[MOC] Scarlett Viper cutter ship

Recommended Posts

blogged.png

Hi pirates!

Very recently I finished the project for another ship: the Scarlett Viper.

This time we are talking about a cutter, a fast and stable ship used in the 1700s also by privateers for racing wars, as well as as smuggling boats or to communicate between fleets of larger ships.

The cutter in question has a single mast, on which I will mount 2-3 jibs (triangular sails at the bow), 2 cages (square sails on the master) and a auric sail between boom and peak (the stern rods). She is armed with 8 light guns and 14 revolving muzzles. The deck is removable and inside there are 2 bunks for the crew and various containers. Not accessible (but visible) are the lieutenant's quarters and a couple of rooms used as a warehouse.

Estimated size:
Hull: Length 40cm x Width 12cm
Cutter: Length 68cm x Width 25cm x Height 64cm
1400+ pieces

As before, you have done great job on mast rigging with LEGO ropes. :pir-thumb:

The ship looks great, and I'm curious to see what colour for sails you will choose. Do you have any particular in mind?

Red will be quite striking!  And drive fear into enemy when they see her coming over the horizon!

But what about a figurehead?

No figurehead for this ship! I've never seen a cutter ship with it, so I go on with this rule! 😅

Unlike the other ships I've created, in this one I'd like to try to be true to reality. After all, this ship was born from a hull experiment I was doing.

Initially I was creating a brig, which was supposed to be called Scarlett Lust because of his red curvy lady on the figurehead! 😁

Aye aye, Captain!

So what about the pirates?  Errr... privateers? Have you got any ideas those?

Or am I getting too far ahead of myself?

Yeah! I'm started building this cutter!

Here's the building day 1. The bottom of the hull and some hammock for sailors.

I have to admit, I just LOVE how much better it looks in bricks compared to digital! The colours are coming to their true right this way!

And the added little details with the ropes etc! Looking forward to seeing her done!

Looks good! Lovely sails! Simple hard-paper? Yet it looks really neat and fitting!

Thank you! Sails are in 160g red cardboard.

Wow, the Sails turn it into something realistic, could not imagine such a nice curve just from the renderings! I just think black rope would have fitted the black/red color scheme even better!
