Versus Invictus, Round One

Agents' Turn:

Glenn inspects Antenna D: (4, 1, 3, 6, 6, 3) 3 successes vs DC 3: Success! Glenn finds the weak point: +2 successes when targeting an antenna!

Valesia casts Hampering Hold on Invictus: (6, 5, 3) - 2 successes, Invictus is Restrained for 2 rounds! -1 spirit for Valesia

Max shoots at Antenna D: (5, 2, +1 from weapon, +2 from hitting the weak point) = 3 successes - 0 successes  = 4 damage

Soren moves to D4 and shoots at Antenna D: (6, 3, +2 from weapon, +2 from hitting the weak point) = 4 successes - 0 successes = 5 damage

Invictus' Turn:

Invictus fires at Soren: (5, 6, +2) vs (3, 3, 6) = 4 successes - 1 success = 3 damage

Invictus casts Gravity Sink on Valesia, pulling her from F4 to F3: (3) = 0 Arcana successes, 0 damage, -1 spirit for Invictus

Antenna C detonates! Valesia is caught in the blast: 3 - (5, 6) 2 skill successes = 1 damage

Glenn inspects the nearest antenna in a hurry, poring over it until he finds a serial number on one of the panels:

"This is a Model 6... year is...! Okay, long story short, these things got recalled for being defective back in the day! Count the notches in the antenna going uwards from the base; between the third and fourth, attack there."

Valesia's vines spring up from the sand and coil around Invictus' torso and feet, holding him down for a solid amount of time. The machine struggled against his bonds as he watched Soren and Max nearly topple Antenna D in a blink.

"Plant life? Springing from this carcass of a planet...? Fascinating..."

Invictus struggles and manages to tear an arm out from one of the vines. True to his word, he aims his arm cannon at Soren and fires, doing some rather heavy damage to the agent. Black and white electricity crackles through Soren's body as the shot finds its target. Before Valesia can jump in to heal, she feels the grains of sand beneath her feet shift and backwards, a gravity sink pulling her towards the impending blast. The antenna crackles and unleashes a fiercesome burst of energy! The Cladrasith braces herself against the blast, but some debris still manages to scuff her up and causes minor damage.

The Cladrasith coughs through the dust as she sees her team mates nearly toppling one of the antenna. "Nice work Glenn! See if you can disable Antenna C guys, Soren try and stay out of the bot's range for now." Valesia moves to F5 and attacks Antenna D. To Valesia's mind's ear, the discordant static threatened to flood the melodic harmony of life as she desperately tried to maintain the rhythm humming along at a barely audible level. "Glenn you'll get a better shot at Antenna C from my position (F3)"

Damn, he's honest about one thing I'lll give him that.

Soren limps to E3 and fires on Antenna C.

'Quick suggestion; Glenn and I are practically guaranteed to take down this Antenna by ourselves. Max should move forward and start taking on one of the rear antennas.

Glenn and Soren both have an auto +4 to hit the antenna, leading to a +8 total before even factoring our rolls. There's a chance we screw up and can't get two successes in four rolls, but it's unlikely and fairly easy to recover from.

“A bit of a risk, but maybe one he can afford for now.” Valesia nodded in agreement. She spun her chef’s knife expertly, it got used so infrequently these days, she wondered whether she’d ever truly return to the cozy confines of a kitchen or whether this was her life now.

Moving so close to the dreaded warbot gave Max the creeps, but he trusted his shield to protect him just like it had back at the sunken sub.

Versus Invictus, Round Two

Agents' Turn:

Valesia moves to F5 and slashes at Antenna D: (+1, +2 from hitting the weakpoint) = 3 successes = 3 damage, Antenna D is down

Glenn moves to F3 and shoots at Antenna C: (2, 2, +2, +2 from weakpoint) = 4 successes = 4 damage

Max moves to C6 and fires on Antenna B: (6, 6, +1, +2 from weakpoint) = 5 successes = 5 damage

Soren limps to E3 and tries to finish off Antenna D: (6, 4, +2, +2 from weakpoint) = 6 successes, Antenna C destroyed

Invictus' Turn:

Invictus casts Pulling Point, dragging Max to D6: (6) vs (+1 Kinetic armor) = 1 success - 1 success = 0 damage

Invictus fires at Max: (2, 2, +2 weapon mod) vs (2, 3, +1 Energy armor) + 2 successes - 1 success =  1 damage

This was perhaps the first time that Valesia's chef knife found itself meeting rusty metal, but it does the trick, slicing through the antenna and leaving it worthless to Invictus. Glenn and Soren team up to fell the opposite antenna. Glenn's shot leaves it bent, and Soren's energy blast knocks the top half of the device clean off. Max feels a sense of unease being so near Invictus -  he can hear the static trapped inside the metal husk, roaring and hissing, as he deals hefty damage to one of the antennae.

Max didn't have to be concerned about being near Invictus for very long, though, because the machine uses pulling point again. Max trips and falls back, right into the warbot's critical range. The vines engulfing his body just barely manage to pull away his arm cannon at the last second, an otherwise devastating shot that would've gone through the former miner's skull instead skimming off his left shoulder.

Invivctus charges up his arm cannon until the muzzle was white hot, using the heat to ignite the weakened vines, breaking free of Valesia's hampering hold. The bot was still in almost pristine condition, but the cornerstones of his offensive were crumbling by the second.

The Cladrasith twirls her knife and quickly sheathes it, wincing from the sound of steel on rusted metal. "I'll try to keep him pinned down for just a bit longer." Valesia rushes over to F4 and continues humming picking up the tempo as she weaves another hampering hold spell targeting Invictus"Glenn I'd recommend keeping on Soren's six (D2) and aim for Antenna A."

Having to be at the recieving end of Invictus' weaponry was not a pleasant position to be in. Yet Max knew that they had to take down the antennas, no matter how risky it was. So he braced himself and stepped forwards towards the antenna, undiscouraged by the warbot's efforts.

Max moves to C6 and fires again at antenna B

Versus Invictus, Round Three

Valesia moves to F4 and casts Hampering Hold on Invictus: (5, 2, 4) 2 successes, Invictus is Restrained for 2 turns. -1 spirit

Glenn moves to D2 and shoots at Antenna A: (5, 5, +2, +2 from weak point, -1 from being out of optimal range) = 5 successes = 5 damage

Max moves back to C6 and fires on Antenna B: (6, 4, +1, +2 from weak point) = 5 successes = 5 damage

Soren moves to C2 and attacks Antenna A: (2, 5, +2, +2 from weak point) = 5 successes = 5 damage

Invictus' Turn:

Invictus casts Quantum Transposition (Minor Transport): moves to C4

Invictus fires at Valesia: (6, 4, +2 weapon mod) vs (3, 5) = 4 successes - 1 successes = 3 damage

The heroes roll on. Valesia summons her vines once more, ensnaring Invictus just as soundly as before. Soren, Max, and Glenn work effectively as a team, managing to topple the final 2 antennae before Invictus can even charge a second one. One of the cornerstones of his offensive was now completely nullified!

"I never got to have my fun with those," Invictus notes, seemingly miffed. "But that's okay. This shell has a trick that my main body doesn't."

Invictus suddenly vanishes into a cloud of black and white particles, reappearing a split second later a few feet in front of his old position. Valesia's vines lash out to hold him down again, but not before he aims and fires at the Cladrasith. The blast goes slightly low and bores into her leg. Hanging on by a thread, Valesia's vision blurs as static echoes in her head.

For a moment the melody falters, Valesia gasps as her sense are overwhelmed by discord, chaos, and pain. The Cladrasith grits her teeth, "I'll... manage Glenn. Stand your ground and... shoot that thing will ya?" Taking a deep breath, Valesia tries to calm her breathing letting the melody wash over her wounds, casting Sustaining Healing on herself before dragging herself nearby the Undead (E3). "Boys, I'd suggest Max fix you up Soren. Don't want you goin' down too soon."

OoC: Do you want to shoot first and then move? C3 puts you right next to Invictus.

My original plan was actually A3 so that's my bad, but now that you say it, staying close probably gives us an advantage against Invictus since he needs an action to switch to melee. That said, he could use one action to switch and then tear us apart with his second action. A3 is probably the safer range?

A3 seems wiser to me. After all we both have short range weapons so keeping at least a little distance makes sense.

OoC: It's a tossup as he could simply attack the same target twice instead of switching to a different weapon and then attacking once. The key is getting to a range where Max can heal Soren this round with a potion.

Sounds good to me.

OoC: Just to provide clarification are you using your potion on Soren (preferred) or handing it to him?

Versus Invictus, Round Four

Agents' Turn:

Valesia limps to E3 and casts Sustaining Healing on herself: (4, 4, 1, +1) = 3 successes = 3 Vitality restored, -1 Spirit

Glenn stays put and opens fire on Invictus: (5, 1, +2) vs (5) = 3 successes - 1 success = 2 damage

Soren shambles to A3 and opens fire on Invictus: (6, 3, +2) vs (3) = 3 successes - 0 successes = 3 damage

Max moves to A4 and uses a Plasma Potion on Soren: 4 vitality restored!

Invictus' Turn:

Invictus fires at Glenn: (2, 4, +2, -1 from out of range) vs (2) = 2 successes - 0 successes = 2 damage

Invictus swaps to his Conqueror's Talons

With the antennae down, it was time for the group to get their bearings back. Valesia mends her wounds, restoring the harmony humming in her ears as Soren and Glenn take pot shots at the bound warbot. Max uncorks a plasma potion and tosses it to Soren, allowing him to restore all of his vitality.

"Plasma potions? Hardly sporting, Miner. But you seem a bit too durable to harm at this range - something about that armor. Let's try this instead."

Invictus turns to face the one target he hadn't taken a crack at yet. His arm was still bound, hurting his aim, but Glenn simply can't move fast enough to get out of the way of the blast, reeling backwards as a static bolt punches him in the gut.

Retractable blades spring out from Invictus' clawed feet, and with a little manuevering he manages to slice his way out of Valesia's vines! He stalks forward, his talons digging into the terrain with each step, legs crushing the ground like hydraulic presses...

It still says Invictus is restrained, I'm assuming that's a mistake?
