Hey folks, I want to share with you one of my current projects, the RC Superbikes.

It is another of those self-balancing motorcycles, but has some nice additional specs which might have considered to not work in the brick-universe.

Unluckily I couldn't finish the superbike project this summer, final highspeed runs will have to take place in the next summer to have some warm tarmac again for giving some additional grip.

Specs

  • Scale 1/6.5
  • Weight ~650g
  • Single swingarm construction for the rear wheel
  • Working transmission via chain
  • Powered by Buwizz 3
  • Two buggy motors
  • 1x Custom 5L Liftarm made out of aluminium with a ballbearing included
  • Theoretical topspeed should be astonnishing 62 km/h, basing on the 2500 rpm with BW3 at 12V peak (which by its scale would translate into 403 km/h)
    • Real world maximum speed may be lower due to physics kicking in (wobble, weave)

I'm not much of a motorbike person normally, but this looks seriously amazing! Brilliant work!

Heck of a thing, amigo.

Self balancing bikes have come a long way in a very short time with @piterx and your efforts (and my supporting part).

For a good while there @Green Gecko was the biggest fish in a very small pond, now we've furthered that, adding rear suspension, power by buggy motor, chain drive, got rid of the weight brick, removed a whole lot of wobbliness, etc.

Still not sure how to feel about the bearing, but for sure it clears a problem that limits the top speed of any Lego vehicle: the Lego wheel hubs eventually melt and fly apart. And in any case, Lego hubs have too much slack for this single sided swingarm construction. Look at the Ducati, and it's already clear you wouldn't be able to drive with control.

Amazing what can be done with brick toys!

@Maaboo35 Thank you very much :D

@Gray Gear I also wanted some feedback from ppl on eurobricks ^^ - in one of the videos you can see it without covering. It is just a rig with the two wheels mounted and them connected via a chain for the front wheel also seeing spinning.

@amorti Appreciated - as always, also thanks for the Fast Street Bike instructions and getting the possibility of testing out physics & learning with this real good design!

I really like what you have done with this bike. It still looks a bit bulky, but managing to fit those electronics in it without it looking like an oversized donkey kong bike is way impressive. Dang, if only servo motors came in black

Or me getting laughed about from the internet for failing hard to achieve 🙄😆

Edit: In the long run I hope I can motivate some other MOCers to also try hard, so all of us get more self balancing motorcycles, because driving them is so much more fun than driving (slow) cars.

Huge recommentation from my side to everyone!

I've built a few with 81.6mm balloon tires, but maybe this is the inspiration I need to take another shot at a dual-buggy motor bike with Ducati wheels. Then again, I've got a long list of MOCs planned, so that may not surface for a good long time...

Little update from my side: Currently building the v0.2 with some little improvements over the initial v0.1.

This one will be modeled after the (even tuned) Kawasaki Ninja H2R from TrickStar - with the two Buwizz buggy motors this shall be the one setting or breaking speed records (36.5 km/h *cough cough*).

Looks awesome! Which brand of servo are you using? I missed out on buying one and no return to center in my fast rc cars really stinks!

@whitepen I am currently using MouldKing servo motors. In the white version of the Superbike I put one of their proportional / stepped servos in.  It has 3-4 Positions to one side (don't exactly remember the count of steps)

Just as a heads up for @whitepen, I've heard that they aren't making the proportional control ones anymore. It's hard to know for sure, but if you're counting on that feature, be careful!

Well that stinks! I guess i will just stick to powered up then!

Ah yeah sorry, I forgot to mention this... MK stopped them because they had some issues with them.

I am ignorant and ordered some from Ali... At least they work for me - until now :D
