I hate to be that guy, but why is this one of the best DC waves (except for the fact we just haven’t gotten a ton of DC lately). All I’m seeing is three Batman sets that look about as well done as any other sets…

You’ve partially answered your own question, DC offerings have been minimal this year and I’m sure people have been excited for 2022 to pick up the pace. To this wave’s credit, there aren’t any superfluous  builds or ridiculous bat-vehicles this time round, everything is more or less movie accurate based on what we’ve seen from trailers and set photos, even if they’re drab in tone.

Given the evidently low budget Lego assigned this wave (seriously, even the Keaton Batman gets a specialised cowl and he’s only in D2C sets :wall:), I wonder if any other waves will go all out. The Flash film comes to mind, given how grand its scope seems to be.

Interesting reading on Adam Grabowski's designer Bricklist about the new UCS Tumbler:

BRICKLIST NOTES
It was decided to re-release the LEGO Tumbler, and since I made the 2014 one, I was asked to do it again.
Initially it was supposed to be a simple reissue, but I was allowed to change some things that annoyed me for the past 7 years, but only if I would fit it in within a pretty tight schedule (since it was supposed to be a simple reissue, the timeplan wasn’t laid out like it would be for a kit this size). I started with the rear end, in the first version it was way to narrow, and the tractor tyres (which I already keep on getting messages about how they are wrong, but in my opinion look similar enough to boggers that are on the real thing) didn’t exist either, then I pinched the front end to bring the wheels closer together, which led to a complete redesign of the first third of the model, at this point I managed to add the gunners window in the middle, and some suspension details I didn’t even know existed when I was building the first one (thank you @jaylenosgarage for the crystal clear footage during the day).
The rest remained mostly untouched, except for swapping bricks for new versions (like 2x6 tiles instead of 2 times 1x6 tiles), or for more correct colors (like smoke windows), but then, I was quite happy with it in 2014, and I saw no reason to reinvent it from scratch.

Interesting! Still a day 1 buys for me!

Hope we get the Bat next year!

That's really subjective

And I definitely disagree

I’d be curious to know what you’d consider a better wave. I’m not trying to be petty, I’m genuinely curious.

For existing waves it would be the 2015 comic one

Bvs wave was also pretty solid

2012 and 2014 too but it had the advantage of being near the launch of the theme

This wave was even more disappointing because lego refused to make a new cowl mould, and I expected much more from the batman figure and the builds

This is dc's flagship movie...

I don’t think you’re wrong. I think the ears on the old cowl are right but I hate the chinstrap on it so much. It makes the cowl look so much bulkier/boxy. I’m changing the cowl immediately when I grab the new sets.

I think if they created a 3rd cowl, they should merge the two existing one together. The ears of the one shown above but without the strap, I think that might have worked. It all depends if it was in the budget, I have a feeling every new piece seen the sets were designed for other sets first implying there was only enough budget for some new prints. This is all speculation.

Yeah, you both pretty much see the issue with the chinstrap area being the main thing that's holding this cowl back from being a suitable choice.

Same, sadly I went into my dark ages right before that wave came out so now I'm trying to pick up a few of the sets for the minifigures. Just got 76028 (less than MSRP in a sealed damaged box even), and been trying to get a new 76040 without paying too much. Might try and get a few others, see what minifigures I want the most.

I only care about minifigures and comic/animated-based sets so this wave does literally nothing for me. Not a huge Batman fan (minus the OG DCAU version), so all these Batman themed sets don't do much for me either, and the minifigures are useless for building my LEGO DCAU-style collection.

I’m probably in the minority here, but I’m getting quite sick of the batbike-batcar-batcave trifecta they release every year. Every year (no matter what version of batman they do) the vehicles all look relatively similar (with some exceptions) and the bat cave almost always looks the same with some modifications (a center station with two branching off) and I get that it’s easy to sell a bike and a car, and though the bat cave looks relatively different (if only for the train station influence) the set seems like it’s lacking the piece count for such a high price. I get that with movie sets there’s only so much you can do when all you have to work with us concept art and trailer footage, but I feel like Lego has gotten lazy and all of their sets are just copy paste of old sets with minimal changes (which is bound to happen when you cycle through vehicles) but I’m really hoping that the other movies that come out next year (flash, Aquaman, black Adam) can all deliver location based sets or just something that feels new. I feel like the other movies might each only get one set (which is probably going to be more vehicular sets cuz theyre easy and can be lower priced) and Batman always gets the bigger attention cuz Batman sells but I haven’t bought a DC set in probably 3-4 years because nothing has really been worth getting besides a couple new figures here or there. Really hoping that these sets aren’t the best we get cuz honestly that would be pretty disappointing imo.

Good luck to you, my dude. I too was in my “dark ages” when the 2015 wave came out and had to go through finding all those sets without spending a buttload of dough. 76026 was my holy grail that took ages to find at a reasonable price.

I have a question for you all.

If you could choose 5 completely new characters as minifigs which Lego has to make, Who would they be?

Mine would be, The Dark Archer, Heat Wave, King Shark, Kid Flash and Zatanna

I like your choice. Mine would be;

Lady Blackhawk, Hawk and Dove, Dark Archer, Zatanna

As far as The Batman wave is concerned, overall very happy with it. I'll be getting most of the sets day 1, with the exception of the Selina Kyle chase as there are no exclusive characters.

I speculate that part of the reason that the sets in those waves are so expensive is that, because Lego has focused its DC selection so heavily on Batman and friends, DC sets based on other characters are relatively rare. Sadly, it does not look like next year will change that. Don't get me wrong, I am a huge Batman fan, but even I would like to see some novel characters instead of the millionth version of the Riddler.

This is going to sound like a really weird list, but:

Batman Forever Two Face, King Shark, Clooney Batman, Nic Cage Superman, and 92 Catwoman

Thanks! Yeah, I would like to get 76026 for Grodd and Captain Cold. 76034 just for Deathstroke... I spend so much money on DC sets just to get a minifigure or two, but if I bought them separate as single minifigures on Bricklink for the prices they are I may as well just buy the whole set. Lol

Dr. Fate, The Question, Power Girl, Zatanna, any major character from New Genesis

3 more Batman variants/suits (Hellbat, Justice Armour and Batman Beyond) another Killer Moth variant (whatever this is) and Clayface in minifigure form.

Similarly interesting reading on the Woon Tze Che designer Bricklist for the playscale version:

76239-1: Batmobile Tumbler: Scarecrow Showdown

BRICKLIST NOTES

1st October 2021 Release

The Tumbler was my very first MOC back in 2014 so having it as an official product means the world to me. Many of the solutions I came up with as a MOC are not at all suitable for production so I had to completely redesign the model. The design objective for the model is exactly the same as when I first started my MOC:

• It needs to fit 2 minifigures

• It has to be as accurate as possible

It's funny how upon scrutinizing my earlier model, what I used to think was an accurate representation suddenly no longer appear to be so. The front wheels were too small and the sides of the vehicle need to be angled towards the front. The main challenge for the model remained to be building 2 stable front wheels without a central axle. The new Speed Champion chassis provided the stability while allowing space for 2 minifigures and the new 2x6 angled plates helped to angle the side of the car.

The element I originally used for windscreens (part 6070) though looked great, only has 2 studs therefore did not provide the necessary clutch. The end result of 3 windscreens started as a joke from a casual discussion with Mike, imagine our surprise when they actually fit and turns out to be the solution. The wing element (part 61800) on the side of the car is one that I am most happy about, it is almost perfect in size and shape while provided a secure connection. It is extremely satisfying when the element fit perfectly behind the car spoiler used as the side mudguard. The rear of the car is perhaps the part that stayed closest to the original MOC. The end result is a vehicle that replicated the look of the movie design and also one you can play with, rather vigorously if I might add. And yes, it does come in black.

My heartfelt thanks to Jesper Nielsen, Maarten Simons and Mike Psiaki for their help and guidance. It was graphic designer Mark Tranter's idea to include the 2nd head for Batman (which is awesome!), and provided all the cool graphics.

Does anyone know the name of the piece used for the Batmobile windscreen?

The "The Batman" Batmobile? That'd be 6287674: WINDSCREEN 6X6X1 2/3, NO. 1 in official naming, and Bricklink calls it the same (minus "NO. 1").

Hm... i assume it has to be DC when this question is in the DC thread. I'd be in fact very happy with Black mask(using a special mask mould), Mad Hatter and Azrael in a look that matches their appearance in the Arkham videogames.

If I can get variants too, I'd like to get a good Deathstroke using the bald hairpiece with bandana or a new helmet and the Arkham knight with a new helmet mould. It would also be very nice to have Ra'as in his Batman Begins design.

Besides getting real sick of Lego suddenly switching over to the 4+ single hole cape for the main sets, I think I'm going to swap Battinson's cape to the spongy, two holed version instead. Not only is it going to actually look better, but since the material is so thick that it covers the entire neck area, it could kind of work to represent the collar part of the Batsuit (since no piece would actually be able to fit there thanks to the cowl).

Yeah what happened to the nice 3 pack of capes that were introduced in the 2020 Batman sets? Waste of time if they were only going to use them twice, the junior capes are awful big time!

I'm sort of regretting not getting the Mobile Bat-Base set for those 3 cape variants. Then again, the only reason why I would get the Bat-Base is for that Nightwing figure and the capes, so I think I might just have to go Bricklink hunting for all that instead of spending $130 for a useless made up Bat vehicle. I thought those capes were going to be the new standard in future sets and instead, it's devolving.

Yeah, you can BL those cape variants for a reasonable price.

Think I’m going to go with the black cape from the Mandalorian battle pack. I like the narrowness of the cape and the straight bottom seems more accurate to Battinson.

Yup, thankfully they're not super expensive.

Now that you mention it, that one also works really well. If it only had the points/scallops at the bottom of the cape, it'd be perfect.

Side-note, it's a good thing I waited till today to pre-order The Batman sets because nothing beats Double VIP Points. Now instead of getting 1500 points when buying all 4 sets, it's 3000.
