Lego Avatar 2022/3 - Rumors & Discussion

In order to increase their Avatar sets sales, Lego should make more RDA vehicules, mercenaries, weapons. I noticed people were asking a lot for this on my Instagram account dedicated to Lego Avatar.

We need more opponents/mercenaires and anonymous na'vi characters in order to creat action / mocs.

Battle packs (Na'vi & RDA) ? UCS RDA vehicules ? Exclusive polybags ?

We also need weapons like i said before, I have bought myself some Star Wars medium and long blasters to enhance my Avatar minifigures...

It’s a real shame because I feel like Lego would try and shy away from that, despite having a theme dedicated to star *wars*, but hey it makes them money I guess. Hopefully the movie boosts sales and then Lego sees there’s demand for this stuff. Their laws about military vehicles are really scuffed up, they need to sort their stuff for a clear line. The minifigs they make for the RDA don’t realistically represent any world military faction, and the vehicles, despite using military colour schemes such as grey and sand green, do not in anyway represent any vehicles used by any military. (If anyone knows a world power currently utilising a crab suit, let me know! I’ll start packing bags…)

I feel like Lego is intentionally trying to kill avatar off, like it was a bad dream that comes back to haunt them. I just hope we see more sets, specifically RDA sets. I may just get the MAKO sub to help sales or whatever. 1 may just make the difference. It probably won’t, but we can try.

…what the **** kind of sense does that make? :laugh_hard: Businesses like to make money, not sabotage themselves for absolutely no reason. Then again, [insert Twitter joke here].

Seriously though, most people like Avatar because of the colourful world and its inhabitants, so of course the sets are gonna focus on that

Yeah, I suppose. What I meant is Lego isn’t helping themselves, although I get why they choose to focus on the “good guys” and not the “bad guys”. Still, it feels like this is probably as good as it’s gonna get, 1 RDA based set for £50 and a sidebuild in a £90 set.

I totally agree with you, especially about having additional adversaries and human weapons. I think one of the biggest disappointments I had with the first wave was the fact that it came with a saw and not the gun from the movie.

If we do have a summer waves or additional sets based on the way of water in future, I hope they’ll give us at least a few more of the RDA hybrid soldiers.

By the way, is your Instagram Pandora bricks? If so, I’ve been following you, it’s a great account. If not, DM me your Instagram account and I will give you a follow.

Yes it's me and thank you for the compliment. :pir-thumb:

I agree RDA recom mercenaries would be great, I dream of Avatar "battle packs" in the same style of the Star Wars ones, RDA and Na'vi sides.

I feel a bit limited if I want to make mocs...

Battle packs would be amazing, I could see 3 navi and a dire horse, plus a little wooden catapult or something, and maybe 4 RDA mercinerys, a skell suit, and a hex bug? Theres not much revealed that could work for RDA, maybe a scaled down version of the warthog-like vehicle that appeared in concept art, games and the start of the 1st movie? It may be too big, unless we get something like the 501st battle pack set from 2020.

If they scale down a Scorpion to the size of the Samson, I could see it at less than $30, but with inflation the way it is and Lego's reluctance to make anything military related, its not likely

Lego should really considere having a clear limit between military stuff in science fiction movies (like Star Wars and Avatar for example) and military stuff in our reality.

I'd honestly hate this, lego scaling down the Samson is my biggest gripe with the theme so far, more than the egregious prices of the first wave, I just want a decent Samson now. The current one is fine, but I feel like the scale was decided by the ducted fans, which made it super small. It needs a bigger cockpit and needs to be wider, looking a bit like a pancake. The colours and designs of stickers / prints are spot on though. And also the scorpion is filled with missile pods, I'm talking missiles pods onto of missile pods on top of missile pods.....

Lego really need to get their crap together with the military stuff, they cant keep toeing the line. The osprey situation of 2020 was by far the worst thing lego has pulled in situations like this, and unfortunately the market is now thinning out with collectors buying them up from scalpers (there was a dude on eBay with like 20 lined up on his floor and they where £550 each) and it makes it pretty hard for a guy like me to get his hands on one, just to enjoy the osprey. It's my favourite aircraft and was a dream come true when it was revealed, only to be canned 10 days before launch. The Samson is kind of close, being a VTOL craft with 2 rotor pods on each side, but give me a solid lego rendition for £50 and I'd probably get 3 or 4, just because I love the vehicle.

That is exactly why I'm not buying any of them! It's not just the size but the shaping looks wrong from every angle except top down. The only reason I would get it is to use the rotor guards for Hailfire droid wheels, but that is not nearly worth $100

I wouldn't even care if they had a disclaimer on the box like "boat doesn't float", just make it clear that its not tied to current world tech or issues. Nobody else bats an eye, I mean look at the age we live in. Fortnite, Destiny 2, Overwatch 2, Dune, and plenty of other sci-fi medias use guns now. Its not a big deal. The fact that lego goes about being all safe about military is already annoying, and it is further angering to see them being horribly hypocritical.

We need a "fantasy violence" or "sci-fi violence" tag or something!

I can see fortnite getting flagged due to realistic weapons but if the weapons aren't based on actual models or are just a generic 'gun' design like the star wars sets, I think we'd all be fine.

I hope they do more sets from the first movie, I really want a Hammerhead Titanothere to complete the big animals. They could pack it in with a Sturmbeest and some mercenaries to trample over, or make It a more peaceful scene such as Grace & Jake’s first encounter. The scenery build would then be the giant tube worms. I think the existing legs made for the Black Panther rhino would work well for it in a new colour

Just a heads up, new trailer on its way. Sadly its coming out at 1:15 in the morning in the UK which sucks, but the folks across the pond will be happy. I'm personally hoping for more RDA focus, I desperately want to see the bridgehead city and the new vehicles.

Agreed, I quite like the Titanothere and would like to see it in a set.

I bought that flying mountain set just for Samson Helicopter with stand and human characters and some avatars on top. I feel kinda robbed for that price, but hey at least some avatar sets that I wish was in 2009.

Maybe I buy also mech set with Quarritch.

Next wave is just meh, I expected better balance between military vehicles and Navi animals.

Its kinda weird how lego try to make avatar sets family friendly as possible. When avatar is kinda violent.

Agreed, I felt like there was an alright balance between the RDA and Navi in the first wave as there was only 4 sets, but considering how much new tech is shown of in the trailers and on-set photos (the picador, sea dragon, sea wasp, heavy Samson, crab suit, and the MAKO subs), I think the execution of what we got (RDA wise) was less than fine. As I've said before, the crab suit and mako sub should have been swapped, with the mako accompanying the Tulkan. I'm hoping if we get a summer wave that we see a sea wasp or Samson, as I think the jet boats are a bit too close to current military vessels, unlike a VTOL quad rotor whale spotter, or a crab mech suit, or a massive mothership hydrofoil. at least the AMP suits are back, so I guess we got an extra avatar set, although I still think the cockpit looks awful.

Speaking of these sets, are people really obsessed with Pandora animals?

When first avatar came, I was 16 years old and with friends we only talked about these futuristic albeit not so out of touch helicopters.

I completely forget about this movies for few years, which is suprising because I really love Camerons work and that movie was behemoth in cinemas. But remember two things for sure, blue people and and these military vehicles.

I really hoped that Avatar sets will be gate to scifi military vehicles, but Im so wrong so far... Definitely disappointment.

We never get lego Whale as set, which is worldwide known animal,  but Pandora whale gets one. Definitely Im thrilled to buy set based on CGI animal/sarcasm off.

Well I for one am huge fan of the alien animals and I don't really care at all about the RDA vehicles and stuff. Most of it is pretty generic some-what-futuristic sci-fi. The Pandoran wildlife and fauna is what stood out the most to me and is what I think of first when Avatar comes to mind. I absolutely love the Way of Water wave and plan on getting most of the sets except the village and the Mako. The Tulkun set is by far my favorite out of all of the sets from this theme, I absolutely love the space whale design and plus we already know that it's more than just a "space whale" and will actually be a pretty important character in the movie and the franchise going forward.

I've always wanted a LEGO whale and even though it's not an Earth whale, I'm still extremely happy about it. Frankly when it comes to any theme other than Star Wars I am drawn to creatures over vehicles and even though I love mechs as a concept(I'm a huge Gundam fan), LEGO oversaturates their portfolio with mechs every year from so many themes. I will say there should have been at least one more RDA set, preferably of the Sea Dragon with some more Recoms. Who knows, maybe we’ll get another set down the road with the Sea Dragon that includes spoilers from the film but the focus of the sets --much like the films-- should be on Pandora and it's wildlife.

Well Pandora whale is pretty overpriced even for my liking.

If it was Creator earth whale set, it will cost around half.

I already see these sets bombing easily for these prices.

When I bought Samson, I did remark that Star Wars is better value for price.

But Im already planning to use that container on train flatbed. So I will have some usage at last.

JB Speilwaren has a speed build and review of the Tulkun set. He's only uploaded the German version and hasn't uploaded the English version yet so I have no idea what he's saying but at least it's our first look at the Wave of Water sets and it's the set I'm looking forward to the most. It's still expensive for what you get but I don't think it's as bad as it seems at first. The Tulkun and the crab sub are pretty substantial builds and there is more articulation in the Tulkun's tail than I previously expected. Overall I really love this set and I can't wait to get it when it releases but that said, I have $20 in VIP points thanks to Black Friday that I'm definitely going to use to bring the price down to $80 which I think is more reasonable.

Just watched the Video from jb, in short:

- Building the set was fun

- no glow in the dark elements

- crab suit is good and very poseable

- some nice details on the Tulkun, poseability is good

- no stickers

- he gives the set 3/5 stars, mainly because of the price. But when you are a Fan of the franchise, you will like the set.

Hmmm crab suit doesn’t look bad, but still too small for my liking. The whale on the other hand is worse to me now. The fins look way to mechanical and they don’t have enough range of movement, as does the body. I love the specialised parts but the use of grey and technic around them kinda breaks the illusion and the flow of the organic creature. It does look bigger in person, I’ll give them that, but it’s still way to much money for the 2 builds. Lotta space to throw a minifig in the mouth as well, overall I definitely think it’s the 3rd or 2nd weakest set of the wave (nothing is saving that reef, apart from a deep discount maybe. The other sets are all pretty good. The whale is fine, there’s just others that are better). I’m Surprised at how much I like the smaller sets. The ilu and the skim wing both look like good builds and display models that both have prominence in the film, going if the trailers anyways. And the mako sub is a bit of a weird one for me. It feels overpriced, and obviously the design is a bit all over the place with the open sides, and I personally believe it should be swapped with the crab suit, we haven’t seen it in any footage yet and it’s side builds are massive. But it does have quaritch and spider, 2 characters who seem to be very fluid with their alliances, and I’m a massive fan of the in universe sub.
