Super Mario 2021 - Rumors & Discussion

Recommended Posts

As a stand alone figure I don’t think Luigi works but within this system he looks good. Giving him an unique hat mould is generous! The chin shaping is weirdly shaded within this image, I’m hoping the original figure will be better. The skeleton goomba is a lame inclusion as it just underlines how invaluable those character packs are. XP At least this one has a new walking piece! That’s a very generous inclusion considering this theme is only a year old. Boom Boom confirms we’re getting a Koopa Kid in each of these, but he also reveals we still have 7 to go. He’s probably the least popular Koopa Kid as he and his sister Pom Pom are only late additions, which I believe are less than a decade old. I think he looks quite good, they could’ve easily messed up the fists. Light pink Yoshi is a neat inclusion and makes this set feel a lot more valuable than the last starter set. Lastly large spire with tiered platforms is also a fun addition. The rest of this set is just another Mario stater course and I’m not a big fan of those. They loose their lustre after a few days. XP I don’t think it helps that most people probably have the Mario one too. The medium nougat might be a new biome (mud?) but that’s not going to make up for much. :P

I am curious to see what Luigi means for the other sets. Will the suits be themed for him? This stated course suggests the wave won’t be Luigi themed as there’s no Boos in it. There’s no general theming to it at all so we’re seemingly just going to get a normal wave. Let’s hope it’s revealed soon! I’m sure Amazon wouldn’t have gotten non confidential images too far away from an official announcement?

So based off of the hints and leaks the D2C set is most likely a large build with micro scale Mario figures similar to Hogwarts [...]

Do you mean Bohner_bricks' hints? Not too sure how accurate his info is yet, he first needs to prove himself before I start trusting him, as with any new leaker

I like that Luigi Starter course a lot! I like how it includes the other biomes the Mario one did not, and in fact, it looks like there's a new wood(?) biome that's the nougat color. I also like the large tower, it's interesting to see what it does. I'm also happy to get a new yoshi, and the walking feet look cool too. The fact that this comes out in july is also interesting, so we might see these sets earlier than we thought.

Luigi himself looks to be taller, both in his legs and his head, and it looks like they made his cheeks slimmer too. One thing about the legs, though, is that if they are taller, then none of the power-up packs will work with him. My only disappointment is that nothing on the box shows how he interacts with Mario, but I'm sure it'll be good!

He has proven himself though, he's been right about everything in Marvel. Even so just pretend you believe him and that it's true. Could minifigures be a possibility?

Unless the D2C is another console or includes minifigures, I’ll probably not be too interested.  So to answer your question, I hope!  Every wave has had a set that we predicted  or was rumored to finally have minifigures.  So I’d say the chances are as moderate as ever.

Looking at Luigi and Mario again, I compared the two, and it looks like the trousers for Luigi aren't taller than Mario's, just that they have slimmer feet and longer legs wit a shorter body, so the old power-up suits should still work! I think what they should do is include 2 hats in every power-up pack from now on, one for Mario and one for Luigi, since I don't think the two trousers are distinct enough to justify separate power-up suits.

Theoretically, yes. Regular minifig sets would never have made sense because 99% of the enemies would have required at least one specialised mould each. In contrast, a D2C set with 4-5 minifigs (and 1 new mould each) would be more than feasible I'd say :classic: I'd still take it with a huge grain of salt, because this train of thought will only lead to disappointment

I haven't even seen his cmf list. Like I said just answer the question as if he was right and if he's wrong it doesn't matter. But if he's right and I'll put money on it then we don't have to worry. I know all you do is discredit things but you have called at least 2 leaks fake that ended up being real so idk if we should believe you either

right. Not saying I know it's true but me personally I think it is and really hope it happens

Falconfan: has been a leaker for literal YEARS

Bohner: has been an alleged leaker for two weeks or so

Hm, which one is more believable?

I wonder if the Luigi figure gives us the possibility of Luigi's mansion sets with a similar play pattern/feature...?

I don't think that's particularly likely. Apart from that series being a more distinct spinoff than the mainline "Super Mario Bros." games (much like the Donkey Kong Country or WarioWare spinoffs), the current "digi-fig" design doesn't really have anywhere on the back where you could conceivably attach a Poltergust!

Anyway, I'm excited for the Luigi starter set! Not only is it great to see Luigi, but I'm excited for the pink Yoshi figure—pink Yoshi has been my main in Smash Bros. since Melee!

Well Falconfan didn't discredit what Bohner said about the Mario D2C so I'm not not believing him? I don't know where you got that from. He's just saying that Bohner hasn't been 100% right so far but also Falconfan has been wrong too so...

Also again it was just a hypothetical but yeah let's attack me because Falconfan had a crypic response that says "not his cmf list" which I haven't seen anywhere. Can someone provide a link to his apparent list?

Sorry if I came across as aggressive, that was not supposed to be an attack  I've just seen too many posts trying to discredit our trusted informants lately :snicker: The way I understood FalconFan's post was that he questions Bohner's believability, which I do as well, until we get some further proof (in general I mean). It's just that the amount of would-be leakers has increased in the last 2 years or so, and thus I'm a lot more skeptical towards new leakers than usual

It's weird 'cause the leaked Luigi just looks like Mario dressed as Luigi. Luigi's character does not come through. Slightly changing some limb proportions, his mustache, and hair, but keeping Mario's plump proportions just doesn't work.

I'm guessing they were constrained for some reason. I'm just not 100% impressed.

Right. I get what you’re saying and I’m not saying that his info is true or not. I personally believe it is but everyone else shouldn’t feel obligated to. I’m just contributing to the discussion about the inevitable Mario D2C and how Bohner’s info has given me ideas on what the set could possibly be and what that set could include and want to know some other LEGO minded people’s thoughts.

Probably because they want him to be able to use Mario’s alternate suits. Also I feel like it would look weirder if he was skinny and tall but that’s just my thoughts

Makes sense :classic: Let's suppose we do end up getting minifigs. How would you want TLG to approach them? New hat/hair pieces with regular minifig heads à la Flintstones, or completely moulded heads à la Simpsons? Personally, I'd prefer the latter because removing the noses and changing the eyes just wouldn't work for me :snicker:

Agreed, some of the suits like the penguin one should definitely be designed to be interchangeable between the two figures. Speaking of suits: now that Luigi has been confirmed, I think it's safe to assume that the two upcoming ones will be for him. I'm guessing Fire Luigi and Kitsune Luigi

Luigi set looks fun! Excited to see what else is in store for this line.

My two cents, as someone who's followed LEGO for years now as an AFOL and especially loves all things Nintendo/Mario...I just don't see them ever doing dedicated sets of minifigures as long as the electronic figures/lines are around. A minifig line of sets would end up duplicating lots of what we already have in the current line (and, in order to work with minifigs would require a ton of new molds). I think LEGO made smart choices going with brick-built figures for Mario enemies/allies (except for Luigi now). The line is super charming, though I haven't bought any sets for myself yet (kids love em).

Introducing minifigs right now, even in a D2C, would mean every AFOL conversation about Mario would be, "When are they stopping the electronic figure line and just making minifigs?!?" And I think LEGO has lots of mileage left to get out of the current line.

So, I think a micro-scale D2C is the best choice for LEGO. It's different but won't conflict with the current line. It could appeal to the AFOL crowd by being a bigger/more detailed build.

Legit leak? Who knows yet. But I think an educated guess could arrive at this being the direction LEGO would go. Just my thoughts.

I definitely think molded heads would look better. That’s one of the main turnoffs of the flint stones is the fact that they looks weird without their noses considering they are hyper realistic cartoon characters. Same with Mario and the gang

I definitely see your point and I’m sure that a micro scale D2C of anything Mario would sell well but I hope you’re wrong and they add just a couple mini figs to make it hard to say no to. But your evidence makes me start to lose hope 😂

I'm going to give one of my hottest takes yet: I do not think the Simpsoms heads looked any good, they should've gone with the same designs they had in the Lego episode. I think having Mario as a regular minifig (with a new cap and moustache mould) would look better.

Okay, not "better better", but I always felt like the moulded heads make the minifigs look like any other toy and not like a Lego product, which kinda defeats the point of having Lego Mario.

Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

Just a quick aside, I was curious as to what all the green towers were supposed to be, since it doesn't seem to match any Mario biome that I know, so I decided to do some searching.. and found it's based on this level in Super Mario Bros U! https://www.mariowiki.com/Crushing-Cogs_Tower

Guess who's the boss of that level? Yup, it's Boom Boom. It even has lots of dry bones, and while he isn't included in the set, the bone goomba is. I really like that they kind of recreated a lego version of this level, and I hope we see more of it in the future!

I really would like to see both versions like we have with Simpsons. I see your point though. I feel like some characters have molded heads that definitely don’t need them and makes them look more like a normal action figure... *cough* Tusken Raider *cough* but for me Mario could go either way just because of how weird his head shape is.
