Having seen similar competitions on youtube, we got inspired to do one of our own: 
 

Caution: this is 10+ minutes of bad maneuvering, dropped cargo, and unprofessional commentary. Hope you like it.

I was at this event where the video was made and was inspired to also make the complete set. I am afraid I don't have a video at the moment, since the phone I am using normally for video's is also the one I need to run the brickcontroller 2 app. A video might come at some point, but for now the pictures will have to do.

My trailer also has counter steering on both axles. If I lower the struts, it straightens itself out which makes hooking the trailer to the truck easier

Nice to see these beautiful trucks and forklifts! Glad to see, that our Rig&Roll competition turned to be inspiration, even if only partially.
And I am really happy, that you find my coupling mechanism pretty interesting and useful.

Fun idea.

 

For the loading dock I would add like a soft spring that holds the little ramp up, and being pushed down on the bed when the truck drives against the loading dock (@1:25 in the video). This would eliminate having to push the loading plate down with your hands.

When the truck drives away the plate would go up again. 

It will be nice to see improvements in this topic from your trucks/forklifts.

Mmm, I like it, the idea of trailer steering not because of its angle to the truck (and it too, as I see) but activelly from the truck. The most lovelly thing here is the gears wich could be ommitted when using a simple regular trailer.

Such a mechanism is actually in place on our ramps after this video, but thanks for the suggestion. :classic:

Not sure I fully understand this comment, but to be clear: Out of all the people who build a trailer so far, I am the only one who made a  steering mechanism on the trailer. The others (like all in the video) have a "simple regular trailer".

 

I added the feature mostly because it seems to compensate my crappy trailer steering skills :classic:

Oh man, that looks like so much fun!  I need to get me one of those C+ sets.

Do the C+ motors give you more steering finesse, than the full-left/full-right of the old PF servos?

After the calibration with the dedicated steering block in Powered Up the C+ L motor acting as a servo offers six positions to the left and right of the center.

Ohh, possibly I figured it incorrectly, sorry. I meant any trailer wheels pivot as a "steering", even just guided by just the 5th wheel position to the trailer.

As for the "active steering" (well, may I call it like that?) with a steering shaft at the kingpin and the HOG mounted at the truck, yes, yours really looks a nice unique thing :thumbup:

Such a cool event. Thanks for sharing.

The event is so interesting, that I almost overlooked the beauty and design of the truck and forklifts. Great stuff!

Cool! Basically a block of motors with wheels and a fork  :laugh: Do I count four motors? Fourth being the one squeezed under the hub, I’m guessing for tilt..?

I like how you used the gear rack piece as a structural part, basically a 14×2 L-Beam, and not to use it as a gear rack. Well done.

Yup, all of them got 4 motors. Drive, steer, lift and tilt. It's quite fun little compact packages this way.

It was the best solution to get the required height (minimum is 20 studs of lift). Alternatives didn't get the required height or were more bulky. Barman and Mahj use a similar boom (Mahj's design) and Jovlem and me use a similar boom (I copied his, but modified it a little).

Yeah, there is almost zero room for anything else. And because off that, it's also quite a challenge to queeze all the cables in.

The motor under the hub (B) is indeed for tilting. It drives a wormgear to a 24z, the black beams connected to it should be attached to 5L brown axle in the boom.

I have also developed models for this competition based on PoweredUp and Pybricks for using programmed functions and one remote only (no devices, 100% LEGO).
