I'm kinda over the attitude that gears are necessary for a set to be worth it. 42101 was an amazing little set. I wanna see more clever linkages, shorter ball socket arms and special parts in small sets

Yep, 42101 is great for its size and included only one gear as a steering knob.

Gears don't make a good Technic set, interesting and clever functions that work well and are packed into a small space make a good Technic set.

42101 is indeed a cool set. The B-model is good as well; the jack is a great play feature.

As a student with basically no budget for LEGO, I'm always interested in the small sets - especially when they contain parts normally only found in larger sets, like the clamshell bucket used here. I'm also very happy that this set can tilt the bucket "remotely", rather than a lever at the bucket itself.

My only concern is that the curved base of said bucket will make actually scooping up loose material incredibly difficult - I think loaders normally have buckets with flat bases.

I think it'll work okay so long as the bucket is kept level.

It's based on the JCB 260, which has one arm. I think it's quite efficient as it enables the operator to get in and out more easily.

It's a very good set, but it's doubtful that people will choose it over 42102...

And by the way, 3 stars for Sariel's review wouldn't be considered as a bad score.

While efficient and accurate, I believe both the looks and functions would improve if it had another arm. Anyway, you can't expect too much from a $10 set...

I tried double arm design - it tends to struck more agaisnt connector #4 on the roof, than one armed one.

That's because it's the JCB colour scheme.

Black and yellow version looks great, but the pins would look a bit weird and I guess that's part of the reason why it doesn't include yellow parts...

I was aware that putting in the black panels would give colour scheme similar to the JCB above. Perhaps a few more pieces need to be put in black (cabin + towards the back). But I wanted it more 'friendly', e.g. bright.
I have most of the available parts in Bright Light Orange - but some just haven't been made.

Not quite black (*) but much darker: Forklift version

*) My black #21 & #22 panels are either in the Osprey or carry stickers.

Here's my video about both the A & B models. Fun fact (besides the somewhat unnecessary but still present black bush) :

The B model uses 2 LBG frictionless pins but the A model only has one, so the second one comes from the spares. I can't recall any other Technic set where the B model used the spare pieces.
