How to use BrickTracks / HABricks train axles and ball bearings?

Recommended Posts

I'd like to add better axles to some of my coaches. BrickTracks and HABricks offer wheels, axles and technic bricks with ball bearings.

I'm now wondering how they are meant to be used. There are no instructions on the product pages. Can I use them with the new Lego train wheel holders or do I have to build new bogies?

The problem I see with the train wheel holder is that I cannot put the technic bricks with the ball bearings at a distance of two studs, so there will be some lateral movement of the wheels and fiction between the side of the wheels and the wheel holders.

The ball bearing element use is best described in this forum:

As you can see, the ball bearings are placed inside technic bricks. The regular train wheel holders aren't used. Most people then build the rest of the bogie (train wheel holder) from scratch to make it look like a specific type for their use.

Hi @legotownlinz, they are not compatible with the new wheel frames, but are with the older ones.  However, most builders are taking the ball bearing approach.  What is typically done is you press the bearing into a technic brick (typically a 1x2 with either 1 or 2 holes depending on how you need to space the wheels), and then you can assembly the wheels and axles to these. Most builders using these wheels aren't using the normal wheel frames and prefer to build their own trucks from scratch.
