice cannon arm, that can actually 2 (with 2 clear 1x1 round bricks to serve as icy ammutiion)

See, I've seen lots of good builds for this contest (yours included ofc), but one thing I felt was missing a bit from a lot of entries was story/a realistic theme. Yours has a solid story setup and hits a marketing demographic that lego would totally buy into. It sort of reminds me of a "cooler" version of elves, and I could totally see my little sister playing with these if they were around when she was a kid. (She did not enjoy friends, and preferred ninjago)

Thanks, I wanted to try and think about  the idea of the theme overall and (why it would hypothetically exist) and not just the individual sets so I glad to see that worked out.

Great concept for a theme, and the minifigure lineup is really cool!

Thanks, I had made quite a few more that fit into the theme so I was able to pick the best of the designs for each faction, I so wanted to do a little bit of storytelling with the different variations of each characters, like you can see Edie gets more Witchy outfits as the story progresses, and someone switches sides and the vampires take the crown etc.

I gotta say, the Black Wicker Cottage looks really cozy, interior and exterior! The lore is also a nice read too

Thanks. I really wanted to used the half cylinder 1x2 bricks to give the cottage a woven look, but I only had them in black, I had use the parts from 4 forest men's hideouts just to get the bricks for the cottage  I'm glad you like it.

Love the idea and minifigs! What did you use for the armor on Vampire Sunbreaker Viggo and the Duchess Valeria figs?

Thank you

I'm assuming that you're talking about the torsos but just in case I'll go through all of it.

Helmet - Valeria : Realistic Viking ( unprinted from the Sanctum), Viggo : fantasy era troll helmet. ( Plus a tiara inserted into the helmet pinhole for the Queen version of Valeria)

Neck Attachments - Valeria: Darth Vader neck attachment, black soft cape. Viggo : none, Queen Valeria has the same as regular Valeria plus a purple shoulder armour piece ( I think it's from Vedyeo but I got them from the online pick a brick)

Torso - Valeria and Viggo : Ninjago Crystallised general torso backwards with Frightening Knight arms ( I want to use that torso ( with the corresponding legs) for a big fanastay army so I'm hoping it'll appear on the online pick a brick), Queen Valeria uses the Crystal king's torso also from Ninjago Crystallised.

Waist attachments - Valeria and Viggo : none, Queen Valeria: clone commander 2008 plastic Kama

Legs - Valeria and Viggo: crystallised general legs, Queen Valeria: Crystal king's legs.

Thanks for the thorough run down! I think the backwards torso was tripping me up in my bricklink searches. Good use of parts! Might have to incorporate them into my own factions.
