LEGO Star Wars 2022 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!

Are all the upcoming Hoth sets (AT-AT, AT-ST and battle pack) LEGO exclusives, or will they also be sold at other retailers? (sorry if I missed this information in the tread). Just wondering whether we could expect to get the sets at lower prices.

The AT-AT I think is a LEGO exclusive (although I have seen the UCS Falcon and ISD at John Lewis in the UK before, so who knows), but nothing to indicate the other two won't be available elsewhere.

The larger sets like UCS, MBS, etc. start out as D2C (direct to consumer) only available from LEGO Stores and LEGO's website. This window of exclusivity typically lasts 3 months, after which they are available from select retailers (typically the largest ones like Amazon, Target etc. in the US). These retailers are usually prohibited from marking down the D2C sets for the first several months (or even years) that they carry them.

The price hike is completely ridiculous and is not justified at all- a 25% increase in the US. Seems like most here are fortunate enough that a 25% price hike doesn't bother them in the slightest but many people aren't. Especially, kids, literally the target audience. The price is nothing more than lego cashing in on their global 36% increased sales and 140% increased profit. Clearly people are just buying whatever they put out at whatever prices and the price of this set reflects that.

Price hikes are to be expected in the current global economic climate. It's not just the price of the plastic going up that will be causing the increases. In Europe especially the price of everything has increased due to shortage of materials, mainly due to not being able to get transport to move the goods. A massive decrease in the global supply of microchips has meant lots of delays to vehicle and machine manufacturing. I work in manufacturing so I see the challenges daily. Trying to arrange for a shipment of finished products to a customer has been very difficult in the UK due to a shortage of HGV's and people to drive them. It's affecting all industries and it pushes the prices of goods up as companies demand them. Those price increases are then passed onto the consumers.

So, just saw 2 new sets and they are ok, nothing amazing except for that boxart. At-st is ok, I don't think anyone actually wanted this thing to be based on Hoth version, as it's barely in ESB, and not that similar to iconic Endor version. Figures are meh tbh, only real worthy addition is Chewie with snow printed on him. And for 50$ set I would expect 4 figures instead of 3, easy to throw another random rebel trooper.

Hoth BP is very generic looking one. On positive side good showtroopers and no more stud shooters in bp, yay! On negative 20$ for this set is insane. You can't convince me that this BP provides more value than last 15$ BP in 2020. Same piece count and figure count, yet 20$ now! Insane 33% price hike, without giving us better value. And no minifigure display stand that we rumored for a while.

Overall ok sets, but nothing great so far winter wave looks like easy skip for me untill Bp is on discount.

I've just seen the pics of the 2022 Snowtrooper Battle Pack & Hoth AT-ST sets.

The Hoth AT-ST set is good overall.
I'm not that keen on the design of the AT-ST though. The legs look unfinished, not sure about the feet & the head is a bit gappy. I do like the side mounted weapons!
I much prefer my modified Rogue One AT-ST.
The new AT-ST driver minifig is very nice & it's good to have a female Hoth Rebel Trooper minifig. Snowy Chewie is cute & the new Probe Droid design is Excellent. :classic:

I'm very impressed with the Snowtrooper Battle Pack. The Speeder bike design is nice and the Hoth Scout Trooper design is lovely. The set is great for army building, with no daft additional minifigs. I'll definitely be buying a few of these sets to go with the rest of my Hoth Imperial forces.
I prefer my E-Web Heavy Blaster from the 2020 AT-AT set. The new Stud Shooter design cool, but I'll still remove them anyway. lol.

Speak for yourself, I’ve wanted the hoth walker for a while and I’m pretty sure I’ve seen it in the wishlist thread more than a few times

Even if one didn’t particular crave the set, it’s new. I appreciate new things, the set and the figures.

Exactly. I would have preferred to get something other than an AT-ST again, but if Lego was dead-set on doing one then I think they made the best choice they could. We got new figs and a new variant of the vehicle, plus it fits with the other Hoth stuff we're getting.

The AT-ST looks great! I missed out on the Rogue One version and this one will do nicely! The battlepack looks good. Price on that one makes it a little hard to swallow and I wish the Snowtroopers came with the white waist capes that previous incarnations did but that Scout and the speederbike design really sell the set.

It does provide more value than at least the last two battle packs. A Mashable speeder bike that has had many appearances is better than the two barely seen Sith and Mando vehicles. Also it has three of the same figure which makes it easier to amass an army of soldiers without too many officers or specialists. Snow troopers should have more utility for army building as well given a Hoth diorama would be more popular than an Exogol one. Inflation from 2016 when the last increase happened would change $15 to ~$17.20. If the price stays $20 until 2028 then that should be in line with inflation as well.

Kind of bored by Hoth content ngl. The 2013 Episode 2 wave was the peak of this theme for me, but plenty of good sets have cone out in subsequent years.

I think I really want a solid prequel wave like the content we got from 2011-2013. Palpatine’s Arrest, Gungan Sub, AT-TE, I really wish I got those sets. Really hope Lego revisits the prequels soon, think I got the bulk of what I needed from the original trilogy and recently decided I don’t like the sequel trilogy enough to want those sets in my collection. So I’m just waiting until we revisit those awesome 2012-2013 concepts.

Not the only one brother, but I don’t think those days will come anytime soon sadly. Even more so with all the new content coming out.

The Hoth AT-ST is a great addition, though I'm not a fan of the legs. The Battlepack is great but 20$ is a tough pill for army builders. As a side note, I'm glad we're getting more unique minifigures heads other than the standard angry Clone head.

I assume the battle packs will, in short order, show up with a permanent 20% discount on Walmart. 16$ is fine and then I’ll arm sweep shelves during clearance season to further complement my at-at.

Just a heads up:

75343: TBA SW 18+ / $59.99 March 2022
Could be the AT-AT Driver Helmet, a Dark Trooper Helmet as StoneWars speculated, the Trash Compactor set PromoBricks reported on, or something new!

I think it‘s another helmet. While the price point would fit well for the Trash Compactor, the release date is off. After all, the other two helmets are released in March and the dioramas in May :shrug_oh_well:

I would also expect a helmet. It did seem odd that we had a list of three but only two were to get made when the past two waves had three each, so this would clear that up. Luke's is still the only one I'm at all excited about.

Yeah, the Snowtrooper BP does provide more value than the Sith Trooper BP, but in all honesty LEGO could just give us 3 Sith Troopers and the officer in the first place without losing any money and they wouldn't have to pay for design of re-colored Jet Trooper. It definitely isn't better than the old Mandalorian BP, Rebel Scout Trooper BP, Clone Walker BP, Imperial Troop Transport BP, Older Imperial Dropship BP, Senate Commando BP, Imperial Trooper BP etc. What if this BP was just a fluke and we see random crew members, drivers and innacurate vehicles in the next one and the price stays the same?
LEGO could also just make accurate speeder and AT-RT for 501st set and sell them to us for $15 or even $20 cause they had to go out of their way to make it for us. It's not all inflation it's straight up greed.
People nowadays are more loyal to the company than to themselves and they keep defending the multi billion dollar company giving us meh product for top price. With inflation BP that was $10 in the december of 2009 should be $12.81 today and not $20 according to Bureau of Labor Statistics which has a free calculator online. They will get us used to it with this price for 3-4 years and then get the price up again to $25.

If you're going to do this kind of analysis, you should use real numbers. The battle packs released in 2009 were $11.99, not $9.99. Adjusting for inflation (using the same calculator you used), that comes to $15.72... and with inflation now at 6.2% annually, the supply chain and shipping in particular eff'ed up the wazoo, and no telling when life is truly going to return to normal, I'd guess LEGO is being conservative in its long-term outlook and simply planning for the worst. We also don't know what non-inflationary changes might be motivating the price increase... things like licensing fees, which have been renegotiated at least once since 2009.

I don't disagree that it's a steep price hike. I'd much rather have seen it go to $17.99, which seems more in keeping with previous battle pack price jumps. But I also suspect that, with things going the way they are, the inflation-adjusted value of the BPs will surpass even that number sooner than anyone would like.

I used imperial dropship that came out in 2008 as example ($10 in 2008 january= $13.10 now), that same battle pack was still for sale till it retired on 31st of December of 2009.

In short:
2007- Battle Packs come out for 9.99$
2022- Battle Packs are now $19.99
Inflation from January of 2007 to today is 3 dollars and 66 cents and the price increased for $10.
