Super Mario 2021 - Rumors & Discussion

Recommended Posts

I'm surprised no one's talked about the new ? block set yet! I picked it up on October 1st and just finished building last night. It's really fun, and I love the amount of details and hidden things they were able to pack into such tiny dioramas of the Mario 64 levels. Definitely in my top three favorite sets of the year.

Of course, I feel like I'm an oddball around these parts. The giant, brick-built Harry Potter and Hermione minifigures were also one of my favorite sets of this year.

Those buildable Harry Potter figures are pretty amazing. I don't like that theme but hope maybe some figs from other themes get that buildable treatment in the future.

I think the main reason not many are discussing the ? Block set here yet is they just haven't gotten the chance to pick it up. I'm hoping to make a Lego store trip later in the month to get ahold of a copy for myself.

Does anybody know when we might start hearing news about the 2022 sets? I remember the first wave of this year's sets (the poison swamp levels) starting to show up shortly ahead of Christmas, so I reckon if they keep a similar launch schedule for next year's sets, it can't be too long until we start seeing what this theme has to offer next.

Just seen Luigi's mansion sets advertised

These look fantastic  I wonder if the Poltergust is also compatible with Mario. And it‘s pretty weird to see them advertised with the regular box design rather than having a specialised Luigi‘s Mansion boxart

These new sets look super fun! I wonder if the poltergust will do anything or if it's just cosmetic.

It‘s connected to a new pair of pants, so there has to be a game function to it :classic:

Nvm, I just saw the box sizes. Probaly something like 15, 20-25 and 70-80?

I was surprised to see set reveals this early, and then I remembered it's Halloween.

But really, these look so cool! I wasn't expecting an entire Luigi's Mansion wave, so this has me hyped. The poltergust looks great, and that larger set captures the mansion look very well. The king boo function looks interesting, reminds me of Storm Beast from bionicle. It's also a decent way to convey how it really works ingame. As for prices, promobricks list euro prices for the three in their article:

I’m not a Luigi’s mansion fan, but these do look interesting. Is this all we’re getting for the January wave of Mario content? Bit strange but interesting enough that I still want it!

I really hope this opens the floodgates for sets that aren’t just based off the various Mario platformers. I’d really love at least one set based on Super Mario Galaxy (don’t mention the bee suit that doesn’t count). Even including Rosalina, hopefully? I’d also kinda love sets based on Mario Party or Mario Odyssey - and how do we not have Mario Kart sets yet?

I read the set descriptions on the press release and this quote peaked my interest: " Press the button to activate the Poltergust"

Button? what button? Then I realized that the "pouch" on the overalls are actually a button built into the piece! But what does it do? Well, looking at my own Luigi figure, the location of the pouch lines up pretty well with where the metal levers are on the Luigi body (the ones used to detect the various suits). This makes me think that the button presses on these to activate the poltergust. If this is the case, then I'm very impressed with the ingenuity of the design. Sadly, I think all this button will do is probably just play sounds rather than actually defeat any of the ghosts, but it's still incredibly inventive.

This a huge surprise! Luigi's Mansion is a series that never seems to get merchandise, I'm guessing the success of the third game has prompted Nintendo to flex the license a little more. Unfortunately it's still a little too interactive for my tastes, but I do think the buildable Professor E. Gadd is adorable. Crossing my fingers for a D2C mansion similar to the Home Alone set or the Joker Mansion from a few years ago.

It makes me wonder how far into the extended Mario franchise this theme will go, since Luigi's Mansion is kind of a deep cut. I could see a stocky Wario figure being the next starter pack.

The Luigi's mansion sets look great! I'm glad to see LEGO branching out with this theme, though I do wish we'd get a Princess Peach already. I wonder if this is the whole January line? It seems like "enough" sets, but will there be a 4th character pack?

Nope, there are still 4 unknown sets:

  • 71396 (€9.99, most likely a new power-up)
  • 71398 (€29.99)
  • 71400 (€59.99)
  • 71402 (€4.99, has to be series 4)

They could also be based on Luigi‘s Mansion, but then they probably would have announced them along with the others :shrug_oh_well: I think regular Mario sets are more likely

Thanks, I hadn't been following this as close as I used to.

Pictures are out!

series 4 has some nice additions. The wallet?frog?, mecha-koopa, purple antguy, the black ball with the bull horns that keeps bumping into you, a goombrat, a ladybug and a bee, a penguin, a scaredy rat and a piece/shard of ice.

two sets are heavily based on water/beach scenes with Dorrie in one, and a big Urchin in the other (and one of the fly-fish you can stand on and a yellow Yoshi)

last set is that flying thing for baby bowser, that can used for mario (or luigi) to stomp enemies, so a different kind of new suit

Series 4 is excellent, definitely one of my favourites thus far  The other sets are cool additions too, especially Dory  And interesting to see that the smallest set isn’t a regular suit, nice change of pace  Hopefully Bowser Jr fits in too

Pretty cool new wave. Wasn't expecting the Luigi's Mansion stuff. But it's kind of nice that it's there and if you don't care for it you have these other sets in the same wave. A theme within a theme. Really liking some of those characters from the packs more than previous waves. The only thing I'd like to point out is how we haven't gotten a second Koopaling in over a year now! I thaught they'd give us 1 or 2 in every wave so you could collect all over time. But it feels like they really want to stretch them out over the course of the line. But if it keeps going on like this with some fun surprises here and there - I'm all for it. Hooray for another awesome wave!

Is Freezie the first character that isn't in a normal Mario game?

He first started in the original Mario Bros says the interwebs. Btw is this the first snowy world white platform, together with the one with the penguin
