Where can I get real deal on Lego for new sets?

Recommended Posts

I do not mean retired sets, I don't normally get any retired sets unless I really like it because price is my first consideration.

In the past I once got some real deal on Amazon, but it was really "lightning" and the deal ended very quickly and I think I was just lucky. For example I got 31068 in 2018 for $20.9 US dollars. However, it was NOT labelled as "lightning deal" or "Limited time offer" or any other label

In fact, otherwise than Amazon, Walmart and Target where can I get Lego sets for deals sometimes? Please do not recommend BL again and again, I am tired of it. BL may be good

for polybags or parts but they are definitely NOT for sets. Shipping cost can kill you even within the same country.

UK stores (in addition to Amazon) that have sold new sets at 20% or more off in the past year: Smyths, TESCO, Sainsburys, ASDA, The Entertainer, ALDI, Morrisons, Argos, John Lewis, Costco, IWOOT. There are probably more.

Not really, I got 42082 on BL for $210 including shipping (shipping costed $55) and that is still a pretty big saving regardless of how high the shipping cost was by itself.

Go on eBay. I found some good deals on sets such as the 60246 Police Station and the 60258 Tuning Workshop. $100 USD sets I got for only $60 USD each.

I'm not trying to challenge or argue with you but can you just give one example on new or not-yet-retired City or 3in1 sets that they still have competitive price after LOCAL shipping cost within their OWN country? e.g.  item price + local shipping cost = still competitive. You don't need to worry about where I am, UK, USA, Germany, Italy, Australia, no problem.

190 Euro for 60198 from Lego store. 131 Euro (including shipping in Germany) from Bricklink - cheapest seller in Germany. 30% off.

I can order sets from German BL sellers and pay postage to Australia for cheaper than what it would cost to buy it direct from Lego with free shipping.

It is quite easy to search Bricklink to see this for yourself. Just type in the set number and look at the lower prices. Not every set is the same but many are (especially the bigger ones).

There isn’t a LEGO discount specialist store online or off that I’m aware of. So getting good deals will always be somewhat haphazard. You have to hunt around, be patient and allow for the possibility that a particular set may never be discounted.

In the UK, the places already mentioned by @MAB  are all very good suggestions of where to look. Zavvi is also worth a look (currently the Lamborghini Technic set is £100 off there). Note that there is a thread here at EB on UK deals though it isn’t always very active.

One way to be aware of Amazon deals is through Brickset which has an Amazon discount tracker. It tells you what sets have the largest discounts and by how much. There is one for Amazon UK. I believe Brickset covers other countries as well.

It depends also about the country you live in.

By e.g. for me in Belgium best deals are on the german Amazon.
Lego are always cheaper in Germany than Belgium, France or Netherlands and as i have amazon prime working, free delivery too.

Can you recommend (through PM if it is not allowed in public) a few Bricklink sellers or (at least one) who ships from Germany, Australia, UK, USA or Japan

where they sell middle-sized City or Creator 3in1 sets for real deal?

I agree with your example but I do not need 60198

I second Costco.

Every time I see a set there, it's for a crazy good price.

Costco.com? Do they source Lego directly or offer a platform for third-party sellers?

Update: Oh yea just register after searching for Lego this site returns only a few sets and they are all member-only. I can't even see the price. Very unfriendly site. It can never beaten Amazon

True, but they have no big sets...

Sorry, yeah I meant the physical store. Which requires a membership and that isn't free. Not worth it just for the Legos.

This depends a lot on the country you live in. Shipping cost is a huge pain for me even for orders from other EU countries and ordering from outside the EU adds at least VAT and maybe customs fees so even if places like Hong Kong or Russia often have the cheapest selling prices in BL, they are not that cheap when you account for the additional costs of actually importing something.

Often the cheapest sets of BL inside the EU are found in Germany or Hungary, and sometimes they really are less expensive than anything I could find here in Finland (regardless of shipping cost) so it's always worth checking them out. But in my city there is one particular retail store which offers vast majority of in-production sets for significantly cheaper than Lego's own store or other local retailers so usually I just pick up anything I want from them, no need to order stuff online.
