Hi everyone,

Today I want to introduce to you my latest MOC : a Poclain excavator, the HC 300.

Poclain is a French company (bought in 2000s by CASE) leader in 60-70s in hydraulics excavators and engines. The HC 300 was the bigger excavator in the world in 1968 !

Specifications :

I wanted to control the model with a smartphone so I used Control+/Power up applications. The excavator has also manual features. I used electrical linear actuators instead of pneumatics to enhance playability.

The excavator must be able to rise one track from the ground by using the bucket and his motorized arm. Inventory is mainly based on #42082. The main design is based on 8043 set.

The drive train is powered by 2 L motors and a dual differential drive : more informations on @Sariel video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5_OQooBxdY. This kind of transmission allows control by only one joystick one smartphone screen instead of two sliders.

Configuration :

Features

- Toggling cabin with mechanical locking system

51188252718_40659f8d99_b.jpg

- 360° turret rotation : One battery box is placed in drive train and the other one is placed on turret. No cables through the turntable, only a shaft to transmits rotation from drive train to the V12.

51188034431_1b931eac16_b.jpg

- Technical compartments : a lot of openable elements very useful to store tools and tracks components. The grid at the back can be opened to reveal V12 engine.

51189096650_f697bc5670_b.jpg

- The entire bodywork is removable. It is only set on the turret by gravity. The entire of the excavator is modular in order to make disassembly easier.

51188252598_1a1f662c3a_b.jpg

- V12 engine works when the excavator move. I add a maximum of details to make it more realistic.

- The dual differential drive : Each motor drives one kind of motion, straight-line motion or rotation. Get more information here : http://groups.csail.mit.edu/drl/courses ... ldiff.html. You can also combine motions to get curved directions.

Conclusion

The video will come soon ! Building instructions too !

I hope you liked this creation, I tried to mix up realistic details and common excavator's features. Only displacement is slow because of a total weight of 2kg.

Verry nice and higly detaild model ,with some nice funktions .

Worked a few times at the real model .

Was in the year 1970 -1980 the most powerfull hydraulic excavator ,with a working pressure over 400 bar .

Well done! I like it! Would you mind to also publish your Powered Up code?

Magnifique, mon ami! Excellent rendition of a classic excavator.

Funnily enough, a couple of official sets were modelled on Poclain machines as well:

Wow incredible ! Tank you for this technical facts !

Of course yes, very soon. I'm working on a feature to reverse motors rotation by the software just like old PFS remotes.

Ahaha yes indeed. You take a red turret and a black drive train you get a Poclain xD

Thank you so much guys for your comments !

Great work and impressive design with all the moduls, especially the engine!

Brilliant :-)

Even though this MOC is lovely, I will have to go on about how lovely the design on the real excavator is! Maybe if you're not that much of a purist, you could use some custom stickers! Great job fitting that extra L-motor in the arm of the crane, especially with that big a motor. Looking forward to those building instructions! Keep up the good work!

Great job! Highly functional, very attractive, and I love the modularity! It took me a while to figure out the dual differential drive because I was confused by the middle set of bevel gears, going to the engine. Love your implementation and it has a very satisfying symmetry. Is the dual differential drive inspired by the real-life excavator?

That's scheduled ! I already tried on my LEAP engine (you can see results here : https://www.flickr.com/photos/147164115@N07/albums/72157718957968196) and I wanted to do the same on the Poclain !

I've made a lot of iterations on this transmission. For example, I added a bridge on 20t bevels gears in order to reduce stresses on gears. This solution split stress path and decrease tooth wear.

The DDD is not implement on the real excavator. I added this kind of transmission to create a technical challenge ! Much more difficult than 2 parallels motors but less efficient !
