8880 can be called my favorite set of a series of Techniс, and I have long wanted to touch it by assembling it from modern parts, because I don't have any old ones, and it's too expensive to buy the original set.

Getting started:

Some teaser:

Almost done:

Final result:

Description:

  • All the features of the original set are preserved: steering of all wheels from the handle on the roof and from the steering wheel in the cabin, a model of a v8 engine with a fan, a 4-speed gearbox, all-wheel drive with three differentials, independent suspension of all wheels;
  • Additional functions: Opening the engine compartment with a support, lifting the headlights with a lever from the cab;

I'm sorry that I published all the photos at once, and not sequentially. This is my first competition for Eurobricks, and I did not immediately understand the rules. I hope I did everything right :)

@Shumo Lego I think you need to resize your images they look large and distorted on my browser. Please check the guidelines for posting images. I think 1024 is the image size. Something like Flickr should help post correct size images

Hi and welcome to EB and to this competition.
No worries, you still have enough time to read the rules and to ask if you have any doubts.
Posting such a large number of photos can indeed clog the page and make it hard to use, and most of the times, there is really no need for 40 images in one post :wink:

So, one thing you need to do, is to reduce the size of the images in the ENTRY topic (where you posted the final 4 images). Max allowed size is 1024x1024. We can sometimes turn a blind eye for larges size when posted in the forum, but for the entry topic, we all need to be strict and precise, due to very large number of photos from all the entries.

Have fun!

Good replica.

I just don't understand, why there are two gear levers?

Maybe he tried to make it closer to remarkable Hurts/Olds gearbox with its "Lightning rods"? They were quite weird and complicate in use, but the ones who manage to deal with them achieved the fastest-ever shifting.

Thank You

I just couldn't get the steering shaft anywhere except through the gearbox, so there are 2 levers that work one at a time

I think your pop up headlights are in the wrong way.

At first I made them in the right direction, but they stuck up so much, so I redid them

Impressive recreation of the best supercar ever!!!

Thank you very much! I also believe that this is still the most advanced supercar in Lego Technic

While the construction seems like a really good build, I don't like the effect of the liftarms on this model.

The original set had thick lines because liftarms are thicker and there are spots were those are connected with plates making the lines thicker. I don't feel the same vibe from this model and I think some of the spots would be better with a bit more modernisations with panels closing the gaps.

Additional critique here is that the original model has a bit more detailed interior, at least when it comes to the seats and we already have some cool ways to build quality seats at this scale.

Once again - great model, but when it comes to being truthful to the original, I don't feel the same vibe from it for some reason.

Yes, I agree, thin lines prevent an accurate hit in the original, it is difficult to do something about it, since this is a fundamental thing

In the original, the interior is made of a system, I have a technic. Systems have always been better in terms of detail

I really like the side shape of your re-interpretaion of the 8880. The rear reminds me a little of the first Toyota MR2. :thumbup:

Thank you very much for your message, I have already corrected it. It is very strange that the photos have disappeared, they have been hanging quietly for several days and have not gone anywhere

Why haven't you corrected the entry post? You can use Bricksafe (or Flickr) to host your images.

I remember that his entry images did work, but it might be a poor temporary hosting that doesn't keep the image for longer than specified time or he used a temporary cached link instead of explicitly generating the link. I remember seeing it there in the entries.

A bit of bummer for such amount of work to not even compete in the contest...
