[COR-TER] Reconnaissance in Force

Recommended Posts

Colonel Sir Dirk Allcock has been busy since landing in Westface. As commander (land), Corlander Forces Terraversa, he has had much to do. Most of his time has been taken liaising with L'Ouis and his Terraversan staff in Westface, finding billets for the Corlander Expeditionary Force and ensuring there are enough supplies to campaign. Before leaving for Pamu, his old friend Montoya and remarked his preparations would be in vain, and that the proposed peace talks would prevent conflict.  Allcock was not so sure. He had not been in favour of war with Oleon, although that nation's aggressive and irresponsible actions attacking King's Port had left the Crown with little choice. Since the declaration, old enmities - animosity Allcock had hoped buried with expansion into the New World - had spilled to the surface. He felt certain the war; which to date had been relatively bloodless between Corrington and Oleon, would not end without a major blood letting.

Finally the arrangements in Westface were competed to his satisfaction. Still, his work had only just began. He strongly believed that information won battles and wars. The Corlanders had limited knowledge of the environment and terrain of Eastern Terraversa. This would have to change. Together with his second in command; Major Nathaniel Brickford, he has left Westface to conduct a thorough reconnaissance eastern Terraversa. Not wanting to risk capture or ambush, this will be a reconnaissance in force, accompanying Allcock and Brickford are a retinue of staff officers including Colonel Agnolino de Silva, the Terraversan liaison officer assigned to Allcock's staff, Captain Nardo Bonzi, a militia officer and expert guide. Escorting the force are a strong force of cavalry including a troop of the Corlander 2nd Regiment of Hussars and a troop of elite Terraversan cuirassiers.

Allcock is paying particular attention to ensuring the force's maps are up-to-date and enhanced with local knowledge. The locations of river crossings, seasonal weather patterns. The thirst for knowledge that saw him a founding member of the Royal Society of Natural Philosophy is now applied to his military command. If battle was coming, he was determined that the Corlander force would not be defeated due to a lack of local knowledge.

@evancelt I finally got around to taking a picture of my photography setup - like I said on Flickr, I have mostly (poorly) imitated Jonas Wide/Gideon's setup.

Interesting stream effect - the clear plates fade into the white! Minifigs look awesome. What torsos do the two Terraversans have? Thanks for the process pic!

Wonderful troops and great landscaping. The hussars are great, particularly the small capes and the hats - the golden visors are inspired  - do they stick by themselves, or are you using foul tricks?! :pir-grin:

I am also enjoying these warfare builds - and recon in force is a great aspect to include. Exciting times!

On the officer it is a Bright Light Orange torso (from a Batman CMF I think?) I've stuck a printed paper torso on with a glue stick (for easy removal). The militia officer (who is hidden by Allcock's bulk!) is the same with a white torso and brown print.

Actually by themselves! No foul tricks this build I promise! (well apart from the third party foliage...) They are not my idea - I saw them around somewhere and copied the idea.

Good artists create, great artists steal! :pir-grin: Where are the red shakos from?

Also, I forgot to say the picture is very small - I am certain you are allowed to post them larger (Or I need stronger glasses... :pir-tongue:)

I made the pic a bit bigger - something is weird with the resolution on my display as the figures look a little fuzzy - but when you zoom in of Flickr they are crisp... *shrugs*  Who knows?!

Hey @Ayrlego - Does Allcock have a BrickArms pistol here? Hard to tell from the angle.

What's the white shoulder/belt sash on him? Is it a scabbard with the bottom broken off?

He does!

Unfortunately I only have two white scabbards, so I prioritised the cavalrymen. Usually he wears one of their scabbards! To substitute he has a white rubber band at the moment - but as soon as he can reclaim his scabbard he will!

The rubber band looks good! I like it better than the shoulder satchel bags some use. For the Pamu builds both Spud and Montoya should have brown scabbards, and I only have one! Montoya ended up with a satchel bag. I've picked up a bunch of the white ones to outfit imperial officers and hussars, but the brown one always felt too pirate-y for me :pir-sceptic:

It's heretical I know, but I kind of wish that you could get them on AliExpress... I'd consider a clone part as TLG has only produced them on one figure and BrickLink has none currently in Australia. One German store has an excellent price and a large amount.... but you have to buy them in quantities of 50 and the store has a 100 Euro minimum buy - which is well above my LEGO budget!!!

They have a variant of them on AE - it has a stud on the back though so I wouldn't recommend

I picked a few of those up for my kids - works well for them! I don't like the stud though, as it would protrude from a cape. Could be cool for attaching a tricorn or something. I think they are $2.50 for a pack of 5

Luckily lots of the legit TLG ones in the US

Excellent Scene Ayrlego, The figures and terrain look excellent, and I hope to see them in action!

Well, should diplomacy fail, of course. :pir-grin:

I see here that Allcock is using the newer officer torso. What is his preferred uniform?

Until now he has mainly been seen in his old field jacket (classic redcoat torso), but with elevation to Commander of all Corlander Forces on Terraversa, he decided that he'd better start wearing the more formal Officer jacket (PoTC Officer torso). In my mind (so not by any means official) this is the uniform jacket for all standard regimental officers of Major and above (Brigadier Howe in contrast wears the uniform of the 1st Foot Guards). But Allcock will likely switch back to his field jacket if he goes tramping around the jungle again!! or the world for that matter :)

In sort, if depicting him on Terraversa, I'd prefer the PoTC torso, but don't rush out and get one if you don't have it! The classic torso is just fine!

Sounds good! I've got a bunch of the PoTC officer torso (maybe 6?) as well as a bunch of the Imperial Admiral torso (10?). I've encountered the reality that many other people don't have the Imperial Admiral torso, though, so it's hard to recreate Captain Brickleton for instance! I like to picture officers using the Imperial Admiral torso, but might be prohibitive to others!
