RES-Q sets reimagined

Recommended Posts

The 1998 Res-Q theme was one of my favorite line of sets growing up.

Just for fun I decided to rebuild the sets digitally and imagine how they would look nowadays.

I startet with the four smaller sets. What do you think? Would you like to see more sets? Do you think it would be realistic for TLG to recreate a theme like RES-Q nowadays? Your feedback and ideas are always welcome.

Edit: I completed the series. The album can be found here.

6451: Res-Q Jet-Ski

51171460604_feac40f9ea_c.jpg6415-1.jpg

The smallest set of the line. I didn't put too much work into this and just redid 30567: Police Water Scooter in RES-Q colors.

1069: Speedboat

1069-1.jpg?200004090759

The only civilian set. I only did it to complete the series :)

2962: Res-Q Lifeguard

I changed the windscreen and turned this into a proper "baywatch" vehicle

6431: Road Rescue

6431-1.jpg

The 1998 version was too simple in my opinion. I added an enclosed body to the SUV so all the tools could be transported. The SUV seats two minifigs.

6445: Emergency Evac

6445-1.jpg

I had so much fun with this set playing with the rope and the ambulance. I tried to keep the beefy looking off-road truck look and the possibility to load a stretcher in the back as well es the little trailer.

6451: River Response

I changed the little vehicle a lot. Now it's an atv seating two minifigs. I kept the shape of the boat but added a proper cabin.

6462: Aerial Recovery

6462-1.jpg

Loved this set as a kid. Was the boat and the trike in the original set rescue equipment or did those belong to the diver? I chose rescue equipment for my version. I like how the helicopter turned out and that I even could use the new "porsche bow".

6473: Res-Q Cruiser

With the telehandler I went with a more realistic approach. A lot of fire departments and disaster management agencies use them with different attachments.

I think the new road plates work great for the pier. For the tow truck I built 4 or 5 different versions. But now I am quite happy how it turned out.

Wow, that's really excellent work, @marv!

If these were official sets, I'd buy them at once!

Do you plan to do a digital reimagination of the Res-Q HQ, the lifeguard stand, the helicopter and the hovercraft, too? That would be really cool!

Thank you, Klaus-Dieter. Yes I am currently working on the HQ...but it's work in progress.

I can well imagine this.

Do you plan to add some civilian aspects to the remaining sets, too? Such as a small hut, a canyon with a rope brige, a pier with a motor boat, ...? This would be really nice.

These are really great updates.  They work very well as modern City sets and keep the feel of the original sets.  I especially like your update to 6431, it actually makes it seem like a real vehicle.  I had set 6431 as a kid but I didn't like it very much because I couldn't figure out quite what it was supposed to be.  It didn't have a roof, the front sloped like very few real cars and trucks I knew about, and the big lifted wheels looked completely unrealistic to me.  One of the reasons I buy a lot of Lego today, including Lego cars, is to assuage that childhood longing for a Lego car that actually looked like a real car, with a roof, etc!  So maybe if I'd had your version of 6431 as a kid I wouldn't be buying Lego today because there wouldn't ever have been a lack of a car that looked like a real car! :) ... Would you mind posting the Studio files?

I love these!

Res-Q was one of my favorites as well.

I look forward to seeing the HQ when you finish.

Oh wow I like these a lot! RES-Q was a big part of my childhood LEGO collection. I was missing the HQ and the mail order only hovercraft.

Can't wait to see more of these!

Behold, the 2022 city line-up ! Well done. Change the colors to white and orange, and you have yourself the new coastguard theme ;) .

Thank you all so much for the great feedback. It took some time but I finally got around to do the HQ.

Why does the truck now have two winches? What was the inspiration?

It looks like the original tow truck has two hooks as well.  In the box photo, one is connected to the boat, the other is swinging on the right.

Great work on all of these! I had a couple of these sets as a kid (6431, 6451, and 6462 Aerial Recovery) so this is a nice nostalgia kick.

I like how you expanded 6431 into a more versatile utility vehicle. There was a City set from a couple years ago that could be modified to match the old pickup truck style of the original model: 60240 Kayak Adventure (if you swap the red pieces for yellow it'd fit in nicely with the Res-Q colour scheme)

These are all fantastic reworks of the originals.  Looking back, how simplistic were some of these!  Its a testament to how far we’ve come in terms of bricks and designs in the last 20 years.

TLG needs to pay attention to these, and maybe think about making these.
