1950s Custom Pickup Truck (Lego Creator Expert set 10290 mod)

Recommended Posts

My latest creation is a mod of the recently released set 10290: Pickup Truck.  It was completely rebuilt to look mostly the same, but lowered as far as possible.  It seems like a simple mod, but was a bit of a challenge. I like the original grill a lot, but wanted one based on a real truck.  I was going for a 1955 Ford at first, thinking I could re-use the 1x2 curved slope with printed V8 logo in the center, but then decided on a late 1940s, early 1950s Chevrolet version.  Besides that, the bed was shortened a stud, running boards were 'painted' to match, studs eliminated, different shifter, relocated fuel door, passenger mirror removed, full wood bed, changed door handle, and incorporated tail lights.  I was going for a more extreme hot rod originally, but really like this clean look.  Maybe in the future I'll do a drag version with big engine.

Cool mod! Lowering the truck does make a ton of difference.

If LEGO can find the solution to making whitewall tires one day, it's going to be so rad!

Very nice project. Lowered car is 10 times better that the original one! The next step will be the roof height improvement - it is too high in the original build (copper it with your picture of a real car).

Since the lego set is not a licensed set (ford or Chevrolet etc.) I hope there will be more projects of this kind by changing the original set to the real cars... But there will be a problem with finding parts in this color... (I do not know a lot about it since im building technic myself)

Looks good! I was inspired to go 50’s Dodge. Also decided to go with bigger wheels instead of lowering. Enlarged the sun visor to make the roof seem lower, and then moved the side mirror up. Trying to make a hood ornament that looked like a ram was tough.

I really like the lowered stance and grill.....I used instructions from a different site to tuck the wheels in the fenders...it put it up slightly higher....his steering technique made it easy to put a blower on it

I've severely underestimated the complexity of this build lol.

any tips for someone trying to recreate your moc?

Likewise. I would pay for instructions on how to replicate this. I specifically bought the set to mod it into this.

Would love to know: does the steering still function? What additional Lego pieces were added.

I haven't even been able to find instructions to tuck the wheels as the user above mentioned.

No way to fit the steering, as tires sit in the fenders. Very minimal extra pieces.

No instructions, but I took some closer pics. It's very daunting but a great challenge! The hardest part is squeezing the front wheels into the fender.

I chopped the top off mine as well👍

Legend, thank you mate. Ended up replicating OPs with multi coloured bricks until I order them in dark red :)
