MOW vehicle repair and storage facility with construction vehicles and inspection car - real life MOC updated 7/16/22

Recommended Posts

Here is my revamped version of 60278 (the cancelled CITY set called "Crook's Hideout Raid"), modified for use by my railroad's Maintenance Of Way (MOW) department, instead of the crooks. The claw crane out in the front lot of the building was inspired by 7596 (Trash Compacter Escape).

The MOW department also owns quite a few vehicles that make sure the railroad is running smoothly. The bucket truck is from 3179 (Repair Truck), dump truck is from set 7789 (Lotso's Dump Truck), drill vehicle from 7936 (Level Crossing), the bulldozer is from 60074 (Bulldozer) and the front end-loader from set 7630 (Front End-Loader). The rail mobile is inspired by 40532 (Vintage Taxi) and rolls quite well on the track with no problems in stock switches or standard R40 curves.

The front of the facility. Emmet Brickowski runs the facility and it's crew like a well-oiled machine, helping to repair breakdowns in infrastructure / clean up derailments safely, securely, and in a timely manner.

The front office with the break room is on the lower level. The second floor comes off to access this room.

The inside , with the roof removed. Emmet's office is on the second floor.

Nice build - it's good to know that at least part of the canceled set will live on in your layout. Brilliant use of the pith helmet for the gramophone bell!

Thanks, it is a little sad the 1x3x3 windows in black (as seen in the cancelled set) are not going to be available. Those would've been so useful in so many ways! (also, the pith helmet idea originally came from the 2012 Monster fighters Haunted House)

Bro! My recommendation; paint it yellow and turn it into a bus station. ;)

I was torn between yellow and red, but red emulates the original dark red (of the set) more.

I'm going to put a truncated (height wise) version of this sign on the roof. It should look quite nice.

(NOTE: I borrowed these letters' design structure from my brother with his permission, and put them on a billboard to spell out OCTAN, as seen above. Here is a link to his Flickr feed, as he requested I add to this post.)

Nice job all around. I really like the OCTAN sign too.

thanks! I credit my brother for the basic fontwork, I just redid it to say OCTAN.

Main post EDITED 3/29/21 for major changes to the building, including a removable second floor and reduced building footprint to fit on 32 x 32 baseplate.

Here is the new version...

…versus version one.  As described above, 95% of the building has been majorly changed in size and functions.

Main post edited today, as major changes have been done to the building, including getting raising the floor of the first level a-brick-and-a-plate in level off the baseplate, along with removal of the OCTAN sign. The rail mobile, although 98% built in real life, is being modified to have a different streamlined "nose" on the hood, which was stolen design-wise from set 10232. (Palace Cinema)

..oh yeah, I added a crane too, inspired by 7596 (Trash Compacter Escape) to to be placed in front of the building once built in real life.

See more pictures in the newly redone first post!

Looks like dynamite! =)

Thanks @Black Knight:tongue: Here is an significant update to the model below:

I ordered the 268(+/-) remaining parts today to finish the rail mobile storage building for my WXYZ railroad. See the whole model via LDD screenshots in the first post. It *should* be done in a week or two... hopefully by the 12th of June, because that's when my local LUG meets next.

Very nice!  It looks excellent in real bricks - the renders are never quite up to the mark (though I know that's by no means your fault).  Every time I see MOW in one of your posts I think of 'man of war' instead, so get very confused before remembering it's maintenance of way here!  Those vehicles look good too - I particularly like the rail mobile.  In my dreams I would have a real one of those...

@Vilhelm22 LOL at the "Man Of War" sentiment, and thanks for the compliments! (I too want a real-life rail mobile!)

Sorry moderators for the year-and-change bump, but I've added two new vehicles models along with all-new photos of everything!

52219669212_a6af708222_z.jpg

First post updated completely as of now, but here's some more info about the inspection car you won't find up there!

52220689628_205295e5c5_z.jpg

This model was heavily modified from 2022 Gift With Purchase set 40532 (Vintage Taxi) into a track inspection vehicle for my already-built MOW depot.

52219669262_1fbd9f75ff_z.jpg

I had to remove the chassis plate + a whole layer of plates to add in the Big Ben Bricks XS train wheels.

52220674696_195c34ae69_z.jpg

The vehicle can sit two figs, and a suitcase behind the rear seat rest.

Thoughts on this update (and the models themselves, of course!) are always appreciated!
